The Federal Communications Commission topped the $10 billion it needs to collect from its 700-megahertz spectrum auction, although it still needs to meet its floor prices for each block of spectrum before that number becomes official.

$13b now, I think.
I'm more curious about the Google provision (http://techland.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/01/31/google-gets-its-way-with-new-wireless-network/) in the auction. It looks good on paper (open source in the wireless spectrum), but you know they'll find a way to angle it to make them $$$ and get majority market share in... something!

Wasn't this auction and the potential benefits from it, that was part of the basis for the Microsoft bid for Yahoo, and....also the reason Yahoo has resisted?
