Reading some of the posts, I know some people have never done one of these or if your from back east you might use polkas most of the time.
But...here in AZ, this dance is HUGE... I usually use slow songs 3-4 max depending on the crowd...
Here are some of the songs on my list...
My Wish - Rascal Flatts
You've got a Friend - James Taylor
My Girl - The Temps
I'm looking for more song ideas...can you help?

Nope just the polka here. I refuse to do a dollar dance to anything but a polka. It bombs and people don't know what to do.
The last bride that wanted to use something else, her mother and I talked her into the Polka.

Here in Western PA we do a dollar dance at about 75% of our wedding they usually are 20 to 40 min long.
It's great as soon at it starts I head outside for a smoke.

I use a lot of the songs listed above. I try to play slow songs, but sat away from any songs that are on the romantic side. Being in Orlando and doing a lot of destination wedding I will sometimes throw in some Disney songs:
Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Beauty & the Beast
A Whole New World
Etc...

I do these quite a bit too. I like to play songs that aren't to slow and sappy (it get's strange if you play love songs when people are dancing with thier friends and family). I like songs along the line of red, red wine....that type of speed and feel. For me, the dollar dance typically leads into open dance floor. People have been drinking, so I start of a tad slower and work into songs like boogie shoes, September...fun motown to get them in the mood.
Of course all crowds are different.
Being in the south, I have only done this one time, and they were from up north somewhere. They wanted all slow songs, there was a long line so I played about 6 slow songs, they really picked up a bundle.

The dollar or honeymoon dance was a standard in VA. We see it here in DE on occasion. The ticket is long songs or good extended mixes. The longer, the better.
If the bride doesn't mind, we'll use a CD called Lost Megamixes and Medleys. This disc contains extended mixes of Grease, the Beach Boys, Bananarama, Connie Francis and Roy Orbison. Do a search for it at Amazon.
Hope it helps. :)
