Silly Color Palette Question?

Why would they put the controls on the top of the unit if it's going to be flown this makes it difficult to change the auto modes if not using a controller...

I plan on hanging mine so it would seem I need to set the program before raising the unit.... is that right?

I could hang it upside down so that the controls face down but then the labeling that would face the audience is upside down and while I suppose when it's dark it wont matter but it don't look right to me...

Thoughts?

I am not understanding your question. What is make and model of light?

General answer is: Sometimes manufactures do dumb things.

The Color Palette is by Chauvet (sp?).... and unlike it's ADJ counter part the Mega Panel it has a branding label on the front...

I can understand the power cord and dmx connections on the top of the light but the controls would make much more sense if they were on the bottom... for easier access when mounted up on a light stand.

I guess in the end it really doesn't matter cause once I get a DMX controller I wont have the need to change the program settings on the fly at the unit....

Don't you love it when you answer your own question in a post before anyone else has any input?

I have done that quite a few times.

Second Color palette on its way.....

Now I just need to get my hands on a DMX controller and I'll be ready to rock...

I wonder if I will need a terminator.... I will be connecting the two color palettes and my vue III to a controller adventually....

Thoughts?

I have 4 colorsplash, 2 ADJ concept 2s, 2 Novascan 250s, and a ColorPalette. The setup is controlled with the Chauvet wireless DMX reciever, and I don't see an issue when running with or without a terminator. The entire cable run is less than 12 feet from reciever to last fixture.

I am waiting on a second color palette to replace a faulty color strip.... They will be side by side under my mirror ball where my strobe used to be, each set at a slight angle to gain wider coverage.

I run my setup from Light Jockey's computer software with the USB DMX dongle. Haven't had the need to mess with the controls on the colorpalette itself, but I do agree the branding makes it wierd to hang upside down. I wonder if the frame can be rotated???

I've actually considered spray painting over the Chauvet logo... but when the light is on, you can't really see it. They designed it to have the controls come out the top so the wires don't hang down in use.

If you really need them upside down, wire tie the cords to the handles so they don't hang. Really, once you set the addresses and mode, you don't need to mess with it any more.

Yeah I figured that's why they logo'd it the way they did... and it makes sense too....

I have a controller on the way so yeah it really makes no difference
