Kirby Ball 12-28-2007, 01:04 AM Based on our requests lately:
Trace Adkins
Kenny Chesney
Toby Keith
George Strait
Brad Paisley
Gretchen Wilson
Tim McGraw
Carrie Underwood
Brad Paisley
(I know, that's more than 3! :sqwink:)
Papa Deuce 12-28-2007, 01:14 AM Eh, Looking at your list, I forgot Tim McGraw... he probably takes over Kenny Chesney.
patrickrlewis 12-28-2007, 01:36 AM Eh, Looking at your list, I forgot Tim McGraw... he probably takes over Kenny Chesney.
Actually, based on the numbers, Chesney is over McGraw:
http://pollstar.com/news/viewnews.pl?NewsID=9020
I think in from a pure popularity standpoint, it would be:
1. Carrie Underwood (number 1 on the hotness factor too :sqwink:)
2. Kenny Chesney
3. Brad Paisley
Karl Langford 12-28-2007, 12:08 PM I know you said artists but if groups were there you would have to say Rascal Flatts would be #1 over all.
SoftJock Rick 12-28-2007, 01:32 PM Brad
Kenny
Strait
Y'all know I'm a big country fan, but I've been so busy, I haven't been able to keep as up to date as I would like, so just an observation.
I will say that, Brad is probably the most talented individual on the country scene, since Roy Clark :)
Most of the "big" names these days, are just singers though...
In Your Opinion...... who are they?
1. Carrie Underwood
2. Toby Keith
3. Kenny Chesney??????? 3rd one is a hard call for me.
2/3 aint bad,
my list is:
1) Carrie Underwood
2) Kenny Chesney (Don't Blink Papa....yer twins will be graduating from HS sooner than ya think........)
3) RASCALL FLATTS. (mainly because "BBR" is the most consistently floor-packing song of the last 2 years)
Honorable mention to:
Gretchen Wilson
Big N' Rich
thatmusicguy 12-28-2007, 01:44 PM Keith Urban
Sugarland
Brad Paisley
Jon Tuck 12-28-2007, 06:31 PM I agree with that music guy minus Sugarland as I would replace them with Kenny Chesney.
Fred Stewart 12-29-2007, 02:30 AM Well... Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood are hot as far as Clear Channel is concerned, lol.
Kirby's right. Trace Adkins has always been hot for mobile (read requests). :)
Kirby Ball 12-29-2007, 02:34 AM Requests for Rascal Flatts have been falling off lately, that's why I failed to add them to my list of most requested Country artists.
Jon Tuck 12-29-2007, 06:06 AM Actually forgot an up and comer
Faber Drive
Bill Hollick 12-29-2007, 08:21 AM Actually forgot an up and comer

I thought we were talking about top Country music artists. :sqconfused:
My list is G. Strait, K. Chesney, T. McGraw.
Honorable Mention - Toby Keith.
Jon Tuck 12-29-2007, 03:42 PM But can you safely say Tim McGraw is in the top 3 at this moment and trust me he is one of my favorites but I cant say hes leading the charts over several others who are leading the way. I just shamelessly plugged Faber since others had posted groups and so I mentioned them. I did get the question and answered appropriate in my first post.
sparkieg 12-30-2007, 02:50 PM Gotta agree with Rick - Right now, Brad Paisley & Kenny Chesney seem to be the clear cut favorites across the country according to radio station airplay and as fan favorites for live shows - Toby is making lots of noise with his recent albums and live shows as well, not to mention his endorsement deal with Ford Trucks.
Now, on the income scale - none of them come close to George Strait. At last count, Strait was worth some staggering numbers - only because of his ownership stake in cowboy attire and apparel, livestock and horses, real estate holdings, etc.
Even though Kenny holds the title for most recent successful money making tours, it's considered a drop in the bucket compared to George's wealth.
Not that this is surprising, but according to sources within the music industry, Dolly Parton's wealth is pretty staggering as well - last count had her worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 million.
Just my thoughts.......
Fred Stewart 12-30-2007, 04:25 PM If memory serves, Dolly Parton owns a theme park in Tennessee called Dollywood. She is extremely wealthy due in most part to sound financial planning and investments.
George Strait has been a Country music staple for many years. He still makes records and tours for the love of it... it's not all about making money. :)
Precisionpower 12-30-2007, 09:44 PM My top three requested country artists???
1. Charlie Daniels
2. Hank Williams
3. Merel Haggart
Up here in Wisconsin, The heavy German & Irish populations just LOVE
there good ol' beer drinkin country music!!
Played "Thinkin' problem" by David Ball last night, they went nuts!!!
(Of corse they change the words to DRINKIN' PROBLEM)
"The Rodeo Song" "I-95 a-hole song" "Family Tradition" "Jose Cuervo"
"Who's Cheatin Who"
All heavily requested by regulars.
Fred Stewart 12-30-2007, 10:00 PM Jose Cuervo... I sure remember that. Got a dance mix version from the '90s but haven't played it in years.
Thinkin' Problem was a standard. Gosh, I miss those days. Y'know... David Ball's When The Thought Of You from the same album was the big one for a buckle polisher. Got lotsa calls for Trace Adkins, too.
That's my kinda show. :)
Precisionpower 12-30-2007, 10:50 PM Me too Fred!
I love those shows too.
You could see the look in people's faces when the twangy "Yes i admit"
Hit the speakers..................
Damn....i havent heard this in years!!!!
Hopefully none of the other bar DJ's around here see my show.........
sparkieg 12-30-2007, 11:53 PM Dang Fred........yer makin' me misty eyed thinkin' of my early days in small market radio...........
Fred Stewart 12-31-2007, 01:01 AM Well, it's true.
When I lived in the hill country of VA, there was a small market, local FM station that played a lot of Bluegrass and contemporary Country tunes. On Sunday mornings, they did a show called Stained Glass Bluegrass ~ old gospel songs from the Bluegrass artists. This music is beautiful and comforting.
The station was quite popular in the area and I got a lot of tips on what to play at the shows I did in them days. I'd have never played Ricky Skaggs' I Wouldn't Change You If I Could to the delight of a client had it not been for hearing him on the radio.
Thanks to Precision, I've got the old David Ball comp CD on. ;) Next up: Ricky Skaggs. Then it's Ronnie Milsap ~ Smoky Mountain Rain :)
These songs take me back to a time when DJing was still fun and people came out to the dances. They called ya back to play every year. A time when people filled the dancefloors to a buckle polisher. A time when old Duck would call the figures on the mic and we had round dancing.
A time when folks at the street festivals would stop and dance right there in the street to songs they loved.
A time when the ladies would dress up in short skirts and the guys wore bluejeans and boot scootin' boots. They'd line dance to a two-stepper or swing without needing no dance instructor. They had their own music on CD to perform to. It was Indie stuff ~ ya won't find it at Amazon.
A time when you could throw on some hip hop or old James Brown funk and they'd all git down on the floor.
It was a time when people still remembered how to have fun.
I miss those nights and wonder what the heck happened to 'em. :)
Off somewhere the music's playin' soft and low
And another holds the one that I love so
I was blind, I could not see that you meant the world to me
But like a fool I stood and watched you go
Now I'm crying my heart out over you
Those blue eyes now they smile at someone new
Ever since you went away I die a little more each day
Cause I'm crying my heart out over you
(steel guitar and fiddle)
Each night I climb the stairs up to my room
It seems I hear you whisper in the gloom
I miss your picture on the wall and your footsteps in the hall
While I'm crying my heart out over you
Now I'm crying my heart out over you
Those blue eyes now they smile at someone new
Ever since you went away I die a little more each day
Cause I'm crying my eyes out over you
sparkieg 12-31-2007, 02:32 AM You're not the only one that misses those days Fred...........those were good times...the sawdust on the floor for the dancers....longneck bottles for a buck....guys wearin' the long sleeve shirts, Stetsons and the big belt buckles even in the dead of summer.....Gene Watson croonin'.........
Damn I'm showin' my age..........
Fred Stewart 12-31-2007, 07:51 PM I'll share a recent development with local radio:
Two local FM stations, both owned by Clear Channel Delaware have swapped formats. One is a classic rock station, the other is Country.
Before the swap, the classic rock station at 94.7 had the higher power licence. The Country station at 92.5 had a lower power licence. I got up one afternoon to find classic rock playing on my radio. Presently, an announcement was made... something about if you're looking for Country, tune to 94.7.
Shirl checked out the Country station's website to find out what was goin' on. Apparently, the format swap was done due to the Country station's popularity over the classic rock. Listeners had been telling the station owners that they couldn't receive the Country station on the fringe. So the Country format was moved to the higher power station. The classic rock format was moved to the lower power station.
Even with the prepackaged CC crapola... NASCAR races and football games, the Country format seems to be quite popular 'round these parts.
