Whitey Ford (legendary baseball player)
Lee Trevino
And not that one would call them famous, but they are very well known here in the southeastern part of the country.......many of the Nascar drivers.
When I worked in North Wilkesboro for WKBC, it was in the 80's before the legendary North Wilkesboro Speedway was shut down.......back in the day when there were 2 major race events held each year. One was sponsored by Holly Farms and the other was sponsored by Lowe's Home Improvement Center. I interviewed several of the drivers on my afternoon shift prior to race day.
These two race events were huge revenue producers for the county, but when Bob Bahre and Humpy Wheeler couldn't come to an agreement on how to use the speedway after those races were moved to larger tracks, the North Wilkesboro facility fell into dis-repair and stands today as a ghost track with weeds starting to show thru the pavement cracks.......
It's actually a very sad sight considering that it's a very historical track. North Wilkesboro was where Nascar got its start.....but I digress - I didn't mean to hijack this thread with a history lesson........:(
i couldnt begin to tell you the stories of celebrities ive met
when i was syndicated on radio aahs we met every potential child star in the world from rick shroeder to fred savage the rockapella people, weird al, yadda yadda. I once interviewed ashley judd when i was in DC she did this number in the chair where she pulled her bras off without taking her shirt off damn i wish she took her shirt off...
hmm im trying to think of anyone i didnt really like.
Jeff Gordon never impressed me from my point days

I work with Ken Block and all the other guys in Sister Hazel on a weekly basis, and they are all just incredibly nice guys.
ask ken if he remembers hawiian kyle shannon and jeff cushman from 98-7 the point in greensboro, im sure he will i introduced him and hung on the bus 3 times at ziggys, and once in myrtle beach. i have one of those unforgettable faces, and dave reynolds could always always always count on me for a sister hazel ad, it didnt get any traction but we added "HAPPY" about 4 weeks early and got on the trade ad for it

B-Sharp 04-24-2008, 04:13 PM Best: Billie "She Wants You" Piper. She never really hit big here, but she's a huge celebrity in the UK now. Runner-up bests: Mya, France Joli, Shaggy, and All-4-One
Worst, by far: KC (of KC & The Sunshine Band). Runner-up worst: Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock.
Papa Deuce 04-24-2008, 04:24 PM Best: Billie "She Wants You" Piper. She never really hit big here, but she's a huge celebrity in the UK now. Runner-up bests: Mya, France Joli, Shaggy, and All-4-One

Wow! I met him and he seemed like a decent guy.
Anyway, you saw my people listed on my other thread, but they are only the ones I am friendly with.
But here are the good ones I have just met. Many are pro wrestlers:
Roddy Piper, Ken Patera, Rob Halford, John Kruk, Robert Hazzard, and the whole band "The Hooters". AC / DC.
The bad:
Ivan Putski ( ruined my childhood memories after I met him ) Paul Stanley from KISS, John Madden ( not so much a bad guy, just snooty ). The only real "bad" one was Putski, a wrestler from the 1970's. The others were "ok" I guess.
The WORST is a Philly TV legend, Larry Kane, who also happened to be good friends with the Beatles.
The "wierdest" was Bob Saget. I actually sold him a camcorder. He kept making poop jokes! But he wasn't a bad guy, just strange.
Jon Tuck 04-24-2008, 04:41 PM Papa Polish Power disturbed your childhood dreams? Care to expound? I too used to watch him and love his gig even saw him at the Eureka California Municipal Auditorium along with the Iron Sheik and Haystack Calhoun.
Papa Deuce 04-24-2008, 04:44 PM I was working "security" at a local event. One of my jobs was to escort the wrestlers out of the building if they wanted to leave. I tried talking to him as I was escorting him and he said "Leave me alone".
That's the whole story. Not much, but since he was a childhood idol, it hurt.
Jon Tuck 04-24-2008, 04:50 PM I sat at a Tom Thumb Convenience Store (Niceville, Florida) with Cowboy Bob and the Iron Sheik in 1979 drinking Beer out of the back of a Root beer Brown Custom Chevy Van. Nicest guys in the world.
Wavy Davy 04-24-2008, 05:04 PM Billie Piper has a lovely pair of natural lips and a lovely bum. Check her out on Dr Who these days.
Harry Casey from KC and the Sunshines??? Damned good bloke - I toured with them in 75 (or was it 74) and had some really cool parties.
Biggest arsehole - the lead singer from Cheap Trick - complaining the stage was too small at my 5 year club job in England. It was my job to let the bands in and look after them which was cool - he was gobbing off and ranting so I said "Look we've sold about 10 tickets we just had u2 and the Clash here why don't you bugger off back to Budokan" - they all left with a little help from the cleaner's mop - dummies......
Madonna was a sweetheart back in 83? The Academy, Bornemouth
The Jam - I helped steal their roadlamp lightshow before they could afford a real one - orange flashing lights and white arc lamps LOL
So many more tales -
Billy Paul and his missus - WELL NICE PEOPLE
Patrick McGoohan - a gentleman and great company (hic)
David Prowse (Darth Vader) gentle giant
Lemmy is great at space invaders but crap at ice skating (stoned)
++++++++++
Ron Auger 04-24-2008, 06:21 PM I was playing with my band (Worcester Fire Pipes and Drums)at a celebrity hockey game sponsored by Denis Leary. We did the opening ceremonies. Off ice I was hanging out with Steve Tyler, Michael J. Fox, Norm from Cheers, The guys from Rescue Me, Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson, Ray Bourque, and lot of other Bruin stars.
They were all pretty cool, signing my drum, talking about my Kilt etc. They were very kind in talking pictures with us. The only @sshole who truly was an @sshole was Dennis Leary. He could be bothered with us. The whole reason he was their was because his cousin was one of the Worcester Six who died in a fire back in 1999. He was doing a firefighters fund raiser. This jackass could be bothered to even talk to the guys who were on the line with his cousin. Leary was so rapped up in himself he ignored everyone of the guys in the band. Oh well, we thanked all the other stars for coming.
While walking around the Fleet Center (old Boston Garden) in our Band uniforms and kilts you would swear we were the celebrities. Everyone was coming up to us, youngsters, adults, saying how they'd rather hear us play then watch the celebrity hockey game. Women were throwing their bra's at us, looking under our kilts, it was mayhem I tell you mayhem. Well maybe not the last part.
Another great group of celebs were the Drop Kick Murphy's. That's right, Bostons own heavy metal Celtic bad boys. My band and I played their encore show on St. Patrick's Day a few years ago. We hung out with the boys before and after the show.
It's not like any of these celeb's would remember any of us but all in all they are just regular folk like us. They just happen to be a whole lot richer and a lot more talented.
djsarge 04-24-2008, 07:46 PM Ron Auger, Alphabet and his wife. :)
Jon Tuck 04-24-2008, 10:08 PM Sarge ya took the font right outta my keyboard. Ron, Joe, Heather and my Blues Revue singing buddy were nearly the highlight of Vegas for me.
patrickrlewis 04-24-2008, 11:40 PM Mark Wills - total complete prick
Phil Vasser - One of the most down to earth guys I have ever met in my life
Travis B 04-24-2008, 11:59 PM Mark Chesnut - Prick
Never met Nelly, but have heard BIG STORIES (Stuff I am sworn to confidence about, until a later date)
Kid Rock - Obviously
Best:
I'll say it again, Tracy Byrd. LOL.
Jacoby Shaddix From Papa Roach (What is it with Papa's) is real cool, got a fan photo with him.
Ron Auger 04-25-2008, 12:21 AM Hey Sarge,
You still got that Banana Hammock I autographed for you? It would have been easier to sign if you had taken it off.:sqeek:
sparkieg 04-25-2008, 01:23 AM Ditto on Mark Chesnutt - can't do a show without getting fall down, stone drunk.
trafficgoo 04-25-2008, 06:56 AM Mark Wills - total complete prick
Phil Vasser - One of the most down to earth guys I have ever met in my life
We had Mark Wills at a lunch time concert for about 100 listeners back in the late 90's. The "married" Mark Wills kept trying to pick up my Asst. Producer at the time...kept pinching her ass, etc.

Well, I think the issue is what did your assistant producer look like? If she it hot, then I see nothing wrong with that, hahahahaha
djsarge 04-25-2008, 08:20 PM Sarge ya took the font right outta my keyboard. Ron, Joe, Heather and my Blues Revue singing buddy were nearly the highlight of Vegas for me.
I used to be scared of Ron, but he is really just a big ole teddy bear.:sqlaugh:
I knew of Ron, Joe and Heather from another board, but was very happy to meet all of them in Vegas. One of the highlights as far as I'm concerned. Especially the Tuesday Morning Marketing Breakfast when Joe mentioned he and Heather had the quickie for breakfast the day before.:sqerr:
WaydeWest 04-25-2008, 11:05 PM Ian Anderson...very nice gentleman.
Then later hung out in a bar with the rest of Jethro Tull, all just great guys.
Bill Clinton...also a pleasure to meet.
Paul Sorvino (pre Goodfellas) and his daughter Mira, long before she hit it big. At the time they seemed like any other family you would meet in your neighborhood.
All of the current (and some legendary) Muppet performers...a strange and fun group that I just love.
Bob McGrath...exactly as you remember him from Sesame Street.
Danny Aiello...great down to earth guy.
There are others I've only seen as guests in various restaurants I've managed. Pheobe Cates and Kevin Kline came in for dinner one night and we all (the guys) wanted to play "Moving In Stereo" over the house PA.
And of course, as you can see from my avatar, I've met Bear In The Big Blue House.
On the bad side...
Rosie O'Donnell...nuff said.
Don Imus...nuff said.

Then later hung out in a bar with the rest of Jethro Tull, all just great guys.
I have a guy at work who is a Jethro Tull freak. Must have seen them 10x at least. Anyway, he met Ian Anderson and said he was a REALLY NICE GUY, but that he won't shake hands with people because he plays violin... "and you never know"....
BTW, How was Bear? He's the coolest!

I've been a Tull fan for a long time. Back when we were in high school, my best bud and I, everytime we saw a ragged looking bearded guy (think the cover of Aqualung) we would say "Hey look, it's Ian Anderson"...so fast forward a few years, I'm walking out of the lobby of WNEW-FM (after dropping off a T&R) and there he is, just hanging out, leaning on the wall waiting for his ride. I walk by and laugh to myself "Hey look, it's Ian Anderson"...I'm in the revolving door when it hits me...HOLY CHIT, that IS Ian Anderson. Haha. I do like three trips around in the door before I decide to go back in and talk to him. Perfect gentleman, great sense of humor.
Bear was fun. I later got to meet the man in the costume along with most of the other Henson Muppet performers. I have other pics somewhere including one with Sweetums.
7500

Bill Kexel 05-12-2008, 01:17 AM I was in the radio business in the 1980s (oldies station)
I met a lot of old rock legends (got voice-overs, photos & interviews with many of them)
Our radio station provided me with the credentials to meet the performers backstage at the concerts.
You young guys probably have never heard of most of these:
Fats Domino
Del Shannon
Tommy James
Wolfman Jack
Dick the Bruiser (an old time wrestler)
Jerry Lee Lewis
Leslie Gore
Carl Gardner (original lead voc with the coasters)
Melvin Franklin (orig. member of the Temps)
Rob Grill of the Grass Roots
Joey Muldon of Badfinger
Johnny Rivers
Wilson Pickett
Ben E. King
Flo & Eddie of the Turtles
Randy Bachman
CF Turner (BTO)
Lou Christie
orig. members of 3 Dog Night
Little Richard
Tommy Roe
Jan & Dean
Martha Reeves
Mary Wells
Chubby Checker
John Kaye of Steppenwolf
And...Jay Leno at the Tonight show, I got to go up on his set & get my photo with him.
These are a few that come to mind
Jerry Lee Lewis was the biggest jerk of them all.
Cap Capello 05-12-2008, 08:50 AM Bill Kexel : I am totally envious of your list, most of them musical heroes from my day.
In terms of the topic, due to my age and a couple of previous careers that lent itself to celebrity encounters, several stand out because of the circumstances, not the person's status.
Shared a Coke with Ersel Hickey;
Had a lunch/sandwich with Joanie Sommers;
Worked as police security (overtime, extra $) in LA at a monthly YMCA dance and this one particular dance they had the Three Dog Nite. It was two weeks before they signed with RCA and they were then national unknowns. They were the first band at this monthly function where the kids sat down and watched/listened the entire time and we had zero problems/incidents.
The one I remember the most, few people will recognize the name(s) and for integrity purposes I'll leave them out. Again, it was the circumstances.
Handling a wedding of a noted NYC Executive Chef, one of the guests was a Federal Judge who had issued an international warrant for Osama BL. In reciprocity, OB Ladin put the Judge on his "kill him and get an automatic free ticket to Heaven" list, the newer muslim monopoly game. The judge had a 24/7/365 government security team of four agents.
One agent was outside front, another outside back, another at the same table as the judge, and a fourth roamed, rarely seen.
During the first dance, one of the caterer's set chefs accidentally elbowed a five foot tall tree of stacked martini glasses which were to be used for seafood cocktails. They came crashing to floor in a mini-explosion of glass shattering.
The table agent dove over the judge knocking him to the floor. The other two agents came flying into the room, weapons drawn, a couple of women screamed, and being to good and wise former cop, I dove under my table for a split second but then quickly recovered enough to pop back up to see what was going on. The first dance music was still playing.
After a quick evaluation and seeing what had happened, the music was placed on pause for a brief second, and even though my heart was pounding from the adrenaline rush, keyed the mic, had enough air to shout "Mazeltov", restarted the song, and everything instantly [almost] returned to normal after getting a huge laugh, then a nice round of applause.
I got a couple of nice "well done's" from the security team which made my day. From the Bride & Groom? Nothing. The judge left early. Probably didn't have a change of underpants with him. I know I didn't either but I couldn't leave.
Bryan Durio 05-12-2008, 10:27 AM Bill... Man, I'm envious of you!
Cap: "former ex-cop"?? I enjoy your musings, but you of all people should know better. ;)
And no, I don't have anything substantive to add to the discussion. I've never met any celebrities. Well, maybe Mark Ferrell or Randy Bartlett!
Cap Capello 05-12-2008, 10:40 AM Bryan: Ooops. Thanks for the catch. Fixed!
djxpress 05-12-2008, 10:41 AM Alot of musicians came by the club back in the mid 80-90s. Hands down the best and the worst were:
Worst - Prince His big security guard came in and demanded the whole back bar for the 4'11" jerk.
Best - RUN DMC They came in one night and very politely came by the booth and asked if they could spin some tunes and borrow a couple of mics. I asked Jam Master Jay which 12" he wanted to spin and he looked at me and said, "it don't matter, any two will be cool". I watched in amazement as he tore it up while Joe(RUN) & Darryl(DMC) walked around the club throwing down the vocals. After about 30 min. they came up and thanked me then left. These guys were pure class...thx
Harryoke 05-12-2008, 12:33 PM Met Jerry Seinfeld right before his star burst open. We were at the same show and he was walking back to his hotel. My brother and I were hanging out with him because there was a limo waiting for a celeb, and we were curious who was going to get in the limo. We waited, and then Larry Bud Melman appeared, LOL. We had a laugh at that then walked Jerry back to his hotel, and my brother and I pressed on.
About the same time we ran into Ed Lover...unfortunately he was holding court with a crowd telling the bad points of white people, so I pressed on...
Bryan Durio 05-12-2008, 02:04 PM Bryan: Ooops. Thanks for the catch. Fixed!
You know I love you, man.

Thanks,
Speaking of 3DN, Have you read the Chuck Negron story "Three Dog Nightmare"?
He was the lead singer of 3 Dog Night, & man, this guy partied!
The stories of the Sex, drugs & rock & roll during their heyday was unreal! It's amazing this guy is still alive. He blew millions of dollars on drugs & living in the fast lane, only to crash & burn.

Hey Bill,
I just recently heard a story about 3 Dog Night that happened right here in town at a particular place, I won't mention the name. They were booked to perform at a private function for a CEO of some major corporation. First of all they commanded $100,000 and actually got it. Secondly, one of the other guys, not Chuck, got ticked off when one of the guests who arrived early asked him for an autograph. He ended up locking himself in the greenroom bathroom for nearly 45 minutes. The staff finally talked him into coming out right before the show was to begin. The show went on, with tension from the other bandmates, but the staff said these guys were a bunch of big babies.
Harryoke 05-15-2008, 11:22 AM Chuck had so much sex, his penis literally exploded...not joking, this is a documented fact. Doctor warned him, but he kept going. I do believe this is also addressed in the book.
Ahhh, the 70s! Remember when safe sex meant an extra pillow for the headboard? LOL.
Cap Capello 05-15-2008, 11:30 AM Thanks, Harry. Coffee spewed all over keyboard and screen!!!

Ausumm 10-26-2008, 10:09 PM fortunately, most of the a**holes never did meet-and-greets.
strangley enough, nicest one by far was Gene Simmons.
the radio folks and our winners were all enjoying the catering after a "sound check" party...when the band strolled into the room.
my wife (who was 7 months pregnant) and I were sitting at a table with some other jocks, deep in conversation, when Gene walked up to OUR table right behind my wife. He stood there patiently, and waited until we were all done with the current discussion...and politely said, "Hello, I'm Gene".
my wife had not seen him standing behind her, so with a look of complete astonishment, she shook his hand and replied...
"uh....yeah...I know"
Esoteric 10-27-2008, 12:47 AM Robin Williams - Great guy
Bono - Kinda creepy
Brittany Spears - Complete airhead
Ani Defranco - Total witch
Bill Gates - Completely aloof
Kevin Spacy - One of the best guys you will ever meet
Garth Brooks - Great, down to Earth guy
Chuck Norris - Nice guy, very polite
The Blues Clues and Cirque De Soliel guys and girls - Awesome people, strange, but awesome
Blue Man Group - *LMAO* is all I have to say
Billy Bob Thornton - Hilarious!
The list goes on and on and on, but these stick out to me. Usually the show sticks out to me more than the artist.
Mike
