iTunes & The Downloader Virus - Weird Issue

I know nothing about iTunes...zero...zip....nada.

My brother-in-law is nuts about it and has thousands upon thousands of albums/tracks on an external hard drive.

Recently, he got hit by the "downloader" virus, cleared the problem, verified it was fixed/removed, and now iTune tracks will play via the proper iTunes player perfectly from the internal hard drive, but any tracks on the hard drive default to the win media player and won't.

I'm going to his house later today to have a look see and would appreciate knowing if someone has experienced this for any reason and could offer up their remedy.

My plan of attack is to check file and folder associations, various options within the players, and the properties and features on the external. Anything and everything to avoid the need to transfer 500gb from the external to the internal, format the external, then transfer them back. There has to be an easier way.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Possibly a license issue, so be careful...

If the licenses aren't valid on the external for whatever reason now, and you transfer to the internal, you might screw up the song licenses, and then they might not play anywhere :sqerr:

Not sure, as I don't use iTunes, and I'm not exactly sure how they store their license info, but a possibility...

Cap, I have always said if people want to download from iTunes and use WMA files then DONT come calling or crying to me when they can not play them anymore

if he has MP3's then he should be ok as it doesnt use this DRM crap
thats why microcrap wants to STOP people copying and posting them on p2p programs

WMA is crap and always will be crapola

MP3 is the best format for Audio (Apart from ______ thats not WMA)
