My friend and I were discussing excursion the other day and why car subwoofers are designed for massive excursion while subwoofers designed for live audio aren't so much. Any reason for this?

great question Roffy as I wondered why my liver was about to shoot out the side of my body when Boomer cars go by. Rarely experienced anything close to it in a DJ sub.

The longer excursion design is for SPL in an automobile. The drivers are fed with massive amounts of amp headroom. A car is not a tuned enclosure. :)

In the case of prosound cabs, you have tuned enclosures that take resonance into account.
