I have some specific requirements that may be a bit different than most DJs although I know some of the folks here offer Karaoke as one of their services. Any plans for adding a Karaoke feature or plugin to Rockit?

Over my dead body :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

Nah, in all honesty, even though I have been to many Karaoke things, I really have no clue. I try my best to listen to Toq and Rob, Carolyn and crew, but I just don't have the expertise in that area, to put my name on a product.

I stick with what I do best -- no half-azzed attempts from me :)

I do try to make my software pretty well behaved though, so it should work fine in tandem with others.

What prompted this inquiry was that I'm thinking about getting a new DJ/Karaoke program and since my great experience with Ben and NorthernlightFX I'm getting on the bandwagon with ODJT sponsors. I think Karaoke is here to stay and from what I can see it's getting more and more popular, of course with it's ups and downs. In Japan it's REALLY popular, we have a ways to go to get anywhere near how they are. I think American Idol is and will do a lot to create more interest in Karaoke in the US.

I understand wanting to do what you do really well and you may feel Rockit is done or near done and that there may not be much more development done to it because it has the features DJs want, it's stable it works great and there may not be much you can do to improve it.

However, if you can write the code to do what you've done, I bet you could figure out how to create an add on for Rockit or a Karaoke vesion. You may be retired or retiring soon, I don't know, these are just some thoughts of mine. No one says every program needs to to be a swiss army knife. If you do something well and it's appreciated then it's a job well done.

Rockit will never be done -- it is a work in progress :)

What gets put into each new release, is dependent on what my paying customers ask for, and what I can deliver, while retaining the stability of the product.

One of my pet peeves about software, is trying to scrunch too many things into one application, and thereby degrading the quality of the whole application. I see it all around me, not just in DJ software. So I basically take the approach, that less is sometimes more.

You may be retired or retiring soon, I don't know...

I retired from "normal" life long ago -- in fact, I'm not even sure I was ever really there :sqlaugh:

Writing software is not a job to me, it is something I enjoy doing, much like gardening. As long as I am here, I will do it.

I also am a Mom & Pop type shop. I deliberately don't advertise too much, as I want to be able to personally support all my clients. I actually cut back my adverts this year, because I was getting too many customers, and I didn't want to hire a bunch of people, and lose that connection I have established.

I also don't want certain customers, as weird as that may sound. That's one of the reasons you don't see any wiki-wiki type stuff in my software. After 30+ years in this business, I've learned to stay away from the DJZillas ;)

So, Rockit is alive, well, and prospering -- and V4.1 will be out as soon as I finish it...
