The Wizard Of OZ 12-31-2007, 04:09 PM This may have been asked before...:sqerr:
Is there an inexpensive or free program that will look through your music files and generate a printable list or a list that can be imported into excel? As I buy more and more CDs I am building a large library and I need a way to catalog and possible categorize and break down into genre so I imagine I'll need multiple lists.
Thanks

Jon Tuck 12-31-2007, 10:06 PM Heard great things about media monkey, However I have owned for less than 20 dollars Visitrax for Seven or eight yrs with upgrades for life. Also heard of some guys using one called cattrax I believe at a low price as well. Mine has paid for itself at every gig I have done. Its truly worth 20 to assist finding requests in seconds or allowing guests to browse it. I have done around 300 gigs with the assistance of this awesome tool for around .15 cents per gig.

I have one of those, don't remember which, since I haven't used it since I bought mediamonkey..... mediamonkey also rips and burns, and has all kinds of cool playback features.
Do yourself a favor and at least check out the FREE version. I did, and was so impressed that I immediately bought the paid version.

Request Line Productions 01-01-2008, 04:46 PM There's a free program called TagScanner. Works great and creates HTML pages of your lists.
The Wizard Of OZ 01-01-2008, 11:31 PM Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!:dbiggrin:
Just tried Tagscanner and it is GREAT!
Easy to use and powerful. Thanks so much!!!
I can even use it for my Karaoke list, YOU DA MAN!:dcool:
JoeChartreuse 01-07-2008, 03:12 AM Since I am a Karaoke Host first and DJ second, generating and printing song books ( or lists) is a neccesity. I use KJ Pro.
For DJ work I just create a custom songbook ( one click ). Since I can't use the KJPro's data base for DJ music, I have to enter songs, artists, and disc numbers manually, instead of clicking in the mfr. disc number, but that's the only drawback. You can choose a multidude of fonts, sizes, and layouts. You can print by artist, title, or disc number, or print a disc catalogue for inventory purposes. All one click. Of course you can browse on screen as well, finding songs in a flash. If you have duplicates, they can all be deleted with one click, if desired. You can search by title artist, or disc number, as well as key words or numbers in each field. You can create custom lists, for instance, Country, Hip Hop, etc.. You can copy selected songs from one book to another- again, one click.
If you have an existing list in Excel, it will import it- again, one click.
IMHO, the best song book/list generator out there.....
DjDennis 01-20-2008, 02:35 AM I just make a list in winamp and generate one as a html file list... that I think suits the night
it has all I need when I go to my shows

The data will still need a little massaging, but it's manageable. Hopefully you named your files correctly (proper delimeters) then it's a no brainer importing it into excel.
The Wizard Of OZ 02-01-2008, 01:45 AM toqer, you must be a programmer. Dude, I ain't no programmer. Tagscanner rocks the house. It's easy, it's fast and it does more than I was even looking for.
All hail tagscanner! HAIL!
Thanks Hank!
Request Line Productions 02-01-2008, 08:46 AM With TagScanner, you can take just the table info out of the generic HTML and modify it in your own web page. No more copycat search boxes. The client can browse your actual library.
Like so... (http://home.comcast.net/~requestline/80rock.html)
.
jokerswild 02-01-2008, 11:38 AM If you're making books for karaoke and are using AutOKdj you can export your music library to CSV and import into Excel do some magical modifing to make it compatable with your favorite book makeing software or just edit it there and vola you have a book or something that can be imported into a book making software that does more than excel can....
