Bulk Conversion of WMA files to MP3

I have approximately 3500 WMA tunes integrated into my Hard Disk Volume of app 13,000 files organized alphabetically A-Z by Artist name.

Is there a reliable conversion programe that can bulk convert them to MP3 and leave the new MP3 files in the same source sub directories.

I can then search by WMA later and delete them when the MP3's have been tested.

Thanks Al

There's a bunch of conversion programs available.

Be advised though -- they do an analog conversion. What that means, is they actually play the song to your sound card, and record it, even though you can't hear it.

For general DJ work, I've found they work fine. I have Switch loaded, because I was too lazy to write my own.

Pretty good results, and you can do batch converts overnight. If you want every format available, you need to register, but it's fairly inexpensive.

Have a link ?? Will it keep the file location(s) in tact?

Thanks Al

Wow, thats interesting, I didn't know that at all.

So, if I use Audio Grabber to convert a track from one format to another, it does this? I had no clue.

AudioGrabber is a ripper Lou, and I would not use it for that task. It does have the capability, but was not designed for that.

I get tons of questions every week about WMA, iTunes, et. al. DRM stuff.

You can convert anything to anything easily, but again, an analog conversion.

If you are ripping your CDs with Windows Media Player (WMP for short), just go into the menu for Tools->Options->Rip Music, and set it to MP3 for the format.

iTunes I believe, has that option as well, but I will not allow it on my machines because of other issues with it. QuickTime is not allowed on any company machines as well.

Will any of these programs maintain the tagging info when converted from WMA to MP3. So Far Switch seems to be able to convert the files and keep them in the original locations but lose the Tag info.

I am looking at using WINAMP "Autotag" to post process them but was looking for a single program that does it all.

Any of y'all know if any of the programs listed can do it from A to Z?

Thanks for all the help BTW...

AL

I have found this program to be helpful also. This works great and should do what you ask.

Thats what I used when I needed to "downcode" (went from 320kbs to 192kbs) my mp3s. Kept all the ID3 tags in order.

yes there is this called: Alt WAV MP3 WMA OGG Converter

Alt WAV MP3 WMA OGG Converter is a tool that can convert files of all these formats between each other.

Now you can convert MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV files to any of these formats:
WAV -> MP3 (mp3 encoder)
WAV -> WMA (wma encoder)
WAV -> OGG (ogg[vorbis] encoder)
MP3 -> WMA
MP3 -> WAV (mp3 decoder)
MP3 -> MP3 (mp3 bitrate changer)
MP3 -> OGG
WMA -> MP3
WMA -> WAV (wma decoder)
WMA -> WMA (wma bitrate changer)
WMA -> OGG
OGG -> MP3
OGG -> WAV (ogg[vorbis] decoder)
OGG -> WMA
OGG -> OGG (ogg bitrate changer)

This program is intended for automatic (batch) conversion of music CDs and it is very convenient for this purpose. You should do only two actions - to create a list of files for encoding (you can simply drag&drop them to the Alt Converter main window from the Explorer or other file manager) and specify destination path for the created output files (by default they saved in some directory with source files).

the website is here >> http://www.nesoft.org/wav_mp3_wma_converter.shtml <<

I use it all the time and works great
