Yup... looks like Comcast may be history as far as I'm concerned. ATT Uverse is now finally available in my neighborhood I put my order in yesterday and they should be hooking me up on the 18th!
Being an apartment dweller I've not had any other options until now. I have been so fed up with the customer dis-service as well as the lack of concern when it comes to securing connections from tampering. I have lost my cable service on numerous occasions due to other residents wanting to watch "the game for free" by stealing my feed and sending into their apartment.
If nothing else at least with ATT I won't have the theft issue as I have NEVER had any one unhook my phone to steal my service! Equipment is more secure and the connections aren't obviously marked!

I've heard people on the East coast have really liked that service. My boyfriend & I gave Charter the heave-ho over a year ago. Once they lost the NFL Network (& seem to have no intention to get it again), we went to DirecTV & haven't looked back since.
I hope your experiences are a lot better without the cable!

It can't get any worse. I have NEVER had a bad experience with ATT with phone service. With Comcast, I think a rank bunch of amateurs could do better than those on the payroll! I believe the JD Powers survey that Comcast has one of the five worst customer service ratings!

UPDATE!!!!
Uverse is up and running all I can say is WOW! Comcast is very much history. Picture and sound quality is MUCH better than Comcast digital service. Note I am not using HD at this time as I don't have an HD set and I am watching on a 27 Inch GE crt set circa 1988.
Picture is sharper, no noise or graininess is present, color is pure and vibrant, digital audio is cleaner than Comcast without the noise or raspiness, stereo separation sounds better. These observations are just using my senses, no instrumention.
The package I have gives me MUCH MORE bang for the buck for than the equivalent Comcast offering, PLUS my price INCLUDES 3.0down and 1.0up Internet service, that is not included with Comcast.
Since my hook up on Tuesday I have experienced no glitches other than typical in any digital signal from time to time.
There was only one issue that I could find and again it is something common in digital video. When you have a picture with a moving background, and a moving foreground, sometimes pixelation occurs. Other than that WOW!!!
If you are interested in more info on ATT Uverse there is a user group site at
www.uverseusers.com
You'll find much info with members made up of users, ATT tech people, I also think I saw some TV people as well as Home theater techs. This site IS NOT an Official ATT, but they do take interest in it and their people do frequent the boards.

I don't know here lately I've been peaking nearly 1mb/s dl's and averaging almost 700kbs with my new pc. And I'm with Comcast.

I never attempted Comcast as an ISP as they were absolutely totally clueless, hemmed and hawwed about dealing with a Linux machine in the mix when it came to setting up an install. So I never did it.

It's about damn time Comcast got some competition in the broadband market. They've been soaking subscribers for years. Cost keeps going up and quality keeps tanking.

Well it been a month since I "cut the cable" and switched to ATT's Uverse.
I think it's the best decision I could have made. To me everything was as advertised.
As expected there have been some minor glitches the worst was not with ATT itself but with ATT receiving local tv WTHR due to some encoding and converting issues as WTHR originates its programming in 1080i.
The only thing I had to find out for myself is that using AV connections between components gives the best audio and video for my set up. I use no RF connections its either AV between components or CAT5 cable to move the signal between the gateway and the receivers and computers.
The only thing I can say that I don't like is that they have URGE instead of Music Choice for musical entertainment.
Urge in case you don't know, is an MTV product. I'm not thrilled with the programming nor how the music is categorized in the genres offered. Technically Urge sounds very thin and harsh, like bad mp3s instead of AAC or WAV like Music Choice.
By far Uverse exceeds anything that local cable could offer for the price.
I should note that I'm not watching in HighDef so I can't say how HD stacks up. My main tv is a 27inch GE circa 1988 and with Uverse as compared to Comcast digital, the picture "pops" , sharp, clear, vibrant.
I'm on Comcast and agree, they really don't seem to care. One person tells you one thing another one something else. That said, my most recent bandwidth tests showed 6.5Mb download 2.2 Upload, repeated for a couple of days with about the same speeds.
