hiredpower 04-02-2008, 06:29 PM This is my attempt to modify the brackets of the Colorwash Jr. LEDs to enable uplighting and make clearance for the dmx cables.
I used 1.4 ga. steel and cut it to the correct width (~13/16") and then cut these strips 16 1/4"" long. Then I bent them making a u-bracket that is 5-5/8" long on each side x 5" wide.
hiredpower 04-02-2008, 06:32 PM Next I cut the same ga. steel in ~ 7" x 5 3/4" rectangles. Then, I mounted four rubber feet to the plate.
hiredpower 04-02-2008, 06:34 PM Then I drilled the center holes in the brackets/plate and attached them together with a bolt and nut.... I will use this configuration when I have them inside some 12" triangle truss.
hiredpower 04-02-2008, 06:48 PM I still need to do some finish sanding and paint them black.
hiredpower 04-02-2008, 07:04 PM These mounts will be dual use, so my next step will be making three-sided boxes with a dado cut 1-1/2" from the bottom to slide the plates in.
Stay tuned.
hiredpower 04-06-2008, 09:49 PM Boxes are put together and have a first coat of paint.
hiredpower 04-06-2008, 09:50 PM Painted the brackets/plates and slid one in the box.
hiredpower 04-06-2008, 09:51 PM Here's a top view.
hiredpower 04-06-2008, 09:52 PM I put a notch in the sides for cord access against the wall.
Precisionpower 04-06-2008, 09:53 PM Nice Work!
Looks like a lot of work. You plan on using these fixtures a lot right? its a ton of work for just a job or two but they look terrific. you'd think chauvet would have done something like this already

hiredpower 04-14-2008, 09:00 PM 1cdj,
I enjoy tinkering so it doesn't seem like work to me. I am adding the uplighting and my new truss speaker stands to my first couple weddings to show what this small town DJ is capable of (thanks to Kevin, Steve, Harry and Bill).
Here are a couple pics of my truss assembled without the spandex lighted with a colorsplash jr.
Next I will be cutting and sewing the material to fit.
Papa Deuce 04-14-2008, 10:10 PM I wonder if my Bose would look good on top of that truss! :sqwink:
Of course they would...... they look good everywhere!
NLFX Pro 04-14-2008, 10:52 PM VERY NICE!!!!

Of course they would...... they look good everywhere!
They would look good INSIDE the truss!
anzyxx 04-15-2008, 05:02 PM How high is your truss?
Can you attach 2 of them together and use as a horizontal truss with crank up stands?
I'm working on the same project as well.
hiredpower 04-15-2008, 05:40 PM These truss sections are 6 feet. I am using them vertically, just as you see them in the pictures. Instead of tripod stands, my speakers will go on top of the vertical truss (checkout Kevin Nichols photo gallery).
hiredpower 04-15-2008, 05:44 PM I saw an earlier post about the Colorsplash Jr.s not being very bright. I haven't wrapped the truss with the spandex yet, but I have a sloution if they are too dim.
I'll be mounting some cheap mirrors to the underside of the the top plate with velcro to bounce the light back down the truss. :sqwink:
The Wizard Of OZ 04-15-2008, 07:30 PM It looks great just the way it is even without the spandex!
BillESC 04-15-2008, 07:40 PM These are the bases we use.

There is space under the base for the connection and in and out cableways.
thatmusicguy 04-15-2008, 08:35 PM Wiz - you read my mind!

Yes, I will use them for my speaker stand as well. But I want to be able to use them as horizontal truss attached to my light stands.
I'm thinking about 2 parts, 5 feet each.
Here is a linky to some nice ideas
