Thoughts and questions from tonights gig...

Just back from a Latin wedding at a venue that I work at a lot. Beautiful old club (Kansas City Club downtown KC). The wedding was pretty big so they sat people in two rooms seperated by a large marble floored open space where I was, so I was in the middle with my main system and got to play with some of my new toys. The guests were much older and mostly Latin so I played a lot of salsa!! The couple didn't arrive until 9:45 and dinner went until 11:00 so not much time for dancing but made the most of it.....some questions and comments from the night:

1. Do anti-fatigue mats really work? Are they worth the trouble? My feet are killing me!

2. I ran a single JBL PRX 15 into the corner of each room off to the side of me, full sound for the whole place. Scored big with the venue :sqwink:

3. When I was loading the JBL PRX's I was SO GLAD I went with them vs. the 100 lb QSC's.

4. There was a suspect group of kids hanging out in the alley when I was loading up, glad I had my .380 on my hip!

5. I missed my daughters school family fun night tonight because I had this gig booked 16 months ago. I hated being a DJ tonight. I really need a second Op that I can pawn gigs off on when things like this happen. I'm taking the whole family to the movies and bowling tomorrow to make up for it.

6. My moving head froze up on me and didn't work at all tonight for the first time. Maybe time to get a terminting plug...or a new controller? There's always something????

7. It's late...time for a beer then bed.

Cheers!

Good stuff Kris. I hear you when it comes to missing family events because of a gig, but like you I make it up the next day with a movie, Dave & Buster's or bowling. It would take me two weeks of work at my old day job to bring home what I make on a booked weekend. The family understands.
As for the comfort question. I wear a shoe by Dr. Marten that feels great for long periods of standing.
Maybe I missed it. Are you running prx subs also? Carrying the heavy qsc's after a long night would have been rough. Good call on the PRX.

Still using Passive subs, but will upgrade to the PRX subs within 12 months. I'm looking forward to having a solid DJ on staff that I can kick these gigs to when family stuff comes up. Good call on Dave and Busters....we have one in town but we've yet to go. Maybe tonight is the night (after a client meeting that is :sqconfused:)

Congrats, Kris.

The anti-fatigue mats do indeed make a big difference. When I worked at Sunroc, we installed 'em all along the production lines. You'll notice by the end of a show that your back doesn't hurt as much and you'll feel more energetic. :)

I'll second that! Mr. Fred is 100% correct.
