toqer 01-03-2008, 02:55 PM Yes I will be there, at the MMogroup(pocket songs) booth, hosting a "Booth Babe" karaoke contest.
Everything will be taped and uploaded to uncut/youtube. I want to do more than just host a contest though.
I'll be doing some informal interviews with some of the execs at pocket songs. I'll be taking the 10 best questions from this thread, and presenting it directly to the MMogroup guys.
PS:
This is going to be an ODJT exclusive. You other forums out there can kiss my butt, jerks.
jokerswild 01-03-2008, 03:32 PM Question #1:
With the state of the digital world and pirating being so prevelant wouldn't offering more online legal downloads be one way of curbing some of the problem by making the tracks people want more readily available kind of like an iTunes type of thing? Why or Why Not?
Jon Tuck 01-03-2008, 04:33 PM oh thanks Rob,
now how can we compare to that. I must think how to give one worthy of the one you asked.
Steve Sharp 01-03-2008, 06:38 PM "pocket songs"... did that derive from the famous game "pocket pool", and what do you think of the karaoke booth babes?
jokerswild 01-03-2008, 06:56 PM Question #2:
If karaoke music is made available in some fasion as mentioned in question 1... do you believe that this would have to be some sort of DRM protection or will music be made available unprotected?
Question #3
At a minimum these types of systems have only served to impead would be file sharers. Are there any protection systems comming down the pike that may be more affective?
Question #4
Do you believe the brick and mortor type of distribution system will survive once online sales take the obvious up swing that they will in the near future?
Jon you have any questions you wanna add? lol

3 Namm badges. Winamp author Justin Frankel is going with us (we run with the llamas).
I have my work cut out for me. I have to get all 40 of these CDG's ripped and named within the next couple of days. I gotta go to Justins house to pick up a 42" Sony plasma TV that we're going to hang in the back of the booth.
I'm going to make that booth look awesome.
OK, so let's get back on topic...
This is our chance to work with Pocket Songs. We can make a difference. They are willing and open minded towards making karaoke better for everyone. This isn't just about me, or for just me, it's about us, the honest hardworking KJ's that actually want to make a difference in this industry against all the negative forces that have been dragging it down the past few years.
So how about it? Cam? Joe? Carolyn? Kayliegh? Danny? I'm talking to you guys. Love or hate me, again, this is our chance to work with them to fix things.
jokerswild 01-07-2008, 11:01 PM Sweeeeeeeet!
kayleigh 01-08-2008, 12:28 AM Geez.... How much are tickets? *cough* I feel a winter fever coming on...
toqer 01-08-2008, 07:02 PM There's no such thing as paying to get in kay :(
It costs $10,000 for the smallest sized booth at NAMM. Your booths location and sqr footage determines how many badges you are allotted. There are red E badges (exhibitor) and yellow V (visitor) badges. There's also blue B (Buyer) badges. The blue badges will have people literally throwing rose petals at your feet.
There's also the infamous holographic VIP badge. The NAMM committee gives these out to people of importance. The ones wearing the badges are usually so surrounded by papperazi and security that you have no chance of getting close enough to really see what the VIP badge looks like.

I took that my first year at NAMM.
All badges have to be requested within a few weeks of the show start. Can't do anything a week before :(
Walking up to a booth with a V or E badge will mostly get you ignored.
Now there is a 3rd, special badge
Steve Sharp 01-08-2008, 08:30 PM I shall be there, with my "E" badge.
Carolyn 01-09-2008, 10:29 AM Thanks Toqer! How could we not love you!
I am with Rob on this one his #1 question, it would be really nice to have easier access for song replacements. I have some old cdgs that really need to retire but some of the songs on them I can't find any where else.

If I were you I'd convert them to mp3+g and maybe even reburn them back to CDR for safe keeping and playback instead of using those valueable CDGs before it's too late. Power CDG Burner will do all that for you.... www.powerkaraoke.com
I just converted purchased songs from www.tricerasoft.com to CDG to protect against PC failure in case I have to reload files. And I can play them in a regular CDG player if need be.
Sorry for the HiJack
Carolyn 01-09-2008, 10:56 AM Thanks Rob, I need to do something. There isn't anyway to fix glitches is there?

Depends on if they are caused by scratches and how bad the scratches are.... you could try one of those cd resurfacing devices to buff out any scratches... that might help the read side of the disc, but if you have scratches on the label side that's a whole nother ball of wax... if that's the case I don't think anything will fix it... since that is where the data really is....
That's why, and I'm sure you know this, it is safer to lay discs read side down with the label up to avoid scratching the data portion of the disc...
Simply converting wont fix it.
Carolyn 01-09-2008, 12:54 PM Thanks Rob, sorry for the hijack Toqer.

What do you want to fix?
Ask them to release cd+g in mp3+g format on disc.
Other than that I can't really complain about anything other than the lack of music being released.
kayleigh 01-16-2008, 01:09 AM I'd like to know about the process manufacturers go through to get music. How do they decide what songs they'd like to produce? What do they go though to request song licensing & sync rights? What's the average time (request to final release)? How has it changed now that the artist also gets a say in sync licensing rights?
jokerswild 01-17-2008, 07:39 PM If you have winamp you can go to NAMM

maestro 01-17-2008, 09:26 PM Pocket Songs are the absolute best in karaoke for Big Band stuff. I love the live orchestra that they use, sounds great. They are the only ones I'll sing along with when I'm performing standards at a gig, I use them for my backing tracks. JT's heard me... Buble even used them on his first CD before he was signed, of which I have an autographed copy. Tell the big wigs I said thanks for the good work! :)
