Just wondering how many of you guys are using a computer full time for your gigs? Audio only. I find it time consuming loading music on the laptop,Takes alot of my time, just wondering maybe putting certain music just to get started,im using mainly cd"s for now

Yes converting your cds to digital files s a PITA but the rewards in simplicity are worth the cost of time... keep plugin' away and you will be rewarded.

I've been completely CD-free since 2003! After my first gig with a CPS I stopped bringing CDs for a backup.

Like Rob says, yes, it takes A LOT of time to convert your plastic over to computer files, but their ease of use at a gig (or anywhere else) FAR outweighs the burden of ripping your tunes.

To start, rip your songs that you play most often. Then when you get the time, rip the other songs. Who knows...you may find that you really don't need the songs you only play once in a blue moon. On the other hand, if you have the HD space, rip everything and don't worry about it!

I accidentally bumped the power switch tonight. Oops.

The real killer of my system is i'm using the computer as the effects, mixing, routing in addition to playing MP3's. Kill the power, and you're waiting till your PC reboots in order to get ANY sound out.

I've worked the same place every week since 2001 and this is maybe my 3rd screwup like that there. Not a bad average.

It works though. I love being able to load software effects, EQ, whatever I want. I'd never go back to a regular mixer, or CD's ever again.

Just started down the path of being a full-time digital dj. I won't go back. I had already done the leg work of putting all of my music onto an external hard-drive months ago, so when I was ready to make the right software purchase for my needs I would be ready to RockIt (shameless plug for my software choice).

I don't use the laptop for ripping. I do all of my work on the desktop, in the comfort of my office while drinking a beer and surfing the internet. Put the disc in, hit rip, surf until it pops out and do it all over again. It may take awhile, but dude, it's WORTH every minute of it.

Good Luck on your quest!!

This is my number one goal for 2008 to buy a digital product (cortex or denon) and 2 - 500 external HD
