Hey guys, this might be a rather long post. I had an overall good gig tonight but it didn't come without a fair share of difficulties. First of all some background about whats been going on. I've been working on getting some new lights in and made the mistake of not going with the right kind vendors and it resulted in me getting crap. So i'll be in touch with Audiolines next week to get my things ordered right. So lighting was a pain for me tonight. Luckily i did get in my 2 UV washes and they performed great. I think their best effect was during thriller! I didn't get a setup picture because it slipped my mind with the other problems I had. I used my bubble machines (2) with strobes on them for an added effect tonight. They were both in the DJ booth area so nobody would touch them. Midway through the night, a young lady decides to pole dance on one of them and it proceeds to fall, crash and be oblitterated. Great $100 bubbler and $30 strobe light killed. (School cut me a check). Later while breaking down, a kid decided to jump on my truss and do pullups. One of the tripods legs screw sheared off and now i gotta repair my truss tripods too. I did a confetti shoot during soulja boy and the reaction was fantastic. I used only blacklights and i shot white streamers and it was a very cool effect. Hot songs of the night: The Anthem, Low, and Turn Me On.

Gear List:

Lighting:

~ Odyssey 10' Itruss System
~ 2 Elation UV Washes
~ 2 DJScan250HP Scanners
~ 1 Chauvet Vue3
~ 4 ADJ Par56
~ T16F & SF-9005 Controllers

Sound:

~ 2 JBL EON15 G2
~ 2 QSC HPR122i
~ 2 Mackie SWA1501z

I did a really good job of cleaning and virtually no wires but the ones (taped down) on the floor) were visible) And yes the curtain was closed during the performance to cover up all the cases. I shot 4 Par38s up behind the DJ booth and it looked pretty kick-butt.

Nice job Ryan, honestly, if someone came behind my DJ booth and started pole dancing on my equipment, unless there were special circumstances I'd probably stop the music, and make a scene out of it by telling her on the mic to get out, and then after she left start the music. I can't stand it when people try to disrespect us as DJs, and our gear.Theres no reason you have to put up with that, and no reason a guest should think she can tramp all over you and your gear. Its something that as a teen dj, I sometimes have a hard time with, so I know from firsthand experience how this goes, and when equipment breaks its never fun.

Seriously though, you always have some cool lighting and effects ideas, good job!

Carolina, what kind of coverage are you getting from those UV washes? Do you think 4 of them would cover a pretty large dancefloor? Did you run them without any other lights on at any point?

I wanna know why Ryan didn't contact Ben for his equipment needs? Live and learn I guess.

I was wondering the same thing. I can understand folks wanting to save but once youve been burnt ya really need to consider giving Ben a call. Its an 800 number and costs nothing but could save you in multiple fashion. Sometimes I wonder.
