skwiffer 04-23-2008, 10:39 AM Hi
I just got the hercules rmx yesterday but i'm having a major problem with it. i've installed and uninstalled close to 10 times but every time i start up the virtual dj that comes with it it says that the controller cannot be detected. in the computer manager there is an exclamation mark next to the asio and bulk drivers. i've tried to update them through that but it says no better software can be found.
i tested the controller in midi monitor and everything appears to be fine there and i've also emailed hercules support but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and has any help in the meantime? any help is appreciated as i'm getting close to my wits end.
thanks in advance
i'm using xp by the way
i'm also getting the message, 'windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. code 37'
Steve Sharp 04-23-2008, 08:02 PM I'm a product rep, I'm not tech support, but I'll suggest a couple things to try for you.
Did you install the Hercules drivers?
Does your computer "see" the RMX unit, via USB?
While not all of the buttons light up, do any of them? If the USB connection is working, which sounds like your difficulty, you'll get blue backlighting on many of the buttons.
Hope this helps.
skwiffer 04-24-2008, 05:44 AM thanks for your reply. yea, i installed the hercules drivers. my computer does see it as well. it tries to install the drivers itself without the cd and the lights show up when i plug it in. not all of them but the same ones on each side turn on. i have a feeling it's a problem with my omputer. this code 37 thing seems to be the issue so i'm going to try and find out how i can sort it out. thanks again
djMarco 04-24-2008, 07:35 AM You must also do some things in CONFIG menu in VDJ.
skwiffer 04-24-2008, 07:38 PM ok. do you have any idea what has to be changed? i can't open vdj itself and the icon that comes up in the bottom right hand corner only has 'search for updates' and 'exit' and something else but i forget what. but i can't get to any settings. is it through my computer and that?
Steve Sharp 04-24-2008, 08:51 PM Marco:
The LE version doesn't allow you to tinker with the config., so I don't believe sqwiffer can or needs to delve in there to "activate" the controller, as you would in the full version. The LE is intended to be "plug and play", but while it's plugging, it's not playing for skwiffer.
Skwiffer:
I don't know why you're stuck, and I haven't a clue what code 37 is.
Please put in a support ticket
http://ts.hercules.com/eng/
I've talked to at least a couple of the techs along the way, and they're good people, interested in getting you up and working.
skwiffer 04-25-2008, 04:30 AM thank you steve and marco. i've been meaning to update my problem with hercules. i think that's probably my best bet
djMarco 04-25-2008, 05:46 AM Steve,
I alwais check things double or more as should.Thats me...
djfcp 05-07-2008, 12:03 AM Just bought it today and the install failed exactly as you described in all respects. Either defective hardware, firmware, software or all three. Big problems out of the gate. Not impressed.
Advise no one to buy this until they fix the install issue. I wasted a night on it. Tried both XP desktop and vista laptop. Same general issues. Both machines are based on AMD if that is the core issue. the unit goes dark and can't install properly.
I got some midi drivers loaded and other audio drivers loaded, but it's far from a stable or clean install. I had partial activity with sound (hey it does sound great!) and some buttons worked after porting things as best as I could though traktor. Unit is dark and seizes if I tried to use the jogs for more than a few seconds. oh and Jog wheels were unresponsive at all times.
Wrote Hercules to see how to fix it, but heck, I'm done/ I'm going to return it tomorrow because this is a seriously big problem. Price was good, sound was good. Good general layout/ but No way to install it. Total suck. Did I mention the only device on par with this terrible and frustrating install was a talking BARBIE doll I tried installing for my kid on a win98 machine about 10 years ago. But hey, I still need a controller for traktor, with external audio, with mic and aux inputs. So if anyone experiencing this problem solves it, please let me know since I still want to use it since there is nothing else out there with this feature and price point.
John
Steve Sharp 05-07-2008, 12:25 AM Good luck to you.
And welcome to ODJT, I guess.
djfcp 05-07-2008, 07:36 PM Steve- Thanks, looks like a good forum. Sorry, my first entry is ditching on the RMX install, but I'm sure other DJ's want this problem fully solved by Hercules prior to buying it.
I called Hercules tech service 9 AM. Ramona answered. After a few minutes of explaining the cryptic details of the issue, she suggested the issue is faulty firmware on some units and I would immediately get an email to me that explained how to flash the bios. It's 7PM and still no email and I'm disapointed because I need some go time on it to consider using it at a sweet -16 party this weekend. I suspect she was honest about the solution, but not able to send the patch until the programmers release it. I'll be patient and give them one more day before returning the unit as I respect how hard it is to get all the bugs out of new gear. Heck, it either this for $350 or pony up $2700 clams for the industry standard Allen and Heath mixer. I guess I can afford to wait another day.
djfcp 05-08-2008, 09:50 AM Updated firmware per Ramona's email, but it seemed to be the exact same firmware version 1.0.4.28 so it did not help (unit is still always dark).
Using XP computer, I started TRAKTOR and carefully remapped midi, changing channels to 1 in any instance it was set to OMNI. Mapped the scratch pads to rotary encoder 64 and reset sensitivities. Mapped scratch ON button and stabilized the machine from seizing up within minutes to a more stable mix session up to 1/2 hr. I only used the functions I remapped and stabilized because any midi set incorrectly can jam-up the software. Called Hercules again this morning continue dialog on why the unit stays dark. They advised loading VDJ tonight and test driving the "stock" installation. I'll do that since VDJ has some neat video functions...
As mentioned earlier, the audio is surprisingly good - headphones can be screaming loud if required and the eq's sound musical in response to traktor. I won't comment on the scratch pads function until I get them tweaked since the RMX software coupled with TRAKTORs allow huge changes in function. Current verdict. Bad install issues, but - great POTENTIAL for a single mixer controller option for computer DJ's. Next step, get it running stable on Vista laptop. If this works. I intend to stick with the RMX, but exchange this one for one that lights up properly when installed.
Steve Sharp 05-08-2008, 07:52 PM If you have a powered USB hub, can you try connecting the RMX to that, and then to your computer, and let me know if that changes any of your results?
What sounds like a different issue with some computers was solved this way, and I'm wondering if this would help or even solve the one(s) you're having.
archie_mn 05-09-2008, 09:32 AM About the problem everyone has been having has anyone tried doing a new install using the drivers out on the herc site? I just got mine today and have not set it up yet(at work my start to feel ill) But my thoughts where to use the drivers posted to the site first as a clean install. Any thoughts comments?
djfcp 05-09-2008, 12:13 PM Good suggestion, I did that and many other things in my first frustrating session when I tried out the unit. After about 3 install/uninstall cycles from the disk, I did the next unistall/install from their website program. It got me no further, and I repeated it again since the unit was still dark.
After finally getting the drivers loaded.
I next went back to the website and read about TRAKTOR and followed the exact procedure for RMX as soundcard, loading the .tks file, setting inputs outputs and activiting MIDI. (latency and ASIO I adjusted in the RMX software, not TRAKTOR).
This is when I first saw I did not have MIDI OUT in TRAKTOR. I suspect this relates to the lights not working, but no one has confirmed this. Any manual adjustments I did to MIDI came next to stabilize it and get the scratch pads working. I can happily say I used it last night for four hours and only had one minor glitch in loop function that required a reboot of traktor. This unit works well, but I haven't found good setting for the scratch pads yet that makes it musical in terms of performance.
Also, I tried it on a third computer yesterday. I don't want to get specific, but everything behaves the same - dark, but working. No MIDI out.. So we are still at the same spot whether I use the website drivers/install or the included driver. I'm working closely with Hercules support. They have been very attentive and really want to help me, so I'm helping them as well by sticking it out, but they are not working with a "dark" unit - so they are not able to replicate the issue.
djfcp 05-09-2008, 11:05 PM $20 - tried it. Steve thanks for the suggestion, but no help, except it will add six usb slots and I needed one anyway.
I think I got a bum unit in terms of the "midi out" controlling the lights but other than that it now works perfect with traktor and I'm having fun mixing!!!!
I'll exchange it Monday at sam ash where I bought it for one that fully works. I'll bring my laptop in and test it there to ensure it works.
archie_mn 05-12-2008, 09:31 AM Got my unit Friday night. Prior to installing anything I uninstalled my full version of VDJ. I then ran the driver set I found on the Herc Web site instead of what was on the disk. I then installed the VDJ LE version off the disk and started up the app. Every thing ran perfect. I then reinstalled my full version of VDJ. Once I completed these I reran my BPM and TAG search just to do a refresh of my DB and I have been a MIDI fool all weekend. I love this device for what I paid for it. Reading other forums the Item seemed to have lag issues with those users but i have a pretty beefy machine and nothing else runs on this box. I saw no issues with performance or response time from the device it's self. one thing I did notice was the gain seemed to keep resetting its self. is that part of the VDJ app to reset gain on load of a new track? besides that I loved the RMX and suggest to anyone buying that the full version of VDJ is the way to go with this unit.
skwiffer 05-12-2008, 08:19 PM i've been advised to get mine replaced :(
archie_mn 05-13-2008, 08:17 AM It does sound like somthing may be wrong with the unit. Replacement may be a good idea. In the mean time when you did the uninstall of the drivers and such did you do this through control panel add\remove programs? If you are computer literate at all and feel comftorable searching your registry then i suggest doing a search for anything related to hercules and remove it. Also the USB Connection is a BIG thing. I had mine shipped to work and to pass the time I installed it on my work PC first and that thing is a piece of .... well the frist time it failed beacuse the port i plugged into was not 2.0 compatable. I quit the installation and reran this time plugging into my USB ports at the rear of the PC. I feel your pain as I have been in situations similar. But after all your effort I would suggest getting them to replace it with a new unit. It sucks you have had such a bad experience i really like this thing it is responsive and works well at the club. I brought the new toy to my saturday night gig and the thing worked like a charm. Steve I think I may of sold a couple more units that night.
DJ DES 06-02-2008, 01:05 AM If you have a powered USB hub, can you try connecting the RMX to that, and then to your computer, and let me know if that changes any of your results?

I got my unit on friday and went through the same storm of Install/uninstall ...... the controls on the RMX all worked but there was no way to play anything as I always got the message "Error In the ASIO driver" when i would load up virtual dj LE ...... the hercules dj series control panel WAS set to ASIO to begin with but as soon as i would load up VDJ ..... it would return to WDM and give me the error ....
I installed it on my brothers computer and within 3 mins literally everything was working like a charm ....so i wondered ..... with 2 systems that are exactly the same except for a slight difference in CPU's why wont it work on mine?
POWERED USB hub you say ?
YES that was the problem .... I do have a powered USB hub but i must make a note for all of you out there ....that not all HUBS will work even if they are powered ...... in my case i simply switched to a USB slot on the computer itself and VOILA ! BAM !
Steve Sharp 06-02-2008, 02:02 AM Des:
Glad you got it up and running. I think you'll enjoy it. Welcome to ODJT.

Thanks for spreading the word. I should have some new pictures to share after this next weekend of the latest revamps to my mobile system that I'm hoping will illustrate more ideas on how the RMX can be used. I'm pretty excited about it.

Hi, Does anyone have any more info on this problem as I have just bought a console and have the same problem. I have returned it and been sent another one and it has exactly the same problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Nelse.
Steve Sharp 06-10-2008, 10:09 AM Welcome Nelse:
I'm not tech support, but a product specialist. This being said, I will help you as best I can, along the way.
From reviewing the thread, it looks like the original poster had a defective unit. If you are having the very same problem, I think there's nothing you can do, short of returning it for repair, or having it replaced.
Have you submitted a support ticket online, or called Hercules support on this? They'd be the ones to best determine the course of action.
Nelse 06-10-2008, 10:21 AM I have had it replaced with a Brand new one today and I have exactly the same problem.
Tech support did get back to me with their solution, which involves deleting the drivers from the registry, but that didn't work either, I have told them this, but I`m still waiting to hear from them (they are very slow).
archie_mn 06-10-2008, 01:04 PM What USB ports are you plugging into if you are plugging into the usb ports on the front or side of your laptop / desktop try the back ones. Also not all powered usb hubs work with the RMX. I had the same problem before and it was the front usb ports on my desktop they are not powered and when i plugged into one of them in the back presto!!! this was the same with my laptop the side ports are not powered and the back one was. I would hate to see you replacing hardware all the time when it may be something that simple. Let me know if that helps. I dont think you need to do a complete cleaning of you pc but do an uninstall and delete any herc folders and there is another folder that goes along with the herc i just cant remember the name right now then download the latest driver set from
http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=2&fid=28&pid=215&cid=1
then try reinstalling VDJ CE hope we get you working.

Sorry, Hadn't got round to the profile bit as I've been spending to much time trying to get the console to work. I have just come of the phone from Hercules support in the UK and they said (in their words) They have no idea what the problem is. The thing that's stumping them is the error code (windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. code 37)
I`m determined to get this thing working,,,,,,,
archie_mn 06-10-2008, 02:37 PM it is funny that you are getting that error code as it is one typically associated with XP and drives such as a cd/dvd drive once and a great while you will see this with flash drives as well but a majority of the time not. I hate to tell ya mate but it seems like your OS and not the device have you tried all you USB ports like i suggested earlier? Also the folders you wand to delete in you program files includes one called Guillemot.
Steve Sharp 06-10-2008, 02:46 PM Nelse:
Since he had the same error code, and I assume resolved it (he kinda disappeared, as a few others have, after getting fixed up), see if you can PM Skwiffer and find out more about how his issue with that error code was resolved.
I'm in North America, and other than these two posts, haven't heard of this particular error. I don't understand what it is, what it means, or why you get it, either.
If you haven't gotten this resolved in the next couple of days, I will see if I can call in additional help from my contacts within Hercules. Keep working it as you have been until Thursday, and if it's not resolved for you by then, I'll see if I can do more.
archie_mn 06-10-2008, 02:49 PM I made it a new thread as well but you should know Hercules has a new driver only days old out on the web you should try installing this
Nelse 06-10-2008, 03:02 PM Thanks for all your help Steve/archie_mn.........
I have always used the latest drivers from the herc website. I have tried plugging into every USB port on my laptop and desktop, both running windows XP. I've also tried powered Hub's as well.... I`m beginning to loose the will to live with this....... I really want it to work as it seems a great piece of kit, but it's taking up so much of my time. I have PM'd Skwiffer but have not heard back. FYI, After it goes through the install process I get yellow !'s in the Device manager against Hercules DJ Console RMX Bulk and Hercules DJ Console RMX ASIO.
archie_mn 06-10-2008, 03:55 PM Big bit of info! if you plug your RMX in and get the yellow ! yield signs next to the device this is the driver not installing properly. if you go into the properties of the device you can do an update driver and point it to the folder where herc is installed or even let it do an auto search of your system. I had this problem and that seemed to do the trick. good luck mate!!!

Steve Sharp 06-14-2008, 11:04 AM Skwiffer:
Thanks for checking back in. Now that we've got it working on one machine, we can at least verify it's not a defective RMX, but we still need to get it working on your machine.
Have you tried connecting your RMX to a powered hub, as I had suggested to Des (solved his or her problem), and am presently suggesting to Nelse (on the VDJ forum)? It seems that some laptops have issue with the initial power draw the RMX takes from the USB port - a POWERED USB hub solves this problem easily and cheaply (less than $20 for simple one)... if this is what's gumming up your installation.
Can you try this, and let us know if that makes a difference?
Nelse 06-15-2008, 08:40 AM BIG NEWS.............................................. ...
I seem to have solved the problem, I`m just checking that everything else on my computer is working OK, then I'll write a full explanation.........
Steve Sharp 06-15-2008, 11:46 AM Excellent news.
I await the details, when you get a chance to post them.
Nelse 06-15-2008, 01:53 PM Hercules RMX DJ Console
This is the fix that, at the moment seems to work for me.
The Issue
You install the RMX drivers from the Hercules website as per the instructions. After the install has finished you get a red cross in the DJ icon in the taskbar, and in the device manager you get yellow marks next to the following drivers: Hercules DJ Console Rmx BULK and Hercules DJ Console Rmx ASIO. When you right Click the driver in the device manager, and click properties it says “windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. Code 37”.
The Solution (that worked for me)
In the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS there is a file called wdf01000.sys
I moved this file onto my desktop. I then restarted my computer and went through in install procedure for the Rmx drivers again and they installed. After they had been installed correctly a new version of the file wdf01000.sys was created in the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.
My conclusion is that this file (wdf01000.sys) must have been corrupt and was not allowing the drivers to install properly. It’s taken me over a week to figure it out, and I hope this info might help other people out in the same situation.
skwiffer 06-17-2008, 07:44 AM yes yes. that really is excellent news. i shall try that later. thank you
Nelse 06-17-2008, 04:12 PM Make sure you create a system restore point before doing it........ Just in case......

Hi there. I had a Mackie d2 w/ firewire card which I tried to get running with Traktor 3 on a Fujitsu laptop. The Fujitsu didnt want to know! My research suggested the same problem happened on many Dells. I had no problem on my desktop. I swopped the Fujitsu for a Sony Vaio and no problems. See if you can try installing on a diiferent laptop.
I have just ordered an RMX which I await with a little trepidation after reading all on here!
Cheers Rob
archie_mn 07-15-2008, 12:14 PM Rob,
You will enjoy the RMX just a note follow the instructions and install the drivers from the web site ts.hercules.com not off the cd you get with the rmx. then install the vdj console. You may also want to read the few threads here about the rmx and problems people have been having save your self the trouble.
