I was on the list for Black Monday it turns out. I'm officially terminated on June 30, but was pretty much told I'm doing nothing till then. Severance picks up then though and I'm good through the rest of the year.

Hey patricklewis!! I'm near you. Need an assistant? lol

Hampton - I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully the severance should give you time to find something new, or a little cushion if you should decide to use this as a reason to go full-time (that's the kind of kick in the a$$ that might finally motivate me...)

Good luck and keep your chin up...

Hampton,

So sorry, I know that has to be upsetting for your family and you.

You know, the Lord moves in strange ways and you know what you've been wanting to do...........

Why don't you give me a call sometime and also, don't forget all the great educational opportunities that I've shoved your way recently, some still coming up, even more on the horizon.

Maybe God's tapping you on the shoulder, brother! Just a thought...

Rick

nah Joe. I retired from the National Guard back in 02. I was ..ahem... a part time soldier.

I'm going to look for work...sort of....in a while... maybe soon...

Funny thing is, if I was told correctly, they are going to pay me until June 30 and I don't have to work, then the severance package kicks in. If not, you bet I would be sweating big time.

Now where is that bubble thread......

Hampton,

Draw up your plan tonight. Try not to delay. What ever it is, just get it on paper and start tomorrow. Even if it's to take a couple of days off (part of the plan) get it in writing and get started. Utilize the cushion you have NOW and until the rest of the year.

You got let go. Now GO get what you want.

Best,

Dave

I "was" a service tech for a concrete chemical company. If I was told correctly, I'm still on the payroll until June 30, but won't be working. After that date, the severance package kicks in. So I do have a cushion. Fortunately.

No... but I have heard the the Hoover dam still has places where the concrete hasn't even set yet and is still wet... History Channel who knew?

It might sound cliche but everything happens for a reason. It's much better being self unemployed anyway :sqwink:

I totally agree with almost everything that was said by everyone here.

One door closes another opens, I have always believed that some things happen for a reason, but more importantly is what you do with the paths that you are now considering taking that are in front of you. Choose wisely grasshopper.
Good luck!

I too am saddened to hear, Sarge. But these folks are right. A better opportunity is waiting.

I'll offer up a recent example: When I was working at Sunroc, I was at $14.00 per. If they hadn't gone outta business I'd have probably never landed my current position at Playtex that pays quite a bit more. Sometimes the loss of a job turns out to be a good thing. :)

Man, I've been laid off and had plants close more times than I care to recall. On occasion I've had to bide my time in a sweatshop or two 'til a "real" job appeared in the listings. But I never stopped looking. My thing is the State Labor Department website. I love it ~ can shop for work from the comfort of home. You can apply online and email and fax resumes, too. And it's all free.

Once you're out of the shop you can draw unemployment. That's money on the floor. Pick it up.

Now is a good time to review and update your resume. Start mailing and faxing it to prospective employers. Keep a record of what companies you've contacted ~ you'll need the documentation to continue drawing unemployment anyhow.

In my experience, there's typically a 30-day span between losing a job and starting a new one. So start sending those resumes now. One can accumulate a lot of expenses in 30 days and those unemployment checks can be a godsend. You want to get back to work as soon as you can. :)

Hope it helps.

Sarge, if I was still working with bands, I would bring you on in a heartbeat.

But I am swimming in a sea of hotel talk now, and am just trying to keep my head above water until I get a grip on everything. Would love to bring you on here, but right now is not a good time.

Sorry bud.
