DJ Gray 02-19-2008, 12:20 AM I have been watching and learning from threads on mixing, and not fully understanding what was being discussed, or maybe I do.
So my question is what software, or techniques do you use when you blend 3 or 4 songs into a mix, or join these songs together in a medley, with the proper blending and making it seamless? Adding intros and setting fade outs....
Help Please?
Jon Tuck 02-19-2008, 12:58 AM Im also interested in this as I was tied up with the Academy when a seminar was dealing with this.
nextgen1 02-19-2008, 01:31 AM Adobe Audition 2 it works great for me. It's not cheap but good stuff never is. When you can edit the files and add effects it can be cool.
djMarco 02-19-2008, 05:21 AM Dj Gray:You have a lot of softwers which can do that.
-Adobe Audition 2 (before Cool Edit Pro)
-Sony Acid
-Cakewalk:Sonar,Project 5v2
-Steinberg Cubase SX,Cubase 4,Nuendo
-Digidesign Pro Tools...
You can use any Music Production program to do that
I hope i helpt a bit.
DJ Cam 02-19-2008, 06:26 AM I would be more than happy to go over many options when it comes to mixing.
Maybe we can setup a chat discussion or a phone session.
If you give me a bit of time I can put a few things together such as mash-ups, custom remixes, beat mixes and editing.
Jon Tuck 02-19-2008, 06:58 AM Im hoping to extend songs and make remixes different beats etc.
Thanks Cam!!!
djMarco 02-19-2008, 11:41 AM Jon you can make this thing in almost every Dj program.

I would love to learn Cam, let me know when you have some time, and we can get on msn messenger chat. One of the mixes I saw here lately that I really would like to learn is beat mixing old songs to new songs with same bpm.

which Sony Acid would do the trick
DJ Sue 02-19-2008, 09:26 PM Sound Forge
Jon Tuck 02-19-2008, 09:56 PM Sue is sound forge old geezer friendly?
DJ Sue 02-19-2008, 09:58 PM pretty much so. I use it mainly for correcting sound on my music files....haven't gotten much into the remixing end with it, but it will do it.
DJ SVO 02-19-2008, 11:29 PM Sound Forge let's you do a lot of things to your music files be it extending them, cutting them sort, make a splice between songs that match perfectly, the possibilities are endless.
djMarco 02-20-2008, 12:06 PM Barry:which Sony Acid would do the trick?
I think all Sony Acid versions.Only the home edition or something cant do the job.
Kreation 02-20-2008, 05:33 PM I'd rather do it live, thats how I got my name
Jon Tuck 02-20-2008, 06:08 PM I do as well my KReative friend. However I want to make extendeds and also alter Drum, beats etc.
djMarco 02-21-2008, 07:27 AM JON:
I do remixes for years(about 12)and its a Mine digger job.First you must cut off the whole bass and drum line. You can do that in many ways.Than you must cut off the high line(hi hats...).When you do that you need too clear the vocals(with EQ,denoiser...).when you finish that you need too make the whole new song and mix it with vocals.
Thats only the short story. There is a lot more job to do.
Thats the way i do the remix.(if i understand you what you will do,if not sorry to write all this).
Hope i helpt a bit
DJ Gray 02-21-2008, 12:42 PM I was thinking of also using it to edit "live" vocal recordings....would the Adobe Audition be the one? I notice they have edition "3", anybody used this newer version?
djMarco 02-21-2008, 01:27 PM No and i dont know the difference Im a Cubase4 guy.
Jim:The answer to youres question is YES.You can do that in Adobe Audition2.You can record vocals in every multitrack music softwere.
DJ Gray 03-02-2008, 02:09 AM I've been comparing the various programs. Down to two the Sony Sound Forge, and Adobe Audition 2.0 & 3.0.
The Sony Sound Forge has 2 different programs, the Sound Forge Audio Studio @ around $50 dollars. Also The Sony Sound Forge 9.0, at around $250. Which one do I want? I tried comparing them and they look similar, but the Sound Forge 9.0 having more effects processors and multi channel ability. Do I need the more expensive version?
As for Adobe Audition 2.0, and 3.0 I could not understand what the differences are between the 2 versions? Do I need 2.0, or 3.0...or do I need something this involved to do some mixing and effects processing of MP3's that I have made from live recordings?? Or would the Sony Sound Forge Studio @ $50, do the trick?
Travis B 03-02-2008, 03:40 PM I am a firm believer in Audition. I still use its predecessor Cool Edit which was bought out by Adobe.
flipper06 03-07-2008, 11:39 PM Hey guys,
I have been wanting to buy a program that can do the same thing. The only difference with me is i also want the ability to record and edit vocals (for first dance intro's at weddings, where the bride has a personal message to the groom mixed into their first dance). So which program is the "best" for all of the above including extending and remixing songs? The one everyone has told me that is good is Adobe Audition, but i am also not very computer savvy.

Thats what I will be doing also.......for someone who does not do weddings, I have 4 scheduled for the summer. just from family and friends.....
I've been running the trial programs for Sound Forge Studio, Sound Forge 9.0, and Adobe Audition 3.0....at this point I'm leaning towards Adobe Audition 3.0. It's expensive $350......but it's far more comprehensive and detailed than the other two.........also there is a tutorial available online that supposedly is well done, $50.....
it is going to take some time to become proficient with this program, but it will do all I need to do in the mixing and live sound editing I plan on doing this summer.......
Jon Tuck 03-08-2008, 04:17 PM keep us posted and let us hear some smaples Jim Im truly interested in this. Having devoted my seminar activity mostly to Bens Academy I missed one seminar on mixing editing etc mp3 files that I would love to get any notes on. Did anyone go to that seminar?
djMarco 03-10-2008, 09:51 AM My computer for music production and Remixes:
Intel Core duo 2.0
2x250GB hard drive plus 750GB externall hard drive only with loops and sounds
Digidesign 001 sound card
AKG studio mic
Softwere:
Cubase 4 as prime and only audio softwere and Rewire too:Reason 3.0,Fruityloops 7.0 and Ableton Live 6.0(Its audio prog. too but in Cubase its much easyer too work)
I slice the song in Cubase and remove the music.Than make a new arangment mostly in Reason and some sounds comes out from Fruityloops and Ableton Live.Thats the way i do remixes.
And not too forget:
M-audio Oxygen V 2 keyboards with 25 and 61 keys.
DJ Gray 03-14-2008, 02:19 AM Well I have not been on much lately.........I have been spending 10 - 14 hours a day playing with the "Adobe Audition"...3.0 What a program.
As some of you know I have an extensive library of older music, and some (most) I will not play because of the Pop, Crackles, Hiss...You name it; but now I have made some incredible mixes of some of the older files, including some old country music ....ie.....Faron Young, Webb Pierce, Hank Sr., Slim Whitman, Jim Reeves, Ernest Tubbs...and I can go on and on...what a God send this program is, and I still don't know 1/10th of what it can do.......??
The clarity and separation on the tracks is exceptional....
It is expensive...right around $350...their is a tutorial on E-Bay for $44...from a guy who says He can teach you enough in 4 Hours, to master a good amount of the program....
I'm Sold...??
Jon Tuck 03-14-2008, 02:30 AM Good Deal Jim glad your having a go and figuring it out. Keep us posted I guess theres hopes for me to figure out how to make remixes.
DJ Gray 03-14-2008, 02:34 AM Well it takes just playing with it, there is an on board help index; but time is the essential ingredient..... and lots of it....!!
