Top 100 songs to play at a wedding??

Kinda a tall order I know, but I have a 4hr reception to do. They want lots of disco, top 40, hip hop etc. New and old.

I need a list and mabe the order to play them?? Thats the hard part.

I need these people (20'-40's) dancing hard!!! I want it to be a huge success.

I see that there are a lot of veteran DJ's on this board. I figure this is the place to ask.

Anyone?? I'm a rookie and need help with this.

Thanks in advance!!! Much appreciated.

-Chas

Chas you are taking on quite a challenge here. We as veterans face the interesting challenge event after event as one to the next can be like night and day. Knowing what song to play is not an easy task. For me I feel it and go with my feeling. Most often due to experience and hopefully a bit of inborn skill I pull it off. The list provided is but a great guideline which many of us have found great success. Telling you when to play which song when is like Russian Roullette. This is why though the best list and best prepared ipod wedding will likely be blaise sp? at best and more likely to fail. Apparently these folks trust you and I wish you well.

Chas, no one can tell you what order to play songs. Every party has its own personality, and you need to feel out the crowd. Play a bit of everything at first, and watch what gets the best response from the crowd. Then go in that general direction, but be wary of playing too many songs of a given genre in a row (> 3-4, unless the crowd's skewed toward a particular one).

You may want to start with Oldies at first, maybe throwing a more current song or two in there every now and then, and gradually playing for the younger crowd as the reception moves on.

Good luck!

Have the music ready with the top songs of each genre burned on (say 2 cds) then wing it....

Ok so a gut feeling. I can do with that.

Can you guys share with me some of the best all time songs that will for sure put people on the dance floor? There has to be some of the best of the best out there, no?

Scott Hanna gave me a good list. Anyone else wanna share with me a list of some good feet movers?

Thanks for the input!!

Brick House 99% of the time is my first fast song

I don't hold back, if the B&G asked for new stuff I will hit them ith the hottest new song to kick the party off. It's not like a club where you might want to hold onto that song for later....

Last Saturday night my first few songs were:
Brick House
Yeah!
Low
Billie Jean
Ice Ice Baby
We Are Family
Sexy Back

but that's just me

Scottie have you had much luck with Brickhouse here in BC? I used to always pull that off as one of my heavy hitters and here it has been minimal at best.

Ya its ok... I dont play it nearly as often as "RASPUTIN" and "HOME FOR A REST":sqwink:

If I do use it, it is often later into our 4 hour dance set.... with some good old school and funk.

chas,
as others have said, no one can say "this is the exact order you should play these songs in".
every crowd is different. a good DJ reads the crowd, and makes changes when needed....sometimes at a moments notice.

If a succesful reception was as easy as loading 100 songs in and letting it rip, Dan Mckay would be rich because brides would simply just need to buy his book and have a great reception and save money.....and I'd be working the drive thu at taco bell.

It works here but even more detailed effort must prevail. When would one play Leif Garrett for maximum response thats the 1 million dollar question.:sqwink:leif garrett still rockin the parties up in Canada, huh?

Love generation is by bob sinclair people affectionately know it as the HH Gregg Commercial but HH is expanding like CRAZY out here so its on the radio all the time.

I always play it off the first of the night it seems to get the floor jumping early...

I think I will pass on it in August 30 though I have a bride named Suzanne I'm not sure how it would work that night :sqeek:
