DJ Cam 02-22-2008, 04:22 AM I always sell things to customers before I buy them... Bad Habit.
Anyhow I need 2 light I can have custom gobo's made.
I would prefure they be flat mirror scanners as I allready have moving heads picked out.
I need suggestions and cost of the cusom gobos.
I am selling this with my $200 add on lighting package and charging $200 for the custom gobos. So at a $400 upsale it does not have to be a cheap solution but reasonable.
I am hoping to spend $1000 for the 2 lights. If it's more I will rethink my flat mirror scanner purchase as I intend to buy 4 flat mirrors and 2 moving heads very soon.
djMarco 02-22-2008, 04:54 AM I alwais wish too have own Gobos and never comes to that.I sell the lights and forget until you remember me.Hmmm strange i want my lights back.
Cam:What is on youre gobos?
sparkieg 02-22-2008, 08:22 AM Cam - what's important to remember about using gobo's, is the length of time you want to use them. If they are going to be used over and over again and for lengthy periods of time (such as projecting a business' name on a surface) I would consider glass gobos that can be manually interchanged. They don't hold heat as long as metal gobos do, and last longer (usually). Glass gobos are more delicate than metal so require special handling.
If you are going to be using them for projecting the names of Brides n Grooms, then several factors need to be considered.
1) Glass gobos would be cost prohibitive over metal gobos. Since you would most likely be using them only once, metal gobos would be the ticket.
2) Heat - metal gobos have a tendency to get very hot and can sometimes warp if the designs are intricate. Again - using them only once, the cost factor comes into play.
I hope these points have helped.
djMarco 02-22-2008, 08:27 AM Greg:What about Alu gobos?
sparkieg 02-22-2008, 08:55 AM I suppose aluminum gobos would be alright, but they are much more fragile than metal. They are also more expensive.
djsarge 02-22-2008, 09:39 AM I have a Martin PR-1 . You can get two of these fixtures for about $800. Metal Gobos from Apollo run about $80 a piece I believe and turn around is great!!.
I believe the Martin SCX 600 and SCX 700 have interchangeable gobos. Not sure their price.
DJ Cam 02-22-2008, 01:58 PM I plan to use metal Gobo's for Bride and Groom's names.
I'm hoping someone can chime in and tell me a few lights I can use as well as where I can order the gobos.

While a good idea I want to have 2 of my scanners beaming the names around the dancefloor.
djMarco 02-25-2008, 10:32 AM Cam:That with Name gobos will be nice or in other words-good idea!

Cam, buddy -
For that to happen, you're going to have to invest in something along the lines of what Sarge mentioned before. The Martin fixtures with the moving mirrors accept interchangeable gobos.
The best thing to do would be to ask Ben. He's a dealer for Martin.

Hopefully he feels better and will chine in. I need to know what lights to buy and where i can ordfer the gobos on a regular basis.
djsarge 02-25-2008, 09:09 PM Ben at NLFX can handle both for you.
maestro 02-25-2008, 09:53 PM I would use the moving heads you ae planning on purchasing, just make sure they take custom gobos and you're good to go!
BillESC 02-27-2008, 11:43 AM Chauvet's Intimidator Spot 2.0 HTI has interchangeable gobos and has a MAP of $ 549.99
It will accept both steel and glass gobos.
DJ Cam 03-04-2008, 03:58 AM I am still waiting for any info.
Can anyone confirm if Martin SCX-600's will do what I need?
Are there any other flat mirror scanner options at a lower price point?
I can get a pair of SCX-600 for around $700
maestro 03-04-2008, 04:17 AM I believe those take a fairly small gobo, so you may be limited in what you can put on there.
Bill, what about those Lynx moving heads you were always talking about?
DJ Cam 03-04-2008, 08:10 AM I think I am set on the 2 options:
Chauvet Intimidator Spot 2.0 --- $370 each
Eliminator Hulk 150 --- $350 each
I sent an email to a custom gobo manufacture to confirm they can provide me with gobo's.
Can anyone offer opinions on either?

The Lynx 150R would certainly work for the application.
