I got the prize for my next Karaoke Contest today from Coors Brewing.
2 Night stay at The Riveria Hotel and Casino and Las Vegas.
I think this is funny since we will all be there next week.
I have to work on details of how the contest will run, so if anyone has any alternate contest suggestions I'm open to ideas.

Cam, we need some details before offering alternatives. Is this a one shot contest at a special venue, or is this something you're trying at your own venue to drum up business (not recommended)?
One night or many? Contest rules? Judging criteria / judging panel? etc....

This is at one of my regular bars. We run a contest every spring. This is my 4th annual.
Normally I run qualifying for 6 weeks and finals on week seven.
I generally have 3 judges. I'm looking for fresh ideas.
Maybe making a list of x number of songs and they must sing something from the list.

Well if you're looking for a different or new idea, I have one.. send the tickets to me! :sqlaugh::sqwink:
Seriously tho, that's about all you can do for a contest like that.. keeps it fair.. just my two cents..

I don't have any idea for an alternate contest, but I would suggest this:
Since the grand prize is for Vegas, see if the place will do a runner up prize for Atlantic City? You could then bill it as "Singing For a Gamble" or something like that and have the two prizes tied together with a theme.

Good idea but the prize was provided by Coors Brewing. I can't get other prizes at this time.
Things I am thinking about:
No Slow Songs
Song must be written after 1980
I'm sick of hearing slow and crappy old songs at contest.

Ah you could always allow additional intro points for singing a non ballad song which would encourage the real competitors to choose something upbeat. Even giving maximum additionals for the more energetic songs chosen.

Two words which would surely pack the place:
Topless Karaoke!!!
