jokerswild 05-05-2008, 11:05 PM Ok so I'm at GC today buying a new wireless mic... and I stumble into the lighting room...
They have the Elan setup... but with no sound going it's hard to determine what it can or can't do... when I asked the salesman they seem to like the ADJ Raptor a bit better.... both priced the same so I know it wasn't because they wanted to sell me something more expensive... what do you guys think?
Raptor v. Elan?
Elan.. but for the record they are all the same company
American DJ
American Audio
Chauvet
Arriba
Elation
etc

I wonder why they liked the Raptor so much more...? what's the difference... I couldn't see the Raptor in action... well neither the Elan mostly cause there was no sound going...
Sometimes a salesman makes more commission on some items. I had a friend that worked a Circuit City, and every week they were told which items would give them the most commission. Also the info price label had a code that she explained to me. There were 2 digits that told how much commission they made for selling the product. After I new this I would go in and play. I would look at all the similar item, like cd players. I would figure out which paid the most commission, then I would ask for help and play dumb, every time the salesman would push the higher commission item, as the best product for the money. Next week if it changed they would say the other cd player was better.
DJ Cam 05-06-2008, 01:04 AM Raptor Huh???
Guitar Center Doesn't sell Martin Lighting anymore.
The Elan is DMX if I remeber correctly and LED.
I use Raptors. They have very nice coverage and work will for slow and fast songs.
Papa Deuce 05-06-2008, 04:17 AM What MBM said.... LOL, and let me tell you another retail trick... Let's say the Sony paid more than the Panasonic for a given item.... A TV... Or let's say that I really thought that the Sony was a better TV, and i wanted the customer to buy the Sony...
What we would do is grab any available salesperson near us and say, "which do you like more, the Panasonic or the Sony?".... The one you mentioned 2nd was the one the other guy would say.
We also put little colored dots next to items. Different colors meant different commissions. If a customer asked what the dots meant, we were supposed to say that it pertained to the number of that item in stock in the warehouse.
One time an Indian couple came in to look at appliances, and the salesman said, let me show you our "red dot" specials..... :sqerr::sqwink:
groovielou 05-06-2008, 04:40 AM Chauvet is NOT a part of the American DJ Group of companies.

Sorry my bad.... I was trying to compare the Elan to the ADJ Reflex a dual moonflower effect.
NLFXSam 05-06-2008, 06:08 PM Well first of all Chauvet and ADJ are not the same company. However they may get similar items from the same factories in China. If I wanted to, and had the $$, I'm sure I could buy a boat load of fixtures and have them paint "NLFX" across the side. This is why every lighting company has a lot of similar lights. For example Chauvet Mushroom, ADJ Vertigo, MBT Enticer, Eliminator E-109 Mushroom all are basically the same, just a snazzy paint job or a slightly different housing.
To compare the ADJ Reflex to the Chauvet Elan in not a similar comparison. Both lights are unique. The Relex has 2 scanning heads that project moonflower effects. Where the Elan is a larger version of a mushroom effect. Not to mention that the Elan is DMX. If I were to compare the Reflex to a Chauvet light it would be the J-Five, because of the dual moon flower. When comparing those two I would go with the J-Five because it doesn't have any mirrors that will break in transit. Also because the J-Five looks like Johnny 5 from short circuit....I love the 80's..lol
However back to the main comparision.... I would go with the Elan. No mirrors that will break, full room coverage and it's DMX.
NLFX Pro 05-06-2008, 10:33 PM ... and to add to that... I would stop buying wireless mics at GC! We need to support Sam's Green Egg & Ham habit!
