Across The Universe -- Beatles tribute movie?

We just returned "Across The Universe" to Blockbuster........after keeping the DVD for an entire week.

I saw it 3 times.... once with my wife, a second time with Allie, and a third time by myself.

This film is so much fun to watch--- there's gonna be a drinking game that people are going to play when they view the DVD.

How many Beatle songs, song titles, and Beatle movie references are in this film?

I could not count them all, even after 3 viewings.

Even the dialogue has Fab Four song titles...like when the Liverpool dock boss says "When I'm 64........" or when the lovely Prudence enters the film, and when someone says "Where did she come from?" -- Jude says "She came in through the bathroom window" (I was on the floor LMAO)

The character names, Jude, Prudence, Lucy, etc.....all invoke song titles.

Even key scenes in the film, are re-creations of scenes in Beatle movies, like Hard Day's Night, Help, Yellow Sub, and of course the famous ROOFTOP SCENE in "Let It Be."

as they say, "Third time's a charm" and I watched the entire DVD by myself with a checklist of dozens of Beatle tunes. When I was finished....nearly the entire list had been exhausted.

Each time you watch this film, you'll see something that you missed before.

My friend Ericka (From Las Vegas) loved it. I thought it was going to be that movie "Jumper" the guy started singing and I said, that is going to be a stupid movie, thought it was a trailer, and she said... Ummm Travis, this is the movie. I was strapped in for the entire time though. Honestly the start was okay, but then it just got REAL WEIRD with the drug usage, and the mood. Some of the covers were not to good IMO.

Oh well.

I was wondering the other day out loud what ever became of that film....there was so much fanfare on its arrival then it disappeared very quickly, with no ripples on my radar.

Did anyone notice Salma Hayek and Bono in key cameo roles? They are both hilarious, in their own individual way.

So many great little details...I'll try to shut up now......TMI becomes spoilers.

I am looking forward to seeing the movie on DVD. As for the music itself, I have listened to it and didn't care enough for it to download anything. It's all kind of done in an "indie" style...similar to Snow Patrol and other stuff that is popular now but not my cup of tea.

the s/t wouldn't cut it for stand-alone play---nor does the music for "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" (another DVD that I ended up buying for my collection).

the tunes work great in the context of the movie, although "Blackbird" is ruined because they don't use the famous guitar chords (the ones learned by every acoustic guitar student).

I've heard from several sources that this is a very good movie for beetles fans... for sure I will rent it soon.

Matt,

I just put this movie on my computer (got it through Netflix last week) and have not had a chance to watch it yet because I have been so busy (a little thing called THE STRIKE!!).

I plan on doing a full review of it tomorrow.

Funny Matt.

Actually, Across The Universe was not even the best movie I saw this past week. That honor would go to ...... Amazing Grace.

Review to follow soon.
