To Clip Or Not To Clip

Getting ready to use Macmp3 Gain set at 93 dB and I am just wondering, do I set it to allow clipping or not? I always thought clipping was a bad thing.

Just Curious.

Thanks in advance,

Frank

Yes clipping is a bad thing... to be avoided at all costs.

If that program is anything like MP3Gain then don't allow clipping.

I use 95dB with MP3Gain and it provides perfect output to my mixer.

Hey Frank,

I'm very familiar with the Windows version of MP3Gain, and may actually integrate it into future versions of our software.

Since I haven't tried the Mac version, but the code is basically the same, here's what I suggest:

Take a selection of about 5 songs, which came from different CDs, and gain them using various options, and find the set that works best for your system.

It's very subjective on the part of the listener, so I find it best to take a couple hours, and do a real world test that best suits your needs...

Thanks for the advice so far everybody.

Rick, I plan on doing that, was just curiou about the clipping.

I am using the Cortex HDC 1000 for playback.

Thanks Everybody

Frank

PS: For those of you who are far more tech savvy than I, here is the link to the mac version.

Back to the ripping I must go.

It's not my software, but, I could be honest and tell you it doesn't really matter :sqwink:

It's a decent piece of software, but it does have its limits, like all software. I've spent hours pouring over their code, and I don't see much difference whether clipping is on or off...

If you clip the top of a tree, it still grows, just in different directions -- if you get my drift... :sqwink:

Do you have any Mac software, because I would be more than happy to use it. I believe in supporting the folks that support the industry.

Thanks for the input.
