It started with the Ballad of Curtis Loew in the last few days. I have this as a Karaoke track and I liked the sound of the music so I listened to the song over and over and have fallen in love with Lynyrd Skynyrd again. The Ballad OF Curtis Lowe is one of their best songs IMO.

I've been practicing this song so I can perform it and I found it difficult to learn and sing, maybe it's just me. The lead singer Ronnie Van Zant who died in a pane crash in 1977 did an amazing job with this song.

So after loving Curtis Loew I decided to listen to some other Lynyrd Skynyrd songs and man they were such a great band with a bunch of great songs and they were terrific musicians. Then on youtube you wander around from related artist to artist, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Dr. John, Stevie Ray Vaughn and on and on...

I don't know how much of this type of music is suitable for DJing or for weddings, but man I just dig listening to it so much. The blues just makes me feel so much emotion, it really speaks to my soul.

My son, who will be 13 this weekend, heard this on the car radio one day and fell in love with it. So much so that at his guitar lesson the next week he asked his teacher if it could be the song he learned that night. He's only been playing since Christmas, but has practiced it so much that I now feel like I have Lynyrd Skynyrd playing live in my house. Makes me proud that he loves something that has been around so long.

It's a shame there has been so much infighting among the surviving members of the band. Ronnie's brother was amazing in taking his place on vocals. Southern rock should live forever, IMHO.
