are you going argue with your wife when she tells you that you need to by more gear?

I think not. My wife is my motivator without her I would get very much done.

Best price or best value?

Either way, Chauvet Trackscan 250.
Great unit. Has a UV filter as one of its colors. I have owned them in the past before moving heads. I still own Q Rolls 250.

while the tracksacn is a very nice light. If I was going to spend that kind of change I'd just buy Martin SCX-700's.

I'm really thinking $250 each $300 max.

American Dj Fantasy Scan 250 is an option but colors stink.

Chauvet Q-SCAN 150 If i can find them.

The prices for flat mirror scanners has been coming down dramatically.
You can get the American DJ Scan 250 at Guitar Center right now for $199.
The more recent model DJ Scans are going fr $299 each.

I have four of these and they work very well for me.
But in the advent of venues banning fog and smoke, the effect is greatly dimished.

If I were to purchase lights right now, I would difinitely get Moving Head Fixtures with LED. They are coming down in price, and they produce great effects with or without fog/smoke.

I'd go with 250's or nothing. Not 150. Might as well be halogen....

You forget the Q-Scan is a Discharge bulb not a Halogen. They are the same # of lumens as a halgen bulb if not more.

Thats my point. I know they are discharge. But to my eyes, a 150 discharge is about the same as a halogen 250.

halogens are cheaper units and bulbs are cheaper too....

I'm just saying for the little amount more, getting a 250 discharge is worth it. You can find trackscan and q 250s on ebay often for under 500.00

I only got about 300 for each of my trackscan 250's

You can get the American DJ DJScan250 from Audiolines for $99.99, yes less than 100 bucks and the new DJScans from anywhere for $199.99.

I'd consider the SCX-500s but i'm not sure if they meet your criteria. I hear theyre excellent products from several people who own them.

The DJScan 250's do not have rotating gobos. Good light for $100 though.

The SCX-500 are only 150 watts.

New models are coming out and these fixtures are discontinued.

At least:

American Dj Fantasy Scan 250
Chauvet Q-SCAN 150
American DJ DJ Scan 250

Also, smoke and fog machines are being outlawed by just about every venue I go to. Without smoke or fog, the scanners don't do a very good job. Sales of these types of fixtures is waning. And it is really a shame, especially since American DJ incorporated a green laser in one of their 2007 model scanners and other manufactures have gone gobo crazy with thier latest entries. But without smoke, mirror type fixtures no longer cut it. You really need a discharge type fixture, or move to LED lighting.
So, you can now purchase scanner type fixtures at bargain prices!

I have been slowly moving toward the LED arena. Last year adding the VUE III and this year adding 2 ADJ Mega Pixel LED Bars.

Although the scanners looked absolutely terrific with smoke, the new LED technology adds an even better dimension to exciting lighting effects!

Here's a short video from last Saturday's gig. It was a smokeless venue.
I used my 4 ADJ Scan 250's along with the VUE and the MEGA PIXEL bars.
It worked out very well.
