The Wizard Of OZ 02-13-2008, 11:56 AM I installed PCDJ Blue on my laptop a few months ago and I had nothing but problems. I assumed the problem was Vista (blame everything on Vista, right?). I tried using their tech support, but still couldn't get it working right. Finally I went to their office and they fixed it, but what do people do who don't live here in my area?
Today I tried to install Blue onto my XP desktop (you're allowed 2 installs) because I gave the laptop to my daughter. Problems again, no Vista to blame this time, the desktop is XP. I updated the program with the latest version from their web site, still won't work right. Every time I try to load a song the program crashes. I called tech support and was surprised when someone answered. After describing the problem he requested that I send him one of my music files. That's where we sit at this time.
What the heck? This is a pain in the anus. I haven't even installed the Karaoke plugin yet.
Jokerswild, please do not post to this thread. Thanks
Most of the guys that could answer your question....are in Vegas this week.
SIDE NOTE: You can program your Control Panel to "ignore" someone, that way you don't have to make statements like the one in your last paragraph, in bold letters.
The Wizard Of OZ 02-13-2008, 02:07 PM I thought I saw that feature, but at the time I couldn't get it to work, I'll have to go back into my account and see how to do that. Thanks DJMC
I went and figured it out, I learned something new, it's a good day.
The Wizard Of OZ 02-13-2008, 02:14 PM OMG, that is so frikken funny. When you ignore someone their posts don't appear anywhere. This is great! This bulletin board software is awesome. LMAO
jfactor1 02-13-2008, 02:48 PM OMG, that is so frikken funny. When you ignore someone their posts don't appear anywhere. This is great! This bulletin board software is awesome. LMAO
What was that? Did you say something? :sqwink: :sqlaugh:
The Wizard Of OZ 02-13-2008, 03:11 PM I just DLed the free Karaoke program from Tricerasoft. I tried it before and it actually looked really good but no sound came out. All my other programs played sound no prob. I looked at ALL of the program controls and nothing. Finally I uninstalled it. I DLed it again and reinstalled it and now it just starts up and crashes within a few seconds. I'm having some bad luck here. What I really wanted was the KJ part of PCDJ and I may try uninstalling PCDJ and seeing if the KJ program will install and function properly without PCDJ.
Bryan Durio 02-13-2008, 03:15 PM Problems like your are why I've used OtsDJ (now OtsAV) since 2003. No crashes, no hiccups, no glitches, just peace of mind!
Mr. K 02-13-2008, 03:21 PM OMG, that is so frikken funny. When you ignore someone their posts don't appear anywhere. This is great! This bulletin board software is awesome. LMAO
Ah, so THAT's why I only see posts from the same 12 people all of the time!
:sqeek:
The Wizard Of OZ 02-13-2008, 04:36 PM Well, PCDJ support had me delete the PCDJ folder in the registry using regedit. I followed the directions to the letter and restarted the PC. The program is still doing EXACTLY the same thing as before. :sqmad: Now they're gone for the day or won't respond to my reply email till tomorrow who knows when???. :sqmad:
I was going to go see about getting a singing gig today and instead spent my time messing with this. Not a total loss, I got to practice some songs. Had a cold for two weeks and it's messing my voice up. At least it's goten me to not smoke nasty cigarettes. This is a good opportunity to quit. Very tough though...
Steve Cie 02-13-2008, 06:59 PM Sorry to hear that you are having such a terrible time with the PCDJ product.
You also mentioned a problem with the Tricerasoft product.
Sometimes, audio programs have .dll that are named the same, yet they are actually different. Causes confusion on the different programs and can cause the application to freeze or crash. I had a similar problem years ago when I was experimenting with different downloaded applications.
Eventually, I removed all of the different programs, cleaned the registry, and re-loaded PCDJ. I used the REd and now the FX versions of their software.
The product works well for me. I have been deejaying with it now for nearly three years.
I learned to never download Windows Updates, and to never go on-line with the PC. No mail. no internet surfing. It is totally dedicated to playing the music, and I have no problems.
You happened to pick a bad week to seek product support for DJ software, as many of the reps from all of the various companies, are in Vegas for the show.
PCDJ has excellent product support, so be patient, and I am sure you will get it all straightened out.
There is a lot of truth to the Vista product causing problems with different software applications. TWe went through the same ritual when we switched from 3.1 to Windows 95, and then to Windows 98, and ME, and ultimately XP.
It's growing pains and it sucks. But it is indeed true.
Usually, based on past experience with operating system changes, the bugs get worked out in a year or so.
Hang in there buddy!
The Wizard Of OZ 02-13-2008, 07:43 PM Well I went to talk to the people about my singing gig anyways and when I got back I had a message from tech support asking about the system tray and what programs are running there. I was surprised they responded so fast, but so far not of much help. I will continue trying on Thursday. I asked them in my email if we could just delete and start over? We will see...
jokerswild 02-13-2008, 09:41 PM I couldn't have answered his question any way....
I'm out... laterz

I use PCDJ/KJ Red when I have to, ( in XP) and it works fine. What's different about blue?
Request Line Productions 02-14-2008, 09:06 PM I'm with Joe. Forget the bells and whistles. My old PCDJ Red (the one without the CD player) is very faithful.
The Wizard Of OZ 02-14-2008, 09:13 PM I'm sure it's a system problem of some sort and since they didn't respond all day today via email I'm just going to go there tomorrow. I'll just have them uninstall and reinstall the program, that should take 15 minutes.
I got autokj/winamp working with my Karaoke files but I can't figure out how to change the key or if you can change the tempo.
I got the Tricerasoft Karaoke player working on my other desktop but it crashes just like PCDJ on this computer. Problems, problems...
jokerswild 02-14-2008, 09:21 PM I use PCDJ/KJ Red when I have to, ( in XP) and it works fine. What's different about blue?
Joe I think your refering to the old Red... it is way different then the Red VRM and Blue VRM...
Blue is the beginer's version
Red is Intermediate
For reference check this out http://www.pcdj.com/products/#software
As for a solution to the original poster I don't know... but if it were me I would goto the PCDJ site and search for any updates they may have and or bug fixes.... then if I couldn't find an answer there I'd visit the PCDJ forums... those guys really know their stuff... and should be able to point him in the right direction... http://message.pcdj.com/

You need to get Pacemaker for Tempo and keychanges it does come bundled with the latest version of autokdj 1.4b at www.7bamboo.com
I know the ins and outs of autokdj as I have worked very closely with it's creator who is Toqer....
I hope you are getting this it could be useful...
The Wizard Of OZ 02-14-2008, 10:27 PM I took you off ignore, it was too difficult for me. I was always curious about what I was missing. LOL
I installed the latest version and don't see where you are supposed to click to change the key or tempo.

I'm assuming you downloaded Autokdj version 1.4b from the autokdj website.. so to activate Pacemaker which if you checked off every option durring the install process you should have it.... go into Winamps Options -> Preferences menu and down in the plug-in section you'll see DSP/Effects... Pacemaker should be located there... Click Configure activate plug-in and you should be good to go... if it doesn't appear there you can always download it from winamps site.... the latest version is 2.1
You'll get a nag screen to registure it but if you want to get rid of it you'll need to goto dro's website and register pacemaker there I think it's like $20.00
Hope this helps
jokerswild 02-14-2008, 10:42 PM BTW - Pacemaker has some limitations.... that are undesirable to me... specifically when you try to change the key up or down by more than 2 the audio gets flacky.... so sometimes doing a tempo change is better even though it will change the speed... the handy thing about pacemaker is with autokdj you can change keys on the fly without messing with pacemakers interface... you'll notice numbers at the bottom of the ML when you are in the Song Entry screen those represent key changes... plus you can set a key change as you are enqueing a singer...
Honestly tho I don't care much for pacemaker and seldomly use it...
The Wizard Of OZ 02-14-2008, 11:07 PM Did what you said and it's working perfect. Thank you.
jokerswild 02-14-2008, 11:17 PM Did what you said and it's working perfect. Thank you.
As always you are welcome.... I'm always glad to help!
The Wizard Of OZ 02-15-2008, 01:40 PM Here's is how PCDJ technical support works.
1.They try to figure out what's wrong after you tell them your problem.
2.They send you an email.
3.If that didn't resolve the problem, they try one more thing.
4.Then they ignore you until you go away.
I bought legitimate copies of PCDJ Blue and the KJ program off Amazon.com.
I registered on their forums and just posted a "help me" thread, hopefully this will get me some information on how to fix the problem.
jokerswild 02-15-2008, 01:41 PM Try their forums... you might have better luck.
Which version of PCDJ Blue do you have.... I'm assumeing you have the VRM version.... which is the version I have....
Does it crash everytime you load ANY song or just a particular song.... is it hapening when you load a playlist in manual or auto mode... please be as specific and detailed as you can because I'll load up pcdj back onto my machine and see if I can duplicate your actions.
The Wizard Of OZ 02-15-2008, 06:35 PM PCDJ or the KJ standalone program crashes when I try to load ANY song. Windows media player doesn't crash. Quintessential player doesn't crash. Winamp with the autokj plugin works. I have Ultramixer, it plays music just fine. The Trikaroke program from Tricerasoft is doing the same thing as PCDJ, it closes as soon as I load a song.
jokerswild 02-15-2008, 06:41 PM In PCDJ does it crash when you load just regular music or just karaoke?
Precisionpower 02-15-2008, 10:26 PM Are you sure your machine has enough juice to run all of those programs???
I ran PCDJ RED for 2 years, with no problems. BUT i also over built the machine, and never had it online, i used it for playing music only.
I believe the older pcdj programs are resource hogs, and possibly your machine isn't up to snuff.
A friend of mine had his on a lappy he used for work, (graphic design) etc...
His crashed all the time..................
Just something to think about.
Scott Hanna 02-15-2008, 10:41 PM i bought a copy of pcdjfx with karaoke years ago when it first came out. At the time i was running ots and sax and dottie. i thought it would be so cool to be able to do it all in one program. I got the "pre-release" price of $249 i think.
Never used it at a gig. it crashed on a regular basis on the same computer that ran ots and sax at the same time. Support just kept telling me there was something wrong with my computer. Some say they eventually got the kinks out, but i like ots because they make it super stable before its ever released.....even though they always get slack from people because they dont release stuff fast enough
about 5 computers later i am still running ots and sax.

Concur and confirm that to be a fact. However, Joker informs me that the new versions (Red & Blue) are very much different than the original Red, which I run as well ( after upgrading my laptop big time). I don't know if the new versions are as bad. Then again, he's running a lot in that machine....
