Gels?

I have some old gels for my par 38s and they are quite thick. I just got some Rosco gels and they are very thin, I like the thick ones better. I thought Rosco was supposed to be the best? Can someone tell me which ones are thicker, more durable or maybe just explain the different types of gels in detail. Thanks!

I got a wireless connection and I'm on a stage behind a closed curtain until the dancing starts, which should be soon.

I knew you didn't have any input on the gels... lol

Lee gels are very good as are Rosco. The thickness of the gels depends on if they are diffusion gels or clear gels. Diffusion gels do exactly what their name implies - they diffuse the light produced through them and are usually thicker than regualr clear gels.

I know that Rosco's sampler swatch that I get from my lighting dealer has several thicknesses of gels included. It most likely has to do with the application, the color temperature and the actual color.

Hope this helps, Steve.

For those of you who don't know, I am a certified goldsmith by trade so I happen to have a few fine measuring instruments lying around... I pulled out my micrometer and measured the thickness of the gel samples from the two books that I have and this is what I found for regular colored gels.

Rosco: 0.04mm
Apollo: 0.08mm

Apollo gels are twice as thick. Just a little FYI...

There is more than one rosco line. Roscolene and Roscolux are the color and diffusion series and will differ in thickness. There are also HT filters for High heat lamps. Don't use a diffusion filter if you want to preserve the "spotlight" characteristics of your lamp.
