Anyone using Swift Elite software?

That's Tricerasofts karaoke hoster isn't it... not many use it that I know of cause it's a bit of a resource hog....

Yes, it's Tricerasoft.

Please explain what you mean by a resource hog. (I'm a computer dumb user.)

What I mean is it sucks up the resources in your computer for example CPU power, ram things like that...

A simple program like winamp + autokdj does a far better job... and requires much less of your computer.

I use WinAmp with the KJ plugin and a $10 add on program called Pacemaker. (for key change and pitch shifting)
I own a copy of Swift but use WinAmp.

You should really try out AutOKdj I think you'll find that the rotation handling is much, much better than the generic KJ plugin....

I've been fooling around with Swife Elite and I think it's great. What other software can do music, karaoke, slideshow, video, text scrolling, sign display, drop sampling and live camera feed?

Where can I get " AutOKdj"?

...and to add, now supports the Denon DN-HC4500 MIDI controller.

In this world of high tech wording means different things.

In the above text I mentioned "text scrolling". I didn't mean "text messaging".

I referred to running a text message across your big screen wishing the bride and groom "congratulations, or someone a happy birthday or anniversary.

Sorry about that.

I didn't know that it now supports the mini controller.

What does the Denon DN-HC4500 MIDI controller do? What is it for?

Ok Swift Elite is nice and fancy but when you can't even perform the simplest of tasks such as importing your mp3s into it something is wrong.... also I went thru their tips and the only mention to karaoke is dragging the tracks to players A or B and starting your rotation... there is no mention of including your singers name and automatic rotation handleing... so from that stand point you might as well be using CDG discs and a pad of paper for all that program is worth......

Seriously, you'd think that a company that sells mp3+g online would also produce a player that does karaoke right... but they don't.

AutOKdj allows you to enter your singers name and controls the rotation for you... no stinking pads of paper needed to manage your rotation...

Just download the latest Winamp and use the Classic Skin... Dowload AutOKdj www.autokdj.com import your karaoke mp3's or zips and from there on the autokdj forums you'll find some quick tutorials on how to setup and use autokdj... look for my posts on newbies and setting up to run a normal rotation (aka the Non-Bamboo style)....

Seriously guys for a straight up karaoke program it doesn't get any better... you don't need all the bells and whistles software manus like VDJ, OtsAV and Swift Elite are trying to sell you... none of them do karaoke right... it's an after thought for them.... not with AutOKdj karaoke is the only thought for them.

jokerswild, I Thank You for the words of advice and the site address.

Do you own a complete version of Swift Elite or only the Demo version?

Actually I downloaded the Trial version which is suppose to be a fully functioning version for 10 days... and I'll be darned if I can even figure out how to get my music into it.... but just tooling around the buttons and reading their help files I find absolutely no information about supporting an automated rotation... just tells ya to load the decks and start your rotations... which to me tells me that you'll still have to manually maintain your rotation list and update it manually...

With AutOKdj you don't need to do that... just enter a singers name select the song and Enque.... and their name plus the title of their song appears in the Playlist.... and each new singer enqued will automatically be placed in the rotation and on the playlist even if they choose multiple songs to sing it will automatically place them where they belong as more singers are added and so forth. All you do is hand off the mic... if you are in full auto mode.

Some might say using Winamp is unprofesional... but I'm here to tell you that none of the so called professional high dollar karaoke specific or even the do it all products come even close to doing karaoke right... so which is more professional is what I have to ask, one that works and does all the major functions of a KJ host right, or the ones that do some of them?

PCDJ w/KJ Plugin: Does karaoke and sortof does rotation but doesn't handle them automatically but just makes a list...

VDJ: You can drag karaoke into the playlist and play them but no names and no rotation

OtsAV: Same as VDJ altho they say there is a rotation feature in the works

Compuhost: Has rotation but again doesn't automatically place new singers properly

Sax & Dotty Showpresenter (uses winamp): Again has rotation but doesn't automatically place singers

Roxbox (aka Kjamp and uses winamp): Has a dual feature that runs two instances of winamp, has rotation but again does not place singers automatically

Are you seeing a pattern here.... while all of these products have their good points and bad none handle rotations as efficiently and properly as AutOKdj... this is why its called "Auto"kdj.

I've had absolutely no problems importing any of my mp3s or karaoke files.. *shrug*

Also you can enter the singer's name, you just have to right click on the song and its on the edit menu.. It will also announce the next singer on the second monitor/tv.

I like the cross fade and the sound clip buttons... I have them all grouped by functions.. the first group are basically clips with general funny phrases that I use all the time like from forest gump "I gotta pee". The jeapordy theme song when someone is taking to long to get to the stage.. applause etc.

The second page are clips of things I use to insult people who i know won't be offended..*this is everyone cause i only use a computer for private parties*

I have a clip from Xena warrior princess that says "So, you have nothing to say in your defense.. So be it, the sentence is...DEATH" Gets people laughing almost every time

Then i have a a comple of complements from varouis movies and shows like Pinky & the Brain.

Goes over really well at my private parties.

That being said, i'm starting to fall in love with the auto rotation features for AutoKdj so much that i will probably use that if i ever find a legal solution..

take care

James, where did you buy your sound clips? Or did you make them? How long have you been using Swift Elite?

jclaydon

I got most of my sound clips from fan sites all over the internet. I have a digital dj liscense so I figure it's ok to use them.

Some i did get from a DJ Tools disc, but i don't think you can buy it anymore.. I'll have to research that.

as for Swift elite, i use it for private parties, as there currently is no digital liscense for karaoke in Canada, and I haven't gotten the written proof i need from the karaoke companies to buy the digital tracks i want from the states.

But i've been using it for over a year. But as people say, it is quite a resource hog. Seems like every program has its drawbacks..

take care

I'd love to see the 2 here that are using swift elite give some more feedback, can you play filler music using the program, are you also using the lighting program?

I've been using SE3 for over a year. Just experimenting on the lighting part. No Karaoke for me. I do like the dual playlist. They can be set to automix between both decks from either playlist or each playlist can be assigned to specific deck. I'm not to fond of the way they handle music "collections" but I can live with it. Might just be I'm not using it right.

I can't comment about the lighting because I don't have a dmx controller yet.. Plus i have read over the directions several times, and it still hasn't quite clicked yet. But then, that could be because I'm having a hard time grasping the concept of dmx.

But the automix feature is useful. If you don't need lights or karaoke, then you could also look at Rockit 4.0 the link is on one of these forumns somewhere... http://www.rockit2000.com/

it has some similar features and is a lot cheaper.. but you can download both swift elite and rockit for evaluation before you buy it.. so the best thing would be to go thru it all, and see which one works best for you

Gentlemen, I've been running SE for a while, but consider myself a "dumb user". What would you like to know about SE? Are you having problems with the lighting? I don't understand DMX either, but together maybe we can understand it better.

For the lighting controls, you need to know a bit more then DMX to make sure the SCRAM unit is set up right. I can do simple stuff like set a few static scenes and the BeamX function, but making moving scenes are something I haven' t played with much. Last year I had a few issues using the DMX Effect that I didn't like and I got annoyed with it. To me, not very intuitive.
