Well finally got some free time and installed one of the single channel DMX relay boards and a power supply into my Starball II, some no more dimmer/relay packs, one more step to simplfy lighting setup. I picked up the DMX boards on ebay, to buy the board, and a few parts to build the the power supply was about $100.00, yeah more than I paid for the Starball II, but oh well. I had the mounting hardware and got the XLR panel connectors from a friend. I took some inside after install pictures, but they didn't come out very good so you don't get to see my wiring job. As you can see in the first picture, there is tons of empty space in the base. My next conversion will be the ADJ Flash Duo, this will probablly require a little more work since the base is not as big, may have to mount and external box.

Looks great!
What can you tell it to do with the 1 channel of DMX control?

My guess simply to turn it on or off.... maybe even speed...
I would however like to see a detailed convertion step-by-step as I've considered a mod like this too.
It is simply a relay, to turn it on. The relay closes and applies the 120 volt to the motor and the light.
Step by Step
Should have taken more pictures, and looked at the ones I took.
The hardest part for me was cutting out the rectangle hole for the DIP switch, traced the outline and drilled 3 small holes and then got out the dremel with a cutting disk.
The other bad part was drilling the holes for the XLR connectors, round but big, the metal is thin so the drill grabbed and bent the plate some, I had to hammer it back out some. I need a set of chassis punches. When I do the next conversion I'll take more pictures and also I will try to open the Starball back up tommorrow and take more inside pictures.
