You can always copy and paste this users account name to search for their videos: lights4321 Brian Martin 01-01-2008, 01:26 PM Dammit! it was there when I watched it a minute ago I know it New Years and a time to celebrate, but you should drink in moderation.:sqlaugh: Brian Martin 01-01-2008, 01:33 PM Ok, just so we have something to look at, here is my outside light show. Quite impressive, don't ya think? Tyrone Blue 01-01-2008, 03:25 PM I want one of those!!! sparkieg 01-01-2008, 06:48 PM Larry - do a search for this guy on YouTube - he seems to know his DMX programming pretty well. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=lights4321 DJ JohnThe1 01-01-2008, 10:42 PM Ok, just so we have something to look at, here is my outside light show. Was the net included?..:sqconfused: That's not an L1 if your looking at the thing next to him that's actually his partially opened shed door... and the other thing that the electricity is hitting is a basketball hoop.... I have seen this guy before... he has a much bigger lightning maker too... sparkieg 01-01-2008, 11:02 PM That's not an L1 if your looking at the thing next to him that's actually his partially opened shed door... and the other thing that the electricity is hitting is a basketball hoop.... (at least I hope you knew that) Brian Martin 01-02-2008, 12:18 AM Actually the L1's have multiple uses. Besides mounting a BB hoop on, around these parts they are used for playing horseshoes (leave top half off), cell phone towers, and for mounting volleyball nets. I have one on each side of my driveway with plastic gates mounted on them. Tyrone Blue 01-02-2008, 01:42 PM I posted a picture here somewhere of a working model in a club in Japan. Not that hard to build... but very expensive. jokerswild 01-02-2008, 02:26 PM Rob - that post was meant as a joke. (at least I hope you knew that) You know I can be such a blonde sometimes... ya know.... WaydeWest 01-02-2008, 03:48 PM Larry - do a search for this guy on YouTube - he seems to know his DMX programming pretty well. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=lights4321 That music is from the Fantasmic show at Walt Disney World (MGM Disney Studios, specifically). It's a great show BTW, with video projected onto water sprays. I use a custom edit of that music for wedding introductions. Cue that video up to 4:36 for the part I use for the B&G intro, timed to hit the 4:52 post with their entrance (and without the Mickey vocal at the end). The wedding party intro comes from a different segment of the song that he doesn't use in this video. Tyrone Blue 01-02-2008, 06:11 PM That show was VERY time intensive, but anyone here with some DMX ability could do it!!! I invited the guy over... hope he shows up! Jon Tuck 01-02-2008, 06:16 PM Is he a DJ Tyrone? Not that it matters just wondering. sparkieg 01-02-2008, 08:42 PM Yeah - I invited him too. I mentioned to him (Curtis is his name) that he should get in touch with Larry thru YouTube and that they should talk shop. Hopefully that will be the impetus needed to get him here. I think he would be a welcome addition to the family. Tyrone Blue 01-03-2008, 03:09 AM While I praised him, I haven't taken the time to put my "software" to work for myself. The only way to time that production is with software or MIDI input on a hardware controller. I don't know how to do that, and have to learn. My project for the new year is to complete my training in DMX software. I've got the extra laptop and software program with interface. I need to sit down an play with it some more. I did get one short show to run last fall, but I put it away for a while. You all will be the first ones to see my software show when I get 'er done. lights4321 01-03-2008, 04:21 PM Hey guys! I finally got around to registering. I'm in the process of editing the video for the Holiday '07 show right now, so that should be posted by tomorrow. Thanks for all the comments so far. Tyrone Blue 01-03-2008, 04:33 PM Your video shows the kind of perfection that we should all try to attain. I can't tell you what a great job you did programming that production... care to share details? And, welcome to our little abode... do you have any personal information you'd be willing to share with us? Tyrone Blue 01-03-2008, 06:26 PM I've been watching your two videos all afternoon. While I couldn't do that in the winter here (too much snow), I'm going to try and do something for the 4th of July in the yard. You've reset the bar for me... Time to get off my butt and learn software! When I asked about details, I want to know how many dimmer packs you used, and if your color changers are LED or incandescent bulb? What are the lights on the roof... just par cans? Total channels in use? How many feet of cable? Power circuits? Daylight pictures? Details... Folks, I tip my hat to Curtis!!! I currently have only two DMX 4 channel dimmer packs, and guess I'm going to need at least 4 - 6 more to pull of a show like yours. lights4321 01-04-2008, 04:45 PM Where to begin.... I'm 19, currently attending college at Cal Arts in Valencia, CA. I've been working hard since the 5th grade, starting with computer audio editing, then mobile DJ'ing, and now lighting design. I'm sure after viewing my videos you must think I have way too much time on my hands...really I don't, I just try and take on as many things as possible because in the design world you are doing multiple shows at the same time and going to bed at weird hours...if at all. I'm currently uploading this years Holiday Show to YouTube right now but regarding last years, there were 9 dimmer packs, 2 relay packs (for non-dimmed fixtures such as snow machines), 9 Scanners, 13 color scrollers, and a bunch of Par64's and Ellipsoidals (for gobos). Power was run with heavy guage cord all over the house to the dimmer packs. Wouldn't it have been nice to have socapex multicable??? Tons of DMX cable was used, a DMX splitter really makes things a lot easier...especially when troubleshooting. I'll try and get some day time pictures of this year's posted soon. I'm STILL taking down gear, organizing, fixing, etc. Lots of things to go wrong when exposed to the elements. For the record, Morpheus Color Faders dont like water too much. With a show like this, there is a lot of power consumption. I'm sure once LED's get better, I'll go that route but for now Pars with scrollers just look more pleasing to the eye regardless of intensity (just my opinion). It also allows you to have different beam spreads (Narrow, Medium, Wide), wheras the Chauvet and American DJ LED lights either come as a tight beam angle or throw light everywhere. Some of the Color Panels that allow you to do different chases look really cool though, but a lot of the LED DJ lighting reminds me of something you would buy at Spencer Gifts in the mall (again just my opinion). I do believe that if you don't see the source, as in if the fixture were hidden or used as front light, then LED par cans would be a great solution. If they are exposed to the audience, incorporating them more as an architectural or scenic element would look really amazing (ie. truss warmers, lighting the front of your house, or a complete wall of LED panels) instead of just using them as backlight. Also the ability to instantly snap to another color is AWESOME. The LED striplights would make amazing theater CYC lights or footlights as well. Alright enough talking. I'll post the new link when its finished uploading. Jon Tuck 01-05-2008, 03:13 AM Yay someone who used the Spencers Gifts Light analogy!!!! Bravo!!!! lights4321 01-05-2008, 03:04 PM Haha awesome. Anyways, here's the link... YouTube - Christmas Light Show 2007 sparkieg 01-07-2008, 04:24 AM This just further proves my theory that you are never too old (or young) to learn something new. Go back and read Curtis' post folks.........HE'S 19 YEARS OLD!!! As Larry said above: You've reset the bar for me. Folks, I tip my hat to Curtis!!! I too want to thank Curtis for accepting my invite to join us here at ODJT. I think his real world experience with programming/designing and sharing of ideas as he did above is what we are all about. I want to pick both Curtis' and Larry's brains about lighting designs and configurations in the future. On a related note, I found the pics from the Music City/Tracy Lawrence concert where the LD employed a brand new Whole Hog light board......I'll post those pics in the Bar & Club forum as soon as I get them scanned into the PC at home. Jon Tuck 01-07-2008, 07:59 PM Curtis the screen says video no longer vieweable. I have noticed this on my end several times now with a few Youtubes and the message of no longer available. lights4321 01-07-2008, 08:35 PM Jon, thanks for letting me know. If you go directly to YouTube and search for it, the video should come up fine. I guess the link doesn't work on the forum or something. Sparkieg, I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. At school, we use a GrandMA console, very similar to the Hog...as well as ETC Express and Obsession consoles. As a programmer, it is very important to be familier with the syntax of many boards. You will find there are many things in common with the software among lighting boards, you just need to find which one you are most comfortable with. Remember, DMX allows you to program anything you can imagine, you just need to find the simplest and fastest way of doing so because infortunately, time is money. Nice console! Just curious, do you have any experience with the LPX series from Leprecon? LPX-48 in particular? Welcome to ODJT! It's great to have you here. I might be in SD in a bit over a week. If so, I'll PM you. It would be great to meet you. Ben lights4321 01-08-2008, 02:19 AM Ben, Thanks for the welcome! I haven't had experience with the LPX-48, although browsing through the manual shows it is limited to 192 conventional channels. It doesn't seem like it could handle larger theater spaces. It is nice when the channels available are equivilant to the number of DMX universes. For example 2 universes of DMX SHOULD allow you to control 1024 channels. In theory this board would allow you to patch 1024 dimmers to 192 channels. It does, however, look like the keypad is very similar to ETC, which is good because it is so well known already. | |
