No CDG...

I was checking through my karaoke today because I had converted to the Ots formated set... so that I could test them in OtsAV and found that 2 discs plus 1 track for a total of 22 songs I didn't get a CDG screen.... I got the cdg file but it's blank...

The discs in question are:

Disney Vol. 2 Music from cartoon movies such as Alladin, Pocahontis... etc
Disney Vol. 3 Also Music from the cartoons such as Beauty & The Beast... etc.

And the one track was from: SBG0001 track 16

I double checked the MP3+G files that these songs were converted from and there again no lyric screen just a cdg file that's blank... I tried re-ripping with Audiograbber and Power CDG Burner and neither worked...

I tested a known good track from the SGB disc and it ripped just fine... it's got me scratchin my head now...

I'll have to admit that I never played any of these songs ever.... not even from disc... I bought em (the disney discs) because I figured I might be in a VFW hall or somethin like that where families were welcome... and figured the kiddies would like the songs.... as for the SGB track... it's no biggie since SGB duplicates tracks... a lot.

It's no great loss to me but it was strange to come accros... I probably would never have know if I had not converted to the Ots format... and saw that none of these tracks had a "g" designation next to them in the media library of OtsAV... that's what prompted me to check them out.

So just you other digital KJ's consider this an FYI

Could be but that doesn't explain the SGB disc.... lol

Since I've never played either of the Disney discs I can't be sure they were always blank.... same with the SGB disc.... I do know that using Power CDG Burner has provided me with super clean rips in the past and Audiograbber has never failed me before either....

Chartbuster has always been the only tricky ones to rip in the past.

I can't help with the Disney discs, but can tell you about the SGB:

To put it strangely, track 16 on the SGB001 jazz disc doesn't exist
:sqerr: If you load that disc and track into a standard CDG player, it will read track 16, show the SGB logo ( partially, if I recall) and play the audio- but no lyrics appear.

If you look up the ORIGINAL track listing for that disc ( that shown in the KJ Pro database IS correct) only 15 tracks are listed. Nothing more was SUPPOSED to be on that disc, but there was a manufacturing error. Hence, no graphis/lyrics.

BTW- if you own an SGB01 disc without that track, you can be sure it's counterfeit.

hmmmmm..... interesting about the SGB disc

I'll have to pop it in my CDG player and see if it plays the lyrics... last I checked track 16 did when played in a CDG player... but it's been soo long since I've used such an out dated method of play back :sqwink:

PS I have noticed that very same thing about several of my SGB discs where there is a track that isn't listed on the disc or the manu's or on any songbook software listing program.... so yeah I'm well aware of the -er umm- Bonus tracks.

I do believe that the Disney discs are blank due to the sync license for those songs. Some songs have lyrics, some don't, all have the audio.

Most of the kiddies know all the lyrics to them anyways.... :sqlaugh:

Nah that's not the case.... they both indicate "On Screen Lyrics"

But, you are right in some cases with the kiddie songs, but these songs are music done by artists such as Phil Collins, Celin Dion, Elton John and others... from movies such as 101 Dalmations, Dumbo, Pocahantas, Aladin, Beauty and The Beast & others.

Most of these songs except for a couple I have listed by the original artist as well from other disc sets.... so no worries all the missing music was just fluff anyway...

I just never knew they didn't rip right... and wouldn't have unless someone had asked for that particular version... but, as would happen I had converted them to make an ots set for testing and when they displayed in the Media Library they didn't have the "G" next to them indicating a graphic file... that's how I discovered the error....

Oh well I guess I wont be buying anymore Disney Karaoke. Even though I can still play it via an old fashioned CDG player... just have to blow the cobwebs off the thing....

Can't have that one - still using it.

Just to screw you up - and I don't believe I've mentioned this before- I DO use the PC when I'm forced to for straight DJ work. It's limited capabilities are ok for that....just not karaoke...

Yah Joe,

So limited that I can.
A. provide seperate VU meters for the mic/background music for my singers on the CDG screen
B. provide seperate VU meters for the mic/background music for my singers on the video stream (this way they can truly critique my mixing post coitus)
C. Multiple touch screen kiosks eliminating books and pens
D. Playlist on the CDG screen, video stream, and various locations around the club. No "karaoke black hole" here. I even have some customers in the neighborhood that go to thier house a block away, tune in the stream, and walk back when thier songs up.

Ya, real limited for karaoke there. You must have a huge kenis compared to me.

Ok and to stay on topic...

Yah, i've been submitting a few disks to the freeDB lately. I notice on the cases some songs marked "Artist has not given permission to reprint the lyrics." Like 1, of the 8 tracks doesn't have animated graphics, just a static statement of what I quoted above.

I've been marking those tracks as "nocdg" sort of like how you might label a track with example vocals "w~voice". Unfortunately the freedb rejected all my submissions :(

I've seen a few of these from MMoGroup. Shame the artists won't let them sync lyrics :(

You love trolling for toqers :)

I use shup.

www.shup.com

My friend cryptomail wrote it (nullsoft friend). It takes screenshots, gives you a little image preview, and lets you annotate (magic marker) the image before uploading it to stashbox.org. After it uploads your image, it puts the URL to the image in your copy/paste buffer so you just have to hit the little "add picture" icon on the forums, hit paste and your screenshot is instantly in your forum post.

JW and I use it religiously.

Now ya know the true reason I'm a luddite. Between downloading, ripping, screwing with PC effects, Artist groups making noise about MP3s, arguing about the best software, dealing with compatability, converting other Luddites, buying and maintaining my equipment, trying to make my face less scary, learning how to magic marker stuff, and moving up in size of my , er, enhancement, PLUS my opinion of MP3s and whatever other PC problems may arise, and the rest, I just ain't got the time! :sqcool::sqlaugh:
