MADNESS 01-22-2008, 08:52 PM I am doing a wedding in a month. The grand entry music is "Shel Silverstien - invitations". First dance is "Ryan Orr - a simple song"
Requested music styles - scratch track, mattub, Dresden Dolls and Jim White.
The wedding is being held at the Japanese botanical garden with the reception at the Greater Arizona Puppte Museum.
Definitely will be an unusual event to say the least, kinda looking forwqard to it but nervous at the same time. Definitely not normal types of wedding music. Just thought I would post, any one heard of these group. I do not have any of them. I have heard of Dresden Dolls.
Bill Kexel 01-23-2008, 02:00 AM Yikes. This sounds like one of those accidents waiting to happen. Where their choice in music will result in an empty dancefloor, with everyone looking at you as the culprit.
Fred Stewart 01-23-2008, 02:25 AM You may wish to get more detailed info from the B&G. Specific songs, are these genres for background or dinner music etc.
Do they need your service for the ceremony? Reason I ask... it's not unheard of for brides to choose unusual songs to be played as background music during the ceremony.
How about dinner music? Is this what they'd like played during dinner, toasts and so forth?
I apologize for playing devil's advocate here... I'm just thinkin' that the B&G have their reasons for this rather unusual request list.
Finally, have a look at Amazon to see if you can find the songs or CDs they want. If not there, start Google searching. It's out there somewhere. :)
Jon Tuck 01-23-2008, 03:12 AM Hello Doomsday DJs. We know your song selections cant possibly be acceptable. After all what do you think your hiring me for? I know all.

In most cases, guests judge you on the success of the event you are DJing.
If it bombs...99.9% think that DJ sucked!
But, you never know?...maybe 99.9% of the people at this event are into that music.
Me thinks...not.
Jon Tuck 01-24-2008, 12:40 AM Well one things for sure Im still here to say it doesnt always work out as Me thinks it should but Im still here in business and on point fulltime now without any negative results from any of the eclectic songs or events I allowed to play through my systems thus far.

To each his own I guess?
Fred Stewart 01-25-2008, 02:01 AM There may be another possibility to consider. I'd forgotten about it 'til tonight. Some of these songs and artists may be more of a let's-wait-and-see.
Sometime back I posted a similar query about a music genre I'd never heard of before. It was on the B&G's playlist so I figured I'd better find it. Someone here (I can't recall who) found it for paid download at Calabash Music. Also, the CD was available at Amazon.
It was Asian music. The song they wanted had a nice, uptempo beat but I couldn't understand a word of the lyrics, lol.
Anyhoo, to make a long story short, we never did play the songs. The groom told us not to bother with it. Apparently, his parents were in Asia and couldn't make the wedding for some reason. The B&G nixed the honeymoon dance and bouquet/garter as well. It was more of a family reunion and dance party than anything else. :)
MADNESS 02-17-2008, 03:38 AM We killed it, did sound for wedding and reception. They were so happy, they went on and on about what a wonderful job we did. Especially with the music choices they had. Blending in the mainstream music with the music they requested. Glad I took the job!!!:sqlaugh::sqrolleyes:

Bill this was a bunch of poets and artists and such, they all loved this music. They were dancing and having a great time to my mix plus this music. It is actually very good. I really like Maktub. If you get a chance check it out!!
Jon Tuck 02-17-2008, 03:46 AM Thanks Scott Im glad it went well as these are ones that refresh me, like a early spring air. Good job for sticking to it and coming away with a special new angle.
MADNESS 02-17-2008, 03:52 AM This couple was so special the toasts took 45 minutes. Everyone said how they had helped them, taught them, loved them. They shared their house when they were down and out with friends. People just went on and on. At the end of the toasts I had to add in that I had been doing this for 15 years and I had never seen such and outpouring of love and respect for a couple. That they were truly blessed and a wonderful couple and I was glad to share the day with them.
At the end of it I had everyone crying, it was much more eloquint (sp?) than I wrote it. I wasn't trying to it just came out. Both of them came up to me and said that it was beautiful what I said in ending the toasts.
GOD I LOVE IT WHEN THE NIGHT IS GOOD!!!
