jokerswild 01-20-2008, 09:45 PM For those of you that use Audiograbber religiously to rip your CDG's I'm issuing a challange....
Spend the $40 you were going to on popcorn and pop tonight at the movies and get a copy of Power CDG Burner.
Now here's the challange....
Rip several discs that you know have graphic problems no matter how small or large those issues are... follow the tutorial I posted for using Power CDG Burner. Then rip those same discs or tracks using Audiograbber and the best known settings for ripping CDGs.... and compare each track for quality of graphics and then report back here if the $40 was worth it or not...
Jon you are well positioned to chime in on this one since you are using Power CDG Burner too.... you do the same thing.

Jon Tuck 01-21-2008, 01:51 AM Okay I still have my singer read the lyrics off a hand held slate chalk board and they sing through a rah rah mega phone.
Jon Tuck 01-21-2008, 02:15 AM Im joking but also I cant pipe in until you help me through the details. I will phone this week. I ripped one disc but need to ask questions about the titles etc. PM good times to phone starting Tuesday. OH and by the way for those who say you cant run Karaoke along with a dance alternate throughout an evening. It worked again for me Last night pics and songs to be posted soon in the gig report.

kayleigh 01-23-2008, 12:55 AM I voted AudioGrabber, but I should have voted Other.
I've used MTU's Microstudio for, oh, at least 4 years now for CDG ripping and backup. I have two licenses for it - one for my gig computer & one for my home computer. The graphics are very clean and there isn't too much that trips it up. (Except those with that stinkin' SC mediacloq.... GRRRRRR!) Discs have to be pretty dirty or scratched up before Mstudio rips with artifacts.
I use AudioGrabber on my boyfriend's computer because, well, I don't want to pay for another Mstudio license. :D

I agree Jon, Some of my most successful, enjoyable gigs involve Karaoke, intertwined with Dancing and Rock 'N' Roll. It is more work, and its easier if you have an assistant. I think it also showcases your multiple talents to you clients, guests. Great for referrals......
jclaydon 01-24-2008, 11:31 AM Ok forgive the ignorance, but what the heck is a luddite? :)
Jon Tuck 01-24-2008, 11:36 AM jclaydon if you had to ask lol look in a mirror?

We apply the term to folks that aren't quite ready to let go of the old DJ ways and come over to the dark side that is being a Computerized DJ.

jclaydon 01-25-2008, 04:50 PM hmm so what do you call someone who isn't afraid of computized dj but can't because the current laws won't support it? :(
I guess until the situation changes, I'll just have to be a luddite by proxy. :sqeek:

Hahahah that would be just too funny to hear.
toqer 01-26-2008, 04:29 PM After trying powercdg burner out for a week...
Its OK, but my final alalysis is it lacks a few things that could really make it great.
Pro:
It cleanly rips CDG's at 1x
It zips mp3+g pairs
Structured title formatting
Con:
If you accidentally hit enter at the wrong time, the entire app closes up. Not good.
It doesn't keep a local database of disks you've ripped.
It's ripping engine might be based on CDRAO, which is GPL based. Where is the source?
It's OK, but the next set of CDG's I get i'm going to try audiograbber on them at 1x just to see if there really is a difference. I'm also going to try using CDRAO straight up.

No One's afraid- I actually use PCDJ/KJ for very small private home events. It's just a matter of preference. BTW- even in the U.S. the laws are still a bit fuzzy, and have caused problems even for "legal" hosts.
I would love that sound clip, if you still have it....

For me there is no comparison... Power CDG Burner rips clean and that's all that matters to me....
I don't think even Power CDG Burner is truely slowing my drive down to 1x speed... I believe the slowest my drive will read at is 4x. I've tried Audiograbber at 1x and even then it reports the read speed as between 3x and 5x... and even at those speeds I don't always get a clean rip with AudioGrabber, but I do with Power CDG Burner....
Toqer: Try this I know that one of Vic's favorite songs is messed up... grab that disc and rip it with Power CDG Burner... you know what song that is right? He tried to sing it the night I was there.
