So how can you make it so these mirriors don't break?? I've heard many stories of these things breaking all the time.

I want to by some scanners, but I don't want them to break. Any advise besides being careful?

Well, you hit the obvious nail on the head. Be careful. I think there are lots of people who have had scanners for YEARS and never broken a mirror, but it does only take a second of bad fortune to break one. Just be mindful of placement and transportation. Cases are a surefire way to protect them during transport. Some people don't like the price of a good case... so the alternative is accepting the risk.

I'm trying to think of scanners that have proctective covers.

I use the old DJ Scan 250. They work great and they have a protective cover that protects the mirror.

I think some other people will be able to comment which scanners have a screw on protective plate for the morror.

Tyrone has 10 DJ Scan 250's for sale at a great price.

We've had scanners for years and not yet broken a mirror. Good road cases are priceless! And, yes, being careful is a necessity.

Ditto what Val said - I've had my Mx-4's for close to 7 years now, and only had one mishap with one of the mirrors. I need to call Martin and get it replaced. Protective cases are priceless. I had mine made for me by the guys where I purchase equipment. They took some SKB molded generic cases, and lined them with form fitting gray rubber foam. I'll try and get a couple pics soon and post them.

I bought my DJ Scan 250s used for next to nothing. One had a broken mirror when I got it so I took what was left of the brocken mirror and a good one to a local glass shop. They custom cut the little oval shaped mirror and adhered it to the bracket for less than $10.

If it were a higher end scanner (Martin, Robe, etc.) I would have spent the money and ordered the correct mirror, but for a $200 fixture? Bah!!! ;)
