WaydeWest 03-30-2008, 03:36 PM I've never been happy with the colors I used on my website. I never thought they were good wedding colors, and I was just never able to come up with another combination that seemed to work. Part of the issue was getting the color to look right in the "satin" banner on top of each page.
So, out of nowhere this weekend I started toying with some options again and came up with a teal and brown scheme that seems to work. I'd like some opinions on the colors, as I know the brown will render differently on different monitors.
Here is the current color scheme...

Here is a static mock up of the potential new color scheme...

Thanks for you feedback.
Brian Martin 03-30-2008, 03:59 PM I kind of like the current colors, but it is hard to judge the new color scheme without seeing the final product. Either way, the site looks good.
Karl Langford 03-30-2008, 04:11 PM I like both colors but too me the change should come by way of getting rid of all the white. Either put something there or change the background to a faded shade of the same color you choose.
Could you enlarge the part that scrolls any? Make it cover more space and get rid of some of the white.
Wavy Davy 03-30-2008, 04:24 PM Wayde I'm sort of into orange and blue and off the wall web 2 colors these days - I think they stand out from the crowd...
Anything different than everyone else is good - I have a site for SEO for Auto Dealers here that I wanted to punch the muppets in the face with - What I Do is the message and of course I make a bit from Google with the ads as Auto dealers always click them ;)

I may go with Yellow and Royal Blue for my next site.... Lime Green is a stand out too

WaydeWest 03-30-2008, 04:25 PM The white space is intentional for a couple or reasons. First the design was meant to be Web2.0 and different from others around me, second the layout was designed for an monitor set to 800x600 as I believe this is still in wide use, especially at work where many brides do their web searching these days. Also, the layout works differently depending on your browser. In Firefox and Safari, there is a cool scroll effect with only the center panel moving, whereas in IE the menu on the right floats down as you scroll.
I may do a full page mock up to see how the entire thing looks. Thanks guys, keep the feedback coming.

Those are bold colors but are the wedding friendly? I'm all about being different, hence the non-template look to my site. I just always felt that the pink and blue on my site was kind of obnoxious.
Funny, I was considering lime green and black, with a plastic look for a redesign to my bubble party website.
SoftJock Rick 03-30-2008, 05:49 PM Hey Wayde,
Website colors are key, but you are trying to unlock the wrong door...
Blue (light to medium) conveys a feeling of trust; red (bright), conveys a feeling of excitement.
Don't worry about color coding weddings, etc. -- look at the big picture, in terms of how any Joe or Jane will react to the colors of the site as an emotion...
SEOs haven't quite figured that out yet (where's my beer Davy) ;)

I believe that info may be dated. Not very many use this display anymore.
DJ Young 03-30-2008, 08:36 PM I think the biggest problem is that you spelled colour wrong.:sqwink:

That's just one of the website hits metrics that HitsLink (http://www2.hitslink.com) provides.
WaydeWest 03-31-2008, 12:27 AM So I was talking out my arse about the resolution, it just seems that everytime I peak at somebody's computer in various offices they appear to be set to 800x600.
Having just checked them, the resolution analytics for my site are similar to Bryan's, even when broken down to new visits (of course 1024x768 will be high on mine because that is what my own computer is set to). Hmmm...maybe it's time to do a slight redesign when I change the colors.
Back to topic...anybody else, thoughts on the colors?
