What software do you use?
we use Serato all the way around, it can be a little pricey though so im thinking about letting some of the rookies start out on something else.

DJ JohnThe1 04-10-2008, 11:30 PM Try Rockit. The owner lives here.
I am a Serato lover myself, but I decided to stick to the cd format for my cdj's and will be adding a Denon 2500 for the back up stuff.
If I went didgital I would use Rockit and a good controller.
DJ SVO 04-10-2008, 11:46 PM VDJ and CD's never lose practice with CD's and good old LP's on the turntables.

im probably selling my 2500 to ric. but i had put the serato time code tone on my hd2500 and could run serato as a box system with controller. it worked good and again provided a redundant back up

djMarco 04-11-2008, 05:13 AM VDJ 5.07 user here.I like it because its simple, but i like a lot of programs but this is easyest to use.
BTW-Dont sell the Denon. If you like it you will be buying a new one in a month.
Cap Capello 04-11-2008, 08:49 AM VDJ for music videos, slide shows, ambient video presentations, promotion and Game Show Q&A, and standard audio;
BPM Studio Profi for specialized audio applications, fabulous audio auto-mix features, dual window individual play lists (sure wish VDJ would consider this) and/or quad source mixing.
By using the GigaPortAG with the ASIO drivers allowing four stereo outputs to a mixer (channel 1=VDJ Player A, channel 2=VDJ Player B, channel 3=BPM Player A, channel 4=BPM Player B), both applications can run simultaneously allowing not only to mix within each software program but between software programs as well. The ability to mix between FOUR inputs has potential results a dual-turn table (real or simulated) jock can only have wet dreams about. :sqlaugh:
nextgen1 04-11-2008, 08:50 AM Another vote for OTSAV here also. But I do hear Rick makes a quality product.
djxpress 04-11-2008, 09:01 AM I use OTS and VDJ depending on the event...thx
djMarco 04-11-2008, 09:05 AM I try out also the Ableton Live 6.0.Its a bit more complicated but you can make Remixes on the fly.I think it can play 128 tracks,loops...at once if youre computer can do that.
Dj Tiesto,Sash,BT and many else use this program at gigs.
Randy A 04-11-2008, 09:12 AM Proud RockIt user here.
Bryan Durio 04-11-2008, 09:49 AM OtsAV since 2003, baby! Great sound, great mixing (both radio-style and beat mixing), great search mechanism, exemplary stability.
It also does karaoke and videos, but I do neither.

Steve Sharp 04-11-2008, 12:33 PM Virtual D.J. 5.0.7
I'm old school and want an actual manual, so I wasted a bunch of ink and printed the pdf book. And like a real man, I've never read the thing.
DJSAZON1 04-11-2008, 02:28 PM I use PCDJ and it works great.
Jon Tuck 04-11-2008, 04:51 PM I would love to hear one of your mixed sets I bet they are incredible.I try out also the Ableton Live 6.0.Its a bit more complicated but you can make Remixes on the fly.I think it can play 128 tracks,loops...at once if youre computer can do that.

P@40
Precisionpower 04-12-2008, 02:55 AM Numark Cue (VDJ) for general use, Karaoke, And soon Music Video...
Also have Mixmeister for making different things.
djMarco 04-12-2008, 05:08 AM I would love to hear one of your mixed sets I bet they are incredible.
Jon,
I only try it out and i dont use it.
But its different and werry interesting.Program reckognize the Mp3 file as loop.So when you make a *loop*you can adjust more tracks and play it automaticly in the same beat. You just need to turn volumen at the same or different nivo and Voila thats it.
I realy advice you to download the demo and try it out, maybe you will be impresst.
jkcomputers 04-12-2008, 02:29 PM Traktor 3.3 Here.... LOVE IT SOO MUCH
I can use it for weddings, not have to worry about crossfading (Program does it for me) But when im at the bar or club, I can mix and have a great time...
I have used alot of programs... I would have to say this is my favorite... Seratos good, but you have to crossfade, and need good external equpment, VDJ is good, Just not my favorite, Tired a few other... Still have to look into RockIt... Trisarisoft (I didnt spell that right) has some pretty awsome software... Never did play around with it much... It does everything, Video, KJ, music... and ***** (that is a secret)
smallworld 04-13-2008, 02:17 AM Mixmeister, I like the way it beat mixes for you.Rockit as well for my oldies

djMarco 04-15-2008, 12:45 PM Because of softwere theres no difference in sound. So,Everybody works with program which he/she like more.
DJDJJonathan 04-15-2008, 01:53 PM Virtual DJ for Video's but I stick with the original PCDJ red for one reason.
It's so simple, I can teach a 15 year old to run it, and they can sound professional using it if I need them to.
Bryan Durio 04-16-2008, 10:32 AM Because of softwere theres no difference in sound. So,Everybody works with program which he/she like more.
Actually, which software is used can affect the sound pretty dramatically, especially when DSP is used! There's no question that the mechanics of each software package are different, so ease of use is a big influence on a user's choice. But the reality is that there can be a substantial difference in sound quality, depending on the software.
djMarco 04-16-2008, 11:45 AM Yap, but i try it out a lot(mixmeister, tractor, bpm studio...)and there was no difference at all betwen programs.Mp3 is Mp3 if i talk of the same source.Sound is more depending on sound card and if i can hear the difference betwen softweres i hear it only on studio monitors and not on my actives at the gig.The difference is to small to hear except on a high quality studio or hi-fi speakers.
So was in my case and best sounded softwere was Ableton Live 6,but its more producing program or for remixing on fly.
devilsrule2004 04-16-2008, 12:02 PM numark's cue program.. pretty good.. no complaints.. but could be better... i'd say serato is the way to go
We have a lot of Serato systems here everyone uses it but I was or I am actually thinking about getting something as a back up or for some of my total newbies that's a little less costly. Because of my scrutiness need for uniformality every Serato system we have starts at a minimum of 2k and that's if we go serato, 2 cdj 400s and a numark 5000
We have a couple cdj-1000 serato systems, and my system which is 2cdj 400s and the rane tm57-sl mixer. Then the other djs in our company use house supplied cdj-800/serato systems.
We take a road ready or marathon flat coffin case and cut a hole under the mixer big enough to fit the S-1 box and then have it hard wired to a usb connector on the box so my djs plug their xlrs in, wireless mic in, usb cord in and voila.
What I do like about the serato is its dependence on the cd players so we have them there as back up automatically. We also have 3 guys who still use serato with vinyl and they carry a rack with a cdn-55 as back up

Steve Cie 04-16-2008, 01:15 PM PCDJ FX VRM
It works well for me. No real problems. A hiccup now and then, but the ability to build request lists on the fly and the ability to export my library into an Excel File is very handy.
I've been using it just about three years now.

Marco - I'm going to agree with Bryan......try OTS and use the built in processing...It sounds good...VDJ and the like do not have built in processing or have it work as good as it does with OTS....OTS as well...cannot beat its automixing (automatic one song to another; not beat matching)....
bestdjinfl 04-16-2008, 01:25 PM Mixmeister, I like the way it beat mixes for you.Rockit as well for my oldies
That statement makes me sick
Bryan Durio 04-16-2008, 01:26 PM Ots's Beat Mixing is excellent as well! As in any other program which beat mixes, you have to tweak each song to be sure that the Mix and Match Points are correct.
Although you can't have it Auto Beat Mix out of a song at will, I generally don't like what the modern definition of Beat Mixing is: a medley of songs. I like hearing most songs from beginning to end!

Ill never do automixing.I alwais mix manualy when i do beat mixing.
Anyway, thanx for info but i dont like OTS and i dont know why.Maybe Im simply in love with VDJ because i use theyre products for 10 or something years.:sqwink:

Yes i like to hear the whole songs too but in my case is that possible only for private Partyes or Weddings. In Bars(which are 60%)i can not play without beat mixing.
Scott McKinney 04-17-2008, 01:10 PM PCDJ Red 5.2, VDJ, Sam Party DJ, WinAmp with the KJ plugin.

Now that's a valid point. I tend to agree with you there!
ou812 04-17-2008, 01:30 PM I use Atomix MP3 (lower end virtual dj product) that I purchased years ago, and have had great luck with. Not the fanciest interface, but stable, reliable, and easy to use. Now and again I will use Winamp for background music or at events that allow or require me to step away from the pc for a bit. Both programs work reliably, and well for me.
PCDJ Red 5.2, VDJ, Sam Party DJ, WinAmp with the KJ plugin.
That winamp sure kicks the lamas ass
DJ Scottie 04-18-2008, 11:48 AM Spinning Old School here... Im still using Virtual DJ 3.4 .... not beeause I dont have the current verson, I just have not taken the time to learn the program again when they went into ver. 4 and 5. the skin I use on 3.4 will not work on 5.xx
Works sooooooo nice!

ahoustondj 04-20-2008, 10:03 PM no traktor uses here?
I use Traktor and just love it. It can be very intimidating to new users as it has lots of bells and whistles.
Jeff Romard 04-20-2008, 10:17 PM I use Mixmeister 6. I like the simplicity of it. I have tried the others, some in demo and some full version, and the only other one I really liked was Rockit
crewl1 04-21-2008, 02:06 AM Traktor djs3 on external mixer is what I use.
I tried just a few others when I switched to a laptop.
I felt this had the best combo of features for my taste, but I am sure there are lots of other good ones I haven't checked out yet.
I haven't had any problems with it (it has not let me down at a gig yet) and runs well on my older lappys.
My son runs Serato - works great for him.
My nephew runs Torq - still glitchy after a few months of use.

Compatible with both Mac & PC (Vista & XP).
Also does Video & Karaoke.

lets dance 05-20-2008, 12:20 PM Traktor 3 DJ Studio for three years never had a problem easy to use lots of features does everything I need it to do. This is the only DJ software I have ever used so I can not say how it compares.
p.s. What about sound cards/quality. I'm using an M-Audio 4-in/6-out firewire into and external mixer numark dxm 101 then into a dbx 2215 EQ. Cleans the sound up real nice.
jkcomputers 05-20-2008, 09:04 PM Hey, Lets dance... any pics of the setup, I am curious to see...
