A bit of expertise, Toq? Joker? Anyone?

I've got about 30 Sound Choice and other DVDs that I would like to convert to CDG. Any software out there easy and cheap enough to make it worthwhile? Or for that matter, is it do-able with standard Windows media software? I've been using them as is on my pro equipment, but would like to screw with them at home on my Duet pop-top, which, though a terrific practice machine, doesn't read DVD. Any help?

Your best bet would be to convert to either mpg or avi either can be played by winamp.... and Autokdj

#1 DVD ripper comes to mind

egads RTFQ...

Ok what is a Duet Pop-top? is that a regular uhmmm toy CDG player? If so unless it can do VCD that would be the only other way.

I know of no program that will convert DVD to CDG Only to vob, mpg, divx, or avi ... of those mpg and avi both play in winamp as video.

This player is CDG only. It's a home toy, but probably one of the best out there. I actually ran a home party off of it when the power went out. Just plugged it into a Sears 1150 power source with a monitor.

The duet is an all in one that went for about 400 bucks, though now I see them on line for as little as 285. Two 45 watt speakers, digital key control ( rare on a home machine 4 years ago), Dual mic controls, music to vocal balance, digital echo, master volume, separate mic volume ( two inputs), Double dubbing cassettes with internal recording for performances and a headphone monitor, 5 band EQ, and AM FM stereo. It's a pop-up, but for playing in my office, you can't beat it. I would never use VocoPro for professional purposes, but that's a honey of a practice machine.

Anyway, some of the DVD tracks are no longer available in ANY form since SC and some others had licensing problems. One of my favorites was Spiderman. Not the Hero theme, the original. The SC music was HOT. No longer available ( SC8438 ) on CDG. Or Grandpa Got Run Over By A John Deere from Top Tunes ( TU066) - out of business. I need actual CDGs....I actuall HAD these two in CDG.....someplace in my personal ( non- hosting) collection, but I bought a new house a few years ago and can't find .....stuff

I see...

Yeah in that case I doubt you'll find an easy way to do it...

You could extract just the audio to mp3 then create your own graphics sync'd to the music then burn to CDG with Power CDG Burner or like program...

Does the machine have an auxilery audio or if your lucky also video IN?

A simple option would be to play the DVD from a laptop into the CDG player...

Unless toqer know's of a way but I'm almost positive your only option to actually have a CDG disc would be to sync your own graphics to a mp3 audio file.

Of course I could be wrong... you know who might be able to answer this with certainty doesn't post here... checkout www.kjamp.com Frank the maker of Roxbox would know.

Hey Joe,

I just posted this question to Frank at Roxbox... if anyone knows he'd know.... I'll bet that because nobody has really been concerned with the DVD's since they were a limited run anyway that no one has developed a rip method to extract a mp3 and cdg file from them since dvd's are different than the cdg's... in that they are true video's and not an audio cd with an underlying data file.

Escencially that is what a CDG disc is... a CDDA with a Data file... I forget the science that goes into it but in a nutshell that's it.

I know what you're trying to do joe.

It's a PITA. Honestly, you're better off ripping to the PC and playing from there than trying to attempt a dvd to CDG conversion.

There's going to be a few factors in your quest that are going to hinder you. If the DVD has a ton of animation, like higher than a CDG or if it has background video, it's going to come out terrible.

get Frank from Roxbox over here guys hes a good addition we could enjoy having. The KAraoke portion of ODJT has become very active comparing to the other DJ forums. Hell even Weed posts here occasionally.

I already posted this question... on Franks board... however, I've rarely seen him post elsewhere... he is way busy with Kjamp and Roxbox...

Now if we could get toqer and frank together... (insert evil laugh here)

Frank just confirmed what I posted earlier... since it is a DVD it is basically a movie and conversion to CDG isn't possible but, you can convert to mpg, vob, avi, divix and play on most any software.... sorry joe you'll have to use your computer for this.

Also I posted an invite to any of the KJs including Frank to come join us.
