If I create a sequence using two fixtures addressed 100 and 117 and then later change the fixture addresses, am I correct to assume that when I run the sequence, the fixtures will NOT respond any longer?
I'm asking because I may place two different fixtures at addresses 100 & 117.

In DMX the placement of the fixtures can be any way you want it. The addressing can be different as well..
Suppose you have this...
(o) = Wash
(x) = scanner
(x)(o)(o)(o)(o)(x) you address them from 1 on up
If you keep the same addressing for the fixtures as above the scene will still work as below.
(o)(o)(x)(x)(o)(o)

okay. Let me try and re-word it.
Let's say I have one fixture and it's DMX address is 100. I create 8 scenes and save it as a sequence/cue.
Now, I change the DMX address of the fixture to 117.
When I run the 8-step sequence/cue I just created, will that fixture respond any longer?

No the fixture will not respond, unless another program is on ch 117

No, they wont respond at a different address.
However, if you programed a 10 ch. one, on address 100, please note it WILL respond if set to 101-109. Why? the instructions are sent to the address whether it is present or not. But if you did change the address in that fashion, it would not change the attributes you wanted more than likely.
In more depth... if you said send value 234 to channel 100 (ex.Red) and sent value 159 to channel 101 (gobo pattern) and then CHANGED the fixture's address to 101, it would pick up the color FROM channel 101, not ch. 100 as you probably would want. It will simply take the "159" broadcasted on channel 101 an use it for the color, meaning you will not get red as desired, but perhaps BLUE.
Hope that makes sense, and these examples were just thought up, not of anything real. DMX values for color and such vary.
But why would you change the fixture #'s?
Just curious...

ryan thanks... I have a hard time explaining DMX to others, maybe it is something that seems so trivial to me idk.

DMX is like DOS someone needs to make a windows for it.
Or I think Manufacturs really need to make programs for people that buy their DMX fixtures.
Or I said this before. Retailers need to put preprogrammed packages together.

trivial for one is Rocket science to another.

I confused myself a little bit when I was writing this :D
Speaking of DMX programs... maybe I could pick up my old "DMX Program" project I had going with the freestylerguide. Now that I have a little more experience in programming, Maybe i should give it a go.
Just so long as everyone enjoys controlling their "little robot slaves" as much as
I do, and hopefully the robots don't reside in a Guitar Center permanently for anyone else.
