Hello everyone.
After much thought, I've decided to purchase Bricks 1, 2, and 3 as well as the "Mortar" package (12 spotlight CD+Gs).
Does anyone have Foundation 1 and Foundation 2 and possibly Bricks 1-3........on a combined Database (an .xls file)? Just having the 2 Foundations would be a great time saver (currently I have my Karaoke library on 2 different lists, provided by SC with the Foundation sets).
If so, in exchange for this database---I'd be willing to part with my copy of either:
1) Joel Whitburn presents the Billboard Book Of Hot 100 Singles (HARDCOVER)
OR
2) Joel Whitburn presents the Billboard Pop Singles Annual (HARDCOVER).
I'm going to be replacing one or both books with the newest editions, so I can offer either of these $90 hardcover books in trade.
Randy from Sound Waves Karaoke in RI saw my message on the Sound Choice board, and he e-mailed me the xls files for F-1 and F-2.
The Billboard Hot 100 Singles hardcover book was mailed yesterday!
DJ Gray 12-20-2007, 06:08 PM Why not download Titles from Program such as Song List Generator, and save as .xls files then clean up, format and print with Excel.
If its the Titles, Disc #, Artist and Track # that you are looking for....or have I misunderstood the question?
It was easier just to get someone else's Excel file, rather than try to re-invent the wheel.
Using the other KJ's database saved me about 30 hours of work.
DJ Cam 12-23-2007, 04:11 PM You can purchase a great piece of software KJPro. It makes karoke book making very simple.
But being you use a very small library and do not add 4 to 5 cd's a month, I guess using excel is free and not too hard to use.
DJ Cam 12-23-2007, 04:11 PM Dupe post site is slow this afternoon.
kayleigh 12-26-2007, 11:08 PM I have Bricks 1-5 - are you getting all the original disks or the newer ones in the Bricks? You can tell by the disk's look (it's a little different) and they end in "S" (like 7535S). Let me know; I can PM an Excel file for ya.

I noticed some changes between what is listed on SC web site VS. what I actually typed into my Excel file.
For example, on Brick 3, after going thru every disc, song by song......I've found that "YSMANL" is missing, so is "Authority Song"......2 other songs were replaced. (4 songs total).
Now I'm going thru Bricks 1 and 2 and will see how many have changed on those (???)
kayleigh 12-26-2007, 11:47 PM Yep - SC lost some licensing on a few songs, but were able to negotiate the disks to keep most of the songs. I ran into that on my Bricks 4 & 5. I can get you my XL file with all the disks & any new ones when I get home from work, if you still need any of them.
I did my analysis, and overall there was a "Trade-Off" with a lot of really great songs that were substituted for the missing trax on the original bricks
Here were 5 that I said I must have,
"Wicked Game" (Chris Isaak)
"The Tide Is High" (Blondie)
"December 1963 (Oh What A night) (4 Seasons)
"My Sharona" (The Knack)
"We Are The Champions" (Queen)
there were 4-5 other songs but nothing I really wanted to have.
(Remember, they swapped out the new bricks for some really awesome songs, like "Purple Rain," "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac, "Dancing Queen", "Dream On", "Jammin'" by marley, "I Shot The Sherriff" by Clapton)
After speaking with the SC rep, it looks like they might be able to get those 5 missing songs to me after all....on a custom CDG. That's why SC rocks, because they take care of their customers.
Update: The SC discs arrived today!!!
One of them was the 10-song custom disc from Australia, the one that got sent to the wrong city (the zip code was correct).
the other one was a 5-song disc with the ones listed (above).
Chris, the SC rep who took care of me.......was great.
I highly recommend them, and will continue to purchase ONLY SC's products in the future.

Your loss. Of the songs you needed, better versions are on All Hits and SuperCore. As for the custom disc- surprise! Not licensed. But also not your problem. It's SC's
Jon Tuck 01-10-2008, 03:25 AM for a random Wedding, or Karaoke add on, Supercore has a very good set for anyone to enjoy. The quality is often equal or better than SC in my Hosting opinion.
jclaydon 01-24-2008, 08:54 PM Does anyone have a full list of which songs were replaced? I've been saving up to buy a couple of bricks at a time. Not really interested in the foundation series cause i have most of those songs already.
There are a couple that I really must have and won't be worth it to me if they aren't in the new sets..
thanks in advance,
-James

SC pulls songs they no longer have licenses for - even from their custom disk list. So they are licensed for karaoke performance.
There is sometimes a lag in updating their list, but they will notify you if you select a non-licensed song & give you the option of replacing it. (I know this first-hand - it happened to me once.)

"Jammin'" by Bob Marley is on my brand new Brick 2 (its on 7546S, track 3)
but the rest of your listings appear to be accurate.

I must have read something wrong then.... sorry. I got Bricks 1 & 2 before they discontinued that disk, so I was going with what SC reported on their web site for the track listing. :D
For 3, 4 & 5 I looked at the "classic" listings in my database software & compared it to my disks.

If that's the case, then why bother to remove the song from the set in the first place?

kayleigh 02-01-2008, 11:07 PM The laws changed in the early 2000's for song licensing; manufacturers need a sync license as well as the mechanical performance license for karaoke CDGs. (This was just reaffirmed in court on 1/3/08: http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3i00f47eff777c905c152c0f37018a0d73 )
I think artists/songwriters have to give their OK for the sync licensing, where mechanical license permissions are usually granted by just the publisher (a.k.a. the legal owner of the song). For instance, I know Prince has pulled EVERYTHING by him from the karaoke market. I think Madonna is following suit now that she's signed her distribution deal with Live Nation.
Maybe some artists might allow their songs to be distributed for karaoke as long as they're paid for every copy that gets distributed; others might charge a flat fee for x number of years with the option to extend or re-negotiate a contract. (It seems to me that somewhere in the recesses of the SC Forums, one of the SC employees sort of gave a real brief 40,000-foot view about licensing pitfalls... I'll see if I can find it.)
So, the upshot is that if an artist, publisher, whomever wants to be paid per manufactured copy, it'd be easier (and cheaper) to pull it from a mainstream-manufactured disk & make it available for custom disk manufacturing only. That way, SC is only paying for the one copy that's a guaranteed sale rather than 10,000 copies that may sit on a shelf.
Toq was at NAMM and may have gotten more insight & more accurate info than I have.
If what Kayleigh says (above) is true.........this means there is a very short window to buy SC discs before they go "poof" forever!
toqer 02-04-2008, 04:53 PM Completely accurate kay!
I got a thing or two to add though.
I think artists/songwriters have to give their OK for the sync licensing,
Not only that, there's no set rate for sync licensing. So an artist with a hair up thier ass might decide, "Oh, I want $1,000,000 per copy!". With Mechanical licensing (i.e. no graphics) the rate was set by congress as $0.025 per copy. This is why MMO is building a huge library of thier JT disks (just tracks) It's also why you see everyone selling non-CDG music on Amazon, Yahoo, Napster, Itunes, etc.
