Are They All The Same?

Seems like the last 3 or 4 Corps that I have done have all been the same.... cocktails, dinner, awards that go too long, and then some dancing......

I guess we on Maui see this a lot,,, When I was on the Mainland, we would get these at Holiday parties,,, but here they come to award their employees for selling or production or whatever.....

It's not a bad thing, just a fun thing.....

Last December was the first time that I really had a handle on the holiday parties.

Its how you mix the background music and emcee thru the awards presentation that counts. Bedside manner will have an effect on what the crowd thinks.

Yeah its an ego deflator when there's only an hour left to dance....but one of my best reviews (12-6) was exactly this type of "boring party" that I used to hate--- fun is what you make of it.

I like to come up with snappy backround tunes that happen to "fit" the presenter's style, or to just give them a music bed to make their presentation more effective.

One recent example was when they crowned the Employee of the Year, and I knew he was something of a Ladies Man (having seen him at prior events). I played the intro to "Sexy Back" for his walk up to the podium to accept his award. The crowd roared.

Last week I did a party for Western Didital,,, they make hard drives.... As the called each winner up I played "bumper" music,,, the CEO thought it was great, even danced to it and said on the mic how great it was to have this music...

So it got me to think, I always do that, second nature.... now who have they been using as a DJ who doesn't do that? LOL

Since I realized that I hated doing weddings and stopped, corporates have been my private event mainstay. Yes, they CAN be very similar- If you let them. Sometimes, if I get a good vibe from the client, we will work out ways in advance to get through the dreary stuff more quickly and give more time to just having fun. It pretty much depends on the client and the occasion...
