I'm looking for one of those slim ultra thin cameras that takes good "in the dark shots". Also large preview screen, image stablization, adequate megapixels and optical zoom. If the camera has a remote, that's even better. Looking to spend somewhere in the $250. range. Thanks

Would a decent sized security observation camera do a good job?
Alternatively... I would also recommend the Sony EVI-D70s PTZ but most retail places I have scoped out charge a butt load!

I have done some research on this subject because I am looking for a sub-compact digital camera. Here are a couple research sites:

If you are looking for the best low light performer in a compact, well its the Fujifilm 31fd. However, its an older model and you cant find them anymore. I am going to go with the Canon SD870IS.
Why? Effective Image stabilization, huge 3in screen. wider angle lens that most in its class (28mm at wide angle) VERY FAST, and has gotten great reviews across the board. You can get this unit for around $300.
Here are a few others I was looking at:
Fujifilm F50
Sony T100
Sony T200
Canon SD850IS
Good Luck,

hey Brian,
I just found a site that talks specifically about the Fuji 41d or something like that. It specifically mentions how well it performs in low light. (Maybe a little better than me!)

I just bought a Fuji S700 large body for $150 shipped used off ebay.

Yea, its the 31fd. Its because of the high ISO's it can handle. However, its not available "new" anymore. Its also only 6 mega pixels.
If you're not concerned about size so much, I would take a good look at the
Canon A560
Canon A710/A720
These both use AA batteries.

Be forewarned, high ISOs usually equal high noise (grain).

I wanted to get this over with so bad, I went to Circuit City last night and bought a Canon Powershot SD 750. It is a compact/slim model about the size of a cigarette pack. It's a Christmas present for my daughter, and if she doesn't want it, it can be returned. Hope I made the right decision.
