Here's an article from ZDNET that has info if you are one of those not served by satellite or cable.

I'm suprised that many of you haven't chimed in on this one
We do know how this is going to affect us as professionals, don't you?

Anything wireless like microphones may be FUBAR after this happens. At this moment no one knows for sure what's going to happen.

The only thing I do know is the AM & FM Radio conversion to digital is next and stations are already starting to broadcast in HD which standards for Hybrid Digital, NOT High Def! Hybrid Digital is the starting point of going from analog to digital as it is a HYBRID system that works with both until such time as analog radio goes bye-bye.

Does this effect people like me, who don't usually watch TV...? :sqlaugh: :sqwink:

I think the whole microphone thing is overblown, BTW. It's not going to affect most people, unless yer outside, in an urban environment...

As I understand it, the wireless mics that operate in the 700 MHz range will still continue to work as always. There is a good chance that they'll no longer be legal to use, though because they could interfere with DTV transmissions.

I dunno about you'ns guys but I don't wanna give up my 700 MHz Shure 58 that transmits through thick brick and block walls with no drop out. :(

As Doug mentioned, it ain't all carved in stone yet. The FCC still has some work to do. Shure and others are lobbying them to get some manner of satisfaction.

So far, HD radio is not as easily received as analog. You either get it or you don't. If broadcasters wish to seriously compete with sat radio, they're gonna have to do better with HD radio signals than they're currently doing.

hmm so if you use a 700 mhz mic illegally and illegal downloads will it then be the proverbial two negatives create a positive?
