Welcome mckyj57Bill Hollick 03-30-2008, 02:30 PM Welcome mckyj57, OODJT is the best place on the web for DJ discussions. Visit us often. DJ JohnThe1 03-30-2008, 02:58 PM Welcome to the board. DJ SVO 03-30-2008, 03:43 PM Welcome!!! mckyj57 03-30-2008, 04:12 PM By way of introduction, I will tell you I am 99.5% karaoke. I never sang prior to 3 years ago, shortly after I turned 50. Of course I sung the Star Spangled Banner, my school fight song, and Happy Birthday. And as a kid, and once a year around the piano. But I never sang in choir or did music in any organized or serious form. Still, when I did sing people often said "you have a pretty good voice". I quit smoking for a year about 20 years ago. During that time we did our annual piano sing-along, and my father's best friend said "I didn't know you could sing that well". He had been next to me the previous ten years doing the same thing, and then I realized my voice was stronger now that I had quit smoking. Alas, I started smoking again and thought little of it. I don't drink any more and haven't for a number of years, and I never went to bars. So unaccountably I had no idea what karaoke was until April of 2005. My uncle died and at the memorial we went to a restaurant that had karaoke. I got up and sang, and had a good time. Shortly after that, I quit smoking and decided I would start singing as an incentive to not start smoking again, as it would weaken my voice. There are few things more dangerous than a middle-aged man with a new hobby. Three years later, I have enough live sound gear to run three simultaneous gigs, an 8,000 song karaoke collection, and I do amateur karaoke gigs for state parks, service clubs, and churches. I get asked to do weekly gigs quite often, but can't because I have other responsibilities. So here I am. I *am* still an amateur spending my own money for stuff, so I haven't gone top-of-the-line. My main setup is: Behringer PMH-3000 main mixer Behringer EP2500 amp Peavey PR-10s and PR Sub --OR-- Behringer B1520 mains Lexicon MX200 effects BBE 482 Ultragraph Pro 1502 Eqs (two) Behringer CX3400 active crossover Behringer MDX1600 two-channel compressor Shure SM-58/Senn. 945/Audix OM-2 wired mics Shure Beta-58/Senn. Freeport/AKG WMS40 wireless mics Kustom KPC-10 monitor speakers Dell laptop with CompuHost I also have another setup with a Yamaha MG124C mixer, B212A powered speakers, and Alesis Nanoverb effects. And a third setup that is portable for carrying on trips, Behringer PMH518M powered mixer and Kustom KPC10 speakers. I also run MTU Hoster on my desktop computer -- I can't put out multiple rigs, of course, since I only have one set of disks. I spend a good amount of time on karaoke-forum, and I have considered writing my own Linux hosting system. Probably not, though, as I would have to dedicate huge amounts of time to it and I would rather sing and run my business. 8-) I am glad to be here! I don't know that much, but I am learning fast and sometimes I will talk like I know something. Be patient -- I am a work in progress. Kirby Ball 03-30-2008, 10:43 PM Greetings and Welcome aboard!
