How do you register a site name?Abbey Lane 04-10-2008, 05:23 AM How, what and where is the best way to register a website name/address? djMarco 04-10-2008, 05:40 AM You must contact the provider to register the domain. You just Google the best provider for out.For Webs that I do i have a provider and HD space in my Country.Try to do the same. Request Line Productions 04-10-2008, 06:55 AM Here you go: http://lowcostdomains.com/ 1cdj 04-10-2008, 07:46 AM we do all of our hosting www.godaddy.com groovielou 04-10-2008, 08:19 AM Simple, go to the registrar of your choosing, I use: http://www.godaddy.com Type in the name you desire right below the, "Domain Name Search" box Use the little pull down menu if you want something other than ".com" Click "go" If your domain is available, the next page will tell you, and give you step by step instructions how to register it. hint: Domain Registration is $9.99 a year, heres a coupon code to make it $6.95 for the first year, just enter it during checkout and they will take $3.00 off... Groovielou WaydeWest 04-10-2008, 09:26 AM I've moved most of my domains to godaddy.com and now registar any new ones there as well. trafficgoo 04-10-2008, 09:31 AM How, what and where is the best way to register a website name/address? www.Register.com is also pretty good. Travis B 04-10-2008, 10:13 AM There are many sites out there that offer cheap services and whatnot, some are okay and some are decent. We personally use godaddy.com they have they best bang for the buck when it comes to domain names I have heard horror stories of those who have sites with their hosting, in fact clients who even have 1and1 have been permanently locked out of their domains due to not know which credit card was used for the account, they got one of those 10 year domain names. Another was a client who essentially put all their eggs in one basket and used a plethora of resources, godaddy terminated their account, even though they did not reach their maximum quota. We all can be a do it yourselfer, but I highly suggest you find a company that specializes in domain names and web design, and hosting, they know all the tricks in the biz to get it right, not just a guy who says who does websites. Such a company can assist you in getting higher rankings in top search engines (called SEO: Search Engine Optimization) Shameless plug: My company here in town does that specialized web work and domain names as well as offers competitive hosting prices. We do the web stuff during the week, and the DJ gigs on the weekend. We timely answer the phones, as well as, know who our clients are, no looking them up in a database, no authorization codes that are hard to remember. We would love to service you and walk you through getting a domain, even if we do not make any money off of it. PM me or call me this afternoon 409-659-1924. DJ Dan 04-10-2008, 12:35 PM I generally recommend GoDaddy for domain registration overall they're are the best bang for the buck as Travis & Lou put it. If you choose to expand with more domains, you will come to appreciate the features GoDaddy has for managing large portfolio's of domains. A company not to do business with is 1&1. I have my own horror stories to share of them and have heard plenty of others. Whatever domains I have at 1&1, I'm slowly moving away to GoDaddy. Abbey Lane 04-10-2008, 08:37 PM I have my current name through my current phone/internet provider. I usually let them handle everything and pay them $$ per month. I was hoping for something cheaper, but with the problems I read here, maybe I should just sit still. Thanks guys! 1cdj 04-10-2008, 09:36 PM go daddy rocks because its so cheap because we do radio we registered 1stcarolinadjs 1stcarolinadj firstcarolinadjs firstcarolinadj etc because when we tag out it says "www.1stcarolinadjs.com" and i didnt want anyone to have to worry about spelling, anyway i got it all renewed during one of godaddys crazy promo weekends and it was like $10 for everything "cjccrz695" groovielou 04-11-2008, 12:32 AM I have my current name through my current phone/internet provider. Then you are talking about a Domain transfer. Different monster with different (more) steps to complete, but still easily doable. Plus, at godaddy, domain transfers are cheaper. Groovielou Fred Stewart 04-11-2008, 01:49 AM GoDaddy is the Wal-Mart of registrars. It's very easy to work with. Just point and click. If you have a credit or debit card on file with them, it's that easy. :) I recently added a few new domains (nightwolfdj.XXX) and set 'em all up to redirect to our existing company website. Each one also has an email redirect (fred@domain) that goes to my ISP email. If I can do it, anyone can, lol. :D Jeff Romard 04-11-2008, 02:28 AM Netfirms has worked well for me www.netfirms.com djronh1 05-16-2008, 08:53 AM Had Netfirms, service was so-so. Got Dreamhost now. I would recommend them. DJ Wes 05-16-2008, 09:07 AM I use powweb.com. They have 'live' IM-style online help that works great. They host and manage domains. I have three sites with them and even more domains. Jeff Romard 05-18-2008, 04:42 AM Had Netfirms, service was so-so. Got Dreamhost now. I would recommend them. Funny how one persons experience with the same company can differ from another I have had nothing but good fortune with Netfirms Kirby Ball 05-18-2008, 02:48 PM LinkSky here for close to 4 years for domain name and hosting. Never a problem and affordable. Your mileage may vary. | |
