CoolVnyl 12-18-2007, 04:16 PM Hello Everyone & Anyone Who Has "KJ" Experience,
I'm new to the field, as well DJ Chat Board. I am currently in the DJ field and have been since "86". I want a change of course, but remain in the field of music which I love so dearly.
I have tons of questions (for anyone who would want to walk me through this area), so anyone who's willing to help me/guide me, would greatly be appreciated. I'm looking to install the process onto a laptop, and I'm also getting an external hard drive to store all of my mp3's and CDG's. This way, I'll have both access to either music for private gigs.
So please be patient with me, as I do lots of research also with any advice given. I like to read Pro's & Con's of anything suggested. (Sorry, just have to know the facts of the product)
So anyone who's willing to lead the blind, please reply and I'm hoping to truly have something developed by April, to change my field over to the karaoke side. I do have many years of experience with vinyl in clubs, private parties and sound tracking. I just want to sing. Also, I want to know how many different tracks that are offered to karaoke to offer a selection when music is requested.
Thanks again, in advance for your/any help or suggestions.
Carolyn 12-18-2007, 09:17 PM Hi CoolVnyl!
Welcome! I am currently CDG based with my karaoke shows however, have been looking at converting for quite some time. However, I would like to take your post and make it a new thread if that is ok with you, so it will draw more attenion. We have some great guys here who would be more than willing to help. Toqer and Jokerswild both have lots of experience with this.

CoolVnyl: You have come to the right place many of us will have great suggestions for you. Karaoke is one of those nitch markets that are both fun and entertaining, but also one of the most difficult to market outside of the bar and club scene.
That said welcome aboard. Are you ready for the ride of your life?
There is tons of great information as well as not-so great information about where to start and how to get it done.
From your post I see you plan on loading your karaoke library to a computer. This is a fine way to go and there are plenty of programs to choose from for playback. AutOKdj (my personal favorite), RoxBox, S&D, Compuhost, MTU Hoster and too many more to name...
Without knowing more about what you have and don't have it will be hard to give advice. Can you detail what you have and the direction you are wanting to take with this endevor?
toqer 12-19-2007, 12:29 AM I can give you the greatest help considering you're in San Jose.
I work at the 7 Bamboo. I'm one of the autokdj developers. As long as you're willing to do everything above board (no piracy) I can teach you everything you need to replicate our setup.
PS: Carolyn, if this guy wants to do it right, i'll tape it all and make some content for odjt. Me babbling on goes over folks heads sometimes, so maybe it'd be nice if I had video where someone is asking questions that I might not think about.
Jon Tuck 12-19-2007, 01:14 AM OF course we will also like to have you look through Joe Chartreuse's threads as he is a great asset here in this area as well. Heck look at any member who is active in the KAraoke Forum they all have years of great info.

Hey toqer I PM'd him and told him to contact you before you even posted this... expect to hear from him.

Appreciate the kudos Jon. However, if he's going PC, his computer info comes best from Toq and Joker. When and if he has questions on other areas of karaoke, believe me, I'll throw in my 2 cents...:sqlaugh:
