DJ Enigma 02-06-2008, 11:25 PM I come to you ladies and gentlemen for help once again. I have to run an 80's night on March 8th and, quite frankly, I don't know much of a thing about 80's music. I know most of the popular songs that I usually play during a normal set and that get heavy karaoke rotation (Pour Some Sugar On Me, I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night, Don't Stop Believin', Living On A Prayer, etc...) but I have no idea how I'm going to manage a four and a half hour set.
Now I have a pretty good collection of 80's music. Certainly way more than enough for the set. The problem is, I have no idea what sort of stuff I should play. I don't want to end up playing something by *insert artist here* because I know they were popular in that decade, only to have it turn out that it's slow and has minimal beat. Ugh - 80's music is my kryptonite.
ANY help you folks could provide me would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I wanted to get this post up as quickly as possible to allow myself the maximum amount of time possible to prepare for this potential disaster. :sqerr: As always, thanks in advance.

And absolutely include some Blondie!
For a nice slow toon, "Keep on Lovin' You" by REO Speedwagon, though that may have been early 90's.

Papa Deuce: I can't say I've ever had the luxury of rolling around in a pile of $50 bills, although I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think I'd prefer that. Haha.
Keep 'em coming! The more, the better! Thanks again!

Well, it's nice that you have places like this to come to and as always, we're happy to help.
However, there's a lesson here. You took a big risk (at the client's expense) here putting the cart before the horse. It's like contracting yourself to paint a mural and then taking an online course on how to paint one.
That said, you're going to have to be ready to play more than the typical fanfare from those discs you posted. Make sure your fixed for "New Wave" (http://home.comcast.net/~requestline/80newwave.html) and "R&B" (http://home.comcast.net/~requestline/80rb.html).:sqwink:
Good luck.

Your point is very valid. However, those aren't quite the circumstances. It's being held at the bar I play every Saturday night. I'm their in-house DJ that night. It was just tossed on me last Saturday as, "Hey! Just so you know, the 8th of March is going to be 80's night! So make sure you come prepared with 80's music and dressed up like an idiot to fit in!" So it's not a gig that I took, per say. It's my normal Saturday gig deciding to have a themed night, which unfortunately revolves around a decade I wasn't alive for over 1/3 of. :sqerr:
On the other hand, those links you provided me with are great. Thanks a million. I just wanted to clarify the circumstances of the gig. :sqwink:
