So I tried the Presonus Firebox......It would only work with ASIO on outputs 3,4,5 and 6.....

Tell me this...I swear when I was playing some songs, I swear...it seemed like the tune was slowing down.....

Was I hearing things?

To me the $325 price tag wasn't compelling enough...I'm returning it.....Waht frosted me; Vista couldn't/wouldn't uninstall the driver...I hate that!!!!

So I reformatted.....

I'm going to pick up the Fast Trak Pro...$199.00

Anyone have any comments?

I also ordered 2 Behringer UCA202 as back ups.....

It's been three (maybe four now) flawless years with the USB GigaPortAG for me, Steve.

Now that the lappys are getting stronger and faster, using the ASIO drivers, the VDJ program can be assigned Player A to 1 & 2 and connect it to mixer channel 1, Player B to 3 & 4 and connect it to mixer channel 2, THEN running at the same time simultaneously, BPM Studio with its Player A to 5 & 6 connected to mixer channel 3 and Player B 7 & 8 connected to mixer channel 4. It's crazy when it's possible to mix four sources, crazy I tell you.

I will strongly recommend the GigaPortAG to anyone who cares to listen.

Kevin: Do a Google on the Gigiaport AG. I paid about $150-$160 but someone told me they've come down some. Prices back then were all over the map for the same item.

The only "issue" I have with the Fastrak Pro is that the main gain knob only controls outputs 1& 2, nor 3 &4...so essentially you have to adjust the master gain to match the out put of 3&$.....not much of an issue...an issue nonetheless.....

I have been using a Gigaport for about two years now with no problems. I use a channel (Two outputs, left & right) for internal cueing to my headphones. I use Traktor which allows you 3 cue areas without disturbing the active playlist.

So I bought the Fast Trak Pro....works great. I swear I hear things I hadn't before (in the songs - which is good!)...Interesting difference though with Vista and XP. With Vista, you can only use Asio...with XP you have a choice; Asio or the windows sound (wdm?) drivers

During My day job, I do run a computer business, One of the DJs I know has just gone to PC... He asked me for a sound card, I did manage to find one for him for $35... Its about the size of a thumb drive, works awesome, gives you only one output, but you can use the software to configure multiple. Its plug and Play, and works with vista...

I have the Gigaport and its also nice that Traktor Studio has 4 decks so there is no need for an additional program.

Wiz - I suspect this is similar to the Behringer UCA 202 and the myriad of other solutions....Good bang for the buck...I like the rca outs; no adapters to fool with to go to the mixer....

thatmusicguy, I can understand if you're looking for something higher end than what I posted. I haven't heard the sound from it yet so I can't comment on that, but I'm sure at $30 it's an entry level product.

I'm going to be ordering it today. I need to record some tracks to CD of me singing so I can give them to prospective bars and restaurants. I've been getting asked if I have a CD and I've had to say no. I figure around 8-10 songs in different genres is more than enough. If the AA is decent I'll use it for DJing too.

Thanks Rick!

It looks like the Behringer has more features and more bang for the buck. That thing does a lot for very little money. It's got the two RCA inputs and the two RCA outputs just like I was looking for. It also has software available for download for recording according to Musician's Friend. I'm don't know what the S/PDIF is or what kind of cable you need or where you would plug it in or what it does.

Wiz - I think you're going to find it sounds fine....It's in the same league as the Behringer, Turtle Beach......a basic usb sound card. The beauty of these units...no drivers needed...so they can be used anywhere by anyone....nothing like true "plug and play"

I have the Turtle Beach......30 bucks....it sounds great. The only con is the 1/8" plug. I'd rather have rca.....The only reason I bought the M audio was that I wanted a multi out card, rather than plugging 2 soundcards in.....

The Wizard Of OZ

The dual RCA input and output is one of the major reasons I'm ordering one today.

I have the Creative Xfi and it has (2) 1/8" jacks, one for output and one for input.

Both the USB and internal laptop versions that I own are going on ebay as soon as I get the Behringer.

It's a nobrainer for me at $30. If I can get a few tunes recorded to CD it more than pays for itself the very first time I use it.

I was at a garage recording studio recently and the CD cost around $300 to make. I didn't commission the CD, I was just asked to sing a couple of songs, I didn't pay anything, but the guy who had it made did. Even if if it costs me $150 to have one made at the garage studio because I only have maybe 10 tracks, I'd rather get the experience of using the gear and the software and learn about the process. Who knows, maybe it can make me some money down the road, I have a garage too.

My Behringer sound card came in. It works great. So simple. Just plug it into the USB port and off you go. Here is what I think is cool about it. Not only does it have the 2 RCA input and 2 RCA output jacks , it also has a headphone jack that you can use as either a headphone monitor, but you could also use it with a cable to your mixer just like any other sound card with a 1/8" output jack. Very slick. Overall sound quality sounds fine. For $30 this thing is a bargain. The convenience of being external and USB is a big plus IMO. Much better than an internal card in terms of convenience.

I don't usually endorse hardware much, but when I do, it's gotta be pretty decent, and something I use everyday without problems for months on end.

My two have stood the test of time, in a very smoky environment (I'm a chain smoker) + I have a vent free gas heater, that puts out more than my own chimney :sqerr:

Okay,,, I still don't have a sound card,,, so what I am seeing is this,,, you plug one end into a USB port,,,, then the box,,,,,,, there are two outs on the sound card, one for each player in my program, are the two outs two sets of rca's? L&R?

Then there is another out that you can hook up to a buner to make CD mixes?

I dunno...

Nada... There are right and left outs (one stereo pair), and right and left ins. Not two separate outs. The headphone and optical are still getting the same signal as the main outs.

It's a simple design, that works well -- get two of them for $50 total, and you can map each deck to a separate card, and separate mixer channel :)

Do your recording off the mixer.

chuck, this soundcard is soooo simple and easy to use. Nothing to it.
I think what Rick is trying to tell you is that you can plug two of them into your laptop, one in one USB port and another in a second USB port. Your laptop and player will recognize both and you'll have two separate soundcards that you can hook into you mixer or CD control unit etc.

Chuck The DJ
05-08-2008, 06:45 PM
s I should buy two and the sound quality of my system will go way up because I'm not using the headphone jack..?.

The Wizard Of OZ
05-08-2008, 07:11 PM
Depends on your equipment and how you play music. I only need one. The soundcard plugs into the USB port of your computer and from there a cable goes into the mixer just like you would hook up a CD player, an IPOD, a tape deck or any other input into your mixer. You can go into a channel on your mixer or into a Cd IN or Tape IN. When you launch a song from your laptop software, it goes through the USB soundcard, into the mixer and out to your speakers.

The reason people are going to these external sound cards is 1. Better sound quality than the internal sound card of most laptops, 2.Easy and higher quality recording through the USB soundcard, 3. Easy portability from one computer to another-just unplug and then plug into the other computer. There may be other reasons, but I can't think of any right now. The main reason to get one is improved sound quality.
