I consider a Mac as a play toy..... that masquerades as a computer. But, that's just my opinion.

This is manly due to the lack of software support from the major's. I wouldn't ever get a mac no matter how thin the damn thing is....

When compatibility is 100% I will run the mac OS system on a non over priced machine.

I can buy a pc will better specs than a mac for 1/2 if not 1/4 the price of buying a mac off the shelf.

Overpriced? Maybe not shure. But im shure that some China computter can not be better as computter made in USA.

Well OS X is better than windows.. No contest. It now supports much more business type software as well.

Plus the one's that are built with intel chips will run windows with absolutely no problems.. The downside is then you are switching back and forth between the two *plus you still have to shell out $89-250 for an OEM version or more for retail*

The biggest mistake that Mac made with it's computers is not allowing other people to build them, thereby making them more expensive. If they had gone the route that IBM had went, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Microsoft would now be making software exclusively for the Mac.. *plus they wouldn't keep releasing buggy, crappy versions of their own OS* :)

just my two cents

It's simple really...

OSX for girls, and Windows for guys :sqlaugh:

From a programmers standpoint: OSX (or any Unix variant), cannot hold a candle to the Windows API, driver support, etc.

When 95% of the people on a given planet, use a certain operating system, you are going to have more viruses, spyware, et. al. It has nothing to do with the OS itself, just statistics -- and a myth that Apple creates. I give Mr. Jobs credit for his marketing savvy... ;)

Oh come on Rick OSX is awful purdy. :D

It really depends on what you want to do with the computer. If you're happy with Mac's core set of applications, web browser, email, instant messenger, and MS Works like suite go for it. With tools like Parellels you can run Vista right inside of OS X almost like it's just another program so you can run most Windows apps on a mac.

For me, I like versatilely I like a computer that I throw any piece of hardware in or any piece of software on. That's a PC. Plus for what you'd spend on a purdy mac you can get a whole lot more PC for. :)

Mac offers a great image managing machine. Before image managing and printing became all DIY, photography and print shops used Mac machines almost exclusively. Macs were doing photo-quality work long before anyone heard of Paint Shop Pro or Pinnacle.

Also, all the schools used Macs for student training back in the '80s. Macs were cheaper and harder to eff up than DOS-based or IBM machines at the time. Macs didn't become outdated every month or so, either. Only drawback to this was ~ most keyboarding teachers had never used Macs before so you had to train the trainer.

The only format I've ever worked with is the DOS-based PC or IBM. I have never used a Mac so I can't say which is better. What I have works. I can say that. :)

I agree completely!!!

Whenever I have some numbskull come up to me complaining because I am not "buying American", I just look at him and say that as soon as American plants stop paying the janitor $20 an hour just because he is part of the union, I will consider buying American. Until then, I am going to buy what I think is the best value, be it German, Iraqi, North Korean or Russian.

I don't care where it comes from or who makes it, as long as it is a quality product at a reasonable price.

You want to buy American? Go right ahead, but just know you are paying extra because of the Unions.

Now, in regards to this thread, I have never come across one Mac/Apple product I could stand.

Bash Gates and Microsoft all you want, but I honestly have never had one issue with any product I have bought from them.

i will continue to use PC's until Mac's come down in price but as far as reliability, my ex brother-in-law has used a Mac religiously for the past 10 years without it EVER crashing the machine or programs he uses even ONCE. I can't say I know a single PC user who can claim the same thing, including myself.

I usually have to re-load programs several times during the day when I'm working on several things at once..

Sorry, but I am completely soured on Apple products when I went through 4 Ipods in the matter of 6 months, each one with a completely different problem. The customer service for Apple is just horrible, and they never once could give me a straight answer as to what the problem was. The last one died 2 hours after taking it out of the package. I demanded my money back at that point (and it took about an hour phone call to high level support to get it back) and swore off Apple since then.

In regards to crashes, I can tell you that I have had my desktop for going on 6 years now (is it running Windows 98) and I have never once had it crash in any form.

My 2 laptops (one is about a year and half old, and the other I have had for about 3 months) both have XP on them, and same thing, never crashed or locked up at all on me.

Ok,I find this on internet but here is short version:

Best computer Brand which people trust:
1.Dell
2.Apple
3.Toshiba
.....

So i do a little resarch and find out that in this order are theyre top of the line Laptops price on market.
And now back to theme.
If i buy a Mac I become OSX for free(instaled). If I upgrade with iWork cost me about 100$-right?
If i buy a PC i maybe become some Vista Home edition but this version is not near OSX system. So i must buy Ultimate version which cost me 200$ and i must buy Office which cost me about 200-300$ more(because i need it). From this point of wiew Mac seems not to be so pricely anymore.Am i right?

You do not need to spend on extra 200-300 for Office.

You can get OpenOffice.org (which does EVERYTHING office does plus much more) for free.

My brother has been a dedicated Mac fanatic since the late 80s, and based on his experience, Macs can be just as troublesome as Windows machines. He's had to wipe drives and reinstall the OS many times in the past 20 years! Same for individual programs.

And he's gone through several iPods and iPhones too...

Ah, the Mac vs PC or OS X vs Windows debate has been going on all sorts of forums for eons. Back in the day the debate raged on over Usenet (Newsgroups) Then of course you got the other guys like Doug and I who lean on the side of Linux. :)

At the end of the day it's all about you. What OS you're most productive with and what OS you feel comfortable with and enjoy.

User Interface wise, OS X has it hands down, I think they always have. For maximum compatibility Windows has it hands down. For the price conscious, Linux has it hands down.

That being said no matter what computer you decide on there are plenty of open source (free) programs out there for all of them. You can save your self the cost of iWorks by using the Mac version of Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org) or it's fully Mac ported cousin, Neo Office (http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php). From what I've read the only difference between the mac version of Open Office and Neo Office is that Neo Office is fully aquaified (tied into OS X's aqua interface). This suite of programs both opens and saves in all MS Office formats so you can save yourself a few hundred there.

Other than that there are tons of free programs out there for the Mac, come across them alot and I'm not even looking. :)

In my house there are 3 dell laptops, 2 desktop PC's, a MacBook and an iMac. I am constantly fixing the PC's and there seems to always be a broken down machine somewhere. It is to the point that everyone is fighting over the iMac all the time because it always works. The MacBook is mine so nobody else touches it. The only Windows machine that works well is my wife's Dell laptop that I got her for christmas, it is also the only one loaded with Vista. I have never had to fix my Macs in the 2 years I have been using them but I make sure to back up my PC's once a week due to previous experience. I still use my main desktop PC a lot for everyday stuff but for any real work I prefer my Mac. Just my two cents and i'll probably get change back.

Would buy a Mac in a heartbeat, wanted one for years, but just havent broken down and purchased one yet....all my friends are going mac..I think thats my next purchase.

From personal experience, Dells are Crap...never had nothing but problems with them. Have returned them 4 or more times under warranty. The next time one breaks, I'm taking the info off them and out to the garbage bin it goes.

I personally own 2hp laptops, 2 compaq laptops, 2 dell laptops, one emachine lapttop and one hpdesktop...out of that one 3 stay home. The rest are on the road. Guess which ones are home lol...the pieces of crap.

Now if they can give me an awesome program to work with (that wont crash...) I'm sooo mac.

The thing with Dells ~ they're pot luck. One might be great, another might be a POS.

To keep their costs down, Dell uses OEM components in off the shelf machines. One can pay a bit more and cherry-pick components but most puter buyers don't do that.

I have 2 Dell Latitudes, and they are the cat's meow :)

One sits under my desk closed (it's attached to an external monitor and keyboard/mouse). It has only been turned off twice in the last 3 years ;)

The other was a Vista Beta tester (courtesy your tax dollars, for my "extra" gov't work), and is flawless as well.

YMMV, but my experience has been excellent with the Dells (and I have a few Toshiba's that work almost as good as well, but are a bit heavier).
